County House, Prešov

The Co-Cathedral of Saint Nicholas in Prešov is one of the oldest and most important churches in Slovakia. The external dimensions of the cathedral are 54.7m in length, 34.45m in width. The indoor nave is 16 m tall and tower reaches a height of 71 meters. The temple's design takes inspiration from the Late Gothic hall churches with three naves.

Prešov District (okres Prešov) is a district in the Prešov Region of eastern Slovakia. Until 1918, the district was part of the county of Kingdom of Hungary of Sáros.

Šariš is the traditional name of a region situated in northeastern Slovakia. It encompasses the territory of the former (comitatus) Sáros county.

The University of Prešov (Slovak: Prešovská univerzita v Prešove) is the only public university in the Prešov self-governing region of Slovakia. It focuses on the areas of social, natural, and theological sciences, sport, arts, management, and health care. It was established by law in December 1996 by splitting the University of Pavol Jozef Šafárik in Košice into the University of Pavol Jozef Šafárik in Košice and Prešov University in Prešov. It was officially established on 1 January 1997. The outcomes of its active education and research programmes stretch significantly beyond the borders of Eastern Slovakia. Among its organizational units are three centres of excellence: Centre of Excellence in Lingual-Cultural Translation and Interpretation Centre of Excellence in Socio-Historical and Cultural-Historical Research Centre of Excellence in Animal and Human EcologyThrough bilateral agreements, the university cooperates with 75 higher education institutions from more than 20 countries, while Presov students and teachers can spend time at one of more than 300 universities across Europe under the framework of the Erasmus programme. In addition, staff members present the results of their studies in articles that are published at home and abroad, as well as at various scientific events in countries such as Russia, South Africa, Singapore, Switzerland and the UK.

Prešov (Slovak pronunciation: [ˈpreʂɔw] (listen), Hungarian: Eperjes, German: Eperies, Rusyn and Ukrainian: Пряшів) is a city in Eastern Slovakia. It is the seat of administrative Prešov Region (Slovak: Prešovský kraj) and Šariš, as well as the historic Sáros County of the Kingdom of Hungary. With a population of approximately 84,000 for the city, and in total about 110,000 with the metropolitan area, it is the third-largest city in Slovakia. It belongs to the Košice-Prešov agglomeration and is the natural cultural, economic, transport and administrative center of the Šariš region. It lends its name to the Eperjes-Tokaj Hill-Chain which was considered as the geographic entity on the first map of Hungary from 1528. There are many tourist attractions in Prešov such as castles (e.g. Šariš Castle), pools and the old town.

The Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist (Slovak: Katedrála svätého Jána Krstiteľa) in Prešov is a Greek Catholic cathedral, the seat of Archbishop of Prešov and the metropolitan church of Slovak Greek Catholic Province. Former eparchy bishops and martyrs Pavol Gojdič and Vasiľ Hopko are buried here. In temple also is the copy of Shroud of Turin.

The Slovak Greek Catholic Church or Byzantine Catholic Church in Slovakia, is a sui iuris (autonomous) Eastern Catholic church based in Slovakia. As a particular church of the Catholic Church, it is in full communion with the Holy See. The church is organised as a single ecclesiastical province with one metropolitan see. Its liturgical rite is the Byzantine Rite. In 2008 in Slovakia alone, the Greek Catholic Church in Slovakia had some 350,000 faithful, 374 priests and 254 parishes. In 2017, the Catholic Church counted 207,320 Greek Catholics in Slovakia worldwide, representing roughly one percent of all Eastern Catholics.

The Archeparchy of Prešov (Latin: Archidioecesis Presoviensis) is an archeparchy (equivalent to an archdiocese in the Latin Church) of the Slovak Greek Catholic Church which is an Eastern Catholic particular church of the Catholic Church that is in full communion with the Holy See. The archeparchy is the metropolitan see of the Slovak Greek Catholic ecclesiastical province which covers the whole of Slovakia. The archeparch (equivalent to an archbishop in the Latin Church) is also, ex officio, the metropolitan bishop of the metropolis. The geographical remit of the archeparchy itself is confined to the Prešov Region of Slovakia. The see is currently sede vacante. The cathedral church of the archeparcy is the cathedral of St. John the Baptist which is situated in Prešov. As an Eastern Catholic church, it uses the Byzantine Rite in the Slovak and Church Slavonic languages.

The Alexander Dukhnovych Theater (Rusyn: Tеатр Александра Духновіча, Teatr Aleksandra Duxnoviča, although the sign in the adjacent photo reads Tеатр Александра Духновича; Slovak: Divadlo Alexandra Duchnoviča), located in Prešov, is the only Slovak theatre providing plays in the Rusyn language.

Sáros (-Hungarian, Slovak: Šariš, Latin: comitatus Sarossiensis, German: Scharosch) was an administrative county (comitatus) of the Kingdom of Hungary. Its territory is now in northeastern Slovakia. Today, Šariš is only an informal designation of the corresponding territory.

Tatran Stadium (Štadión Tatran Prešov in Slovak) is a multi-purpose stadium in Prešov, Slovakia. It is not currently used for any of football matches, because its expected reconstruction . The stadium new capacity should be 6,500 spectators (all seated) after reconstruction. The stadium old capacity was 5,410 spectators (all seated).

Tatran Handball Arena, is an indoor sporting arena located in Prešov, Slovakia. The seating capacity of the arena is for 3,870 people. It is currently home to HT Tatran Prešov. The hall is mainly used for handball, although it is suitable for numerous other sporting competitions and various concerts, exhibitions, fairs, conventions, and congresses.
