Clifton Historic District is a national historic district located at Clifton, Fairfax County, Virginia. It encompasses 62 contributing buildings, 1 contributing site, and 1 contributing object in the town of Clifton. They include 53 residences, 3 churches, 4 commercial buildings, and 2 local government buildings mostly built between 1880 and 1910. Notable buildings include the Clifton Presbyterian Church (1871), Clifton Baptist Church (1912), Clifton Hotel (1869), the Mayhugh Tavern (c. 1870), the Ford House (c. 1880), the Cross House (c. 1886), Buckley Brothers Store (c. 1900), the M. M. Payne House (1903), and "Red Gables" (1908).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.

Clifton is an incorporated town located in southwestern Fairfax County, Virginia, United States, with a population of 282 at the time of the 2010 census, up from 185 at the 2000 census. Incorporated by the General Assembly on March 9, 1902, Clifton is one of only three towns in the county, the other two being the much more populous Vienna and Herndon. Clifton's history begins pre-colonially, when the area was used as hunting grounds by the local Dogue Native American tribe. A railroad siding was constructed here during the Civil War, and the area became titled as Devereux Station. A nearby neighborhood on the outskirts of the Clifton ZIP code has this name. Development of a village at the siding began in 1868 when a railroad depot, named "Clifton Station", was constructed. Unlike most areas in Northern Virginia, the land around Clifton is far less built up than nearby areas, especially to its east and southwest. This was out of the worry that overdevelopment near Bull Run and the Occoquan River would be environmentally damaging to the Occoquan Reservoir. Consequently, as development edged near the area in the late 1970s and early 1980s, an ordinance was enacted stating that only one building could be placed on 5-acre (2.0 ha) parcels that have not already been divided. Today, the southern and eastern portions of the area are heavily forested, with single-family homes, while the northern area has become equestrian areas.

Clifton station is a limited-use Virginia Railway Express train station in Clifton, Virginia. The location serves as a station stop during special seasonal events in the town, most notably the town's annual Clifton Day. It is served by special Manassas Line trains running between Manassas station and Rolling Road station. A temporary platform is erected for when the station is in use.

Chapel Road Park is a 25 acres (10 ha) park one mile east of Clifton in Fairfax County, Virginia.

Hemlock Overlook Regional Park is a multi-use park near Clifton, Virginia, one of several parks lining the Bull Run. The 400-acre park offers dense forests, hilly woodlands, and floodplain scenery. Hemlock Overlook is named after the grove of hemlock trees above the banks in the northern section of the park. At the northern edge of the park is the site of the Union Mills and the bridge crossing for the Orange and Alexandria Railroad over the Bull Run; both of these sites have high significance in the Battles of Bull Run. The site of a dam that supported the first hydroelectric power generation to Fairfax County is also on the Hemlock Overlook site. A permanent orienteering course, built with the support of the Quantico Orienteering Club, sits in the southern end of the park, south of Yates Ford Road. The Bull Run-Occoquan Trail (blue trail) is maintained by the PATC. From 1984 to 2009, Hemlock Overlook operated as a university outdoor education center, through a partnership between George Mason University and the Park Authority. In 2009, the Park Authority engaged a partner, Adventure Links, to operate the facility. In 2021, the Park Authority put out a Request for Proposal for new operating partners. A new operator, Horizons at Hemlock Overlook, part of Endless Horizons, has been chosen to partner with the Park Authority.

The Bunny Man is an urban legend that originated from two incidents in Fairfax County, Virginia, in 1970, but has been spread throughout the Washington, D.C., and Maryland areas. The legend has many variations; most involve a man wearing a rabbit costume who attacks people with an axe or hatchet. Most of the stories occur around Colchester Overpass, a Southern Railway overpass spanning Colchester Road near Clifton, Virginia, sometimes referred to as "Bunny Man Bridge".Versions of the legend vary in the Bunny Man's name, motives, weapons, victims, description of the bunny costume or lack thereof, and sometimes even his possible death. In some accounts, victims' bodies are mutilated, and in some variations, the Bunny Man's ghost or aging spectre is said to come out of his place of death each year on Halloween to commemorate his passing.

The Orange and Alexandria Railroad Bridge Piers are the historical remains of a bridge that carried the Orange and Alexandria Railroad across Bull Run between Fairfax and Prince William Counties, Virginia. The railroad, and this bridge location in particular, were of strategic interest to both Union and Confederate forces during the American Civil War. The bridge was rebuilt at least seven times during the war years. The piers are located just south of a modern railroad bridge.The piers were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

Colchester Hunt is an unincorporated community in Fairfax County, Virginia, United States. Colchester Hunt is located close to the town of Clifton and the independent city of Fairfax.

Bull Run Marina Regional Park is a park in Clifton, Virginia, along Bull Run. The park has 5,000 acres (20 km2) of preserved land. The park has a marina, and has parts of the Bull Run-Occoquan Trail in it. The park hosts many events in crew and is a practice area for the Lake Braddock Secondary School crew team.

Hope Park was an 18th and 19th-century plantation in Fairfax County in the U.S. state of Virginia, where Dr. David Stuart (1753–1814), an old friend of and correspondent with George Washington lived with his wife, (Washington's former stepdaughter-in-law) Eleanor Calvert Custis (1758–1811), and family. It was approximately 5 miles (8.0 km) southwest of Fairfax Court House (now known as the independent city of Fairfax).

"A" Fort and Battery Hill Redoubt-Camp Early, also known as Measles Fort, is a historic American Civil War military facility and redoubt located in Fairfax County, Virginia south of Centreville and along Bull Run. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.
