USS Requin (SS/SSR/AGSS/IXSS-481) , a Tench-class submarine, was the only ship of the United States Navy to be named after the requin, French for shark. Since 1990 it has been a museum ship at The Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The Southern Steel Valley is the area of post-industrial and industrial concentration along the upper Ohio River valley as well as the Monongahela River all the way to the West Virginia border. It has also included most of the Allegheny River, Beaver River and Youghiogheny River valleys. Most of the Pittsburgh metro area is considered part of "Steel Valley", as well as most of the Weirton-Steubenville-Wheeling Ohio/West Virginia, Morgantown/Fairmont West Virginia and East Liverpool/Youngstown/Mercer/New Castle Ohio and Pennsylvania metro areas. To locals in these regions the "Steel Valley" refers to towns and cities along the river shore, the school district and valley areas and not always the suburbs and cities at higher elevations, though the term has been used for the entire region. The Youngstown area of Ohio (as well as the Wheeling/Steubenville/Weirton area) though geographically and demographically connected to the "Steel Valley" retain many distinctions from the Steel Valley centered in Pittsburgh.

Allegheny is a station on the Pittsburgh Regional Transit's Pittsburgh Light Rail network, located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The stop serves the North Shore neighborhood and other adjacent neighborhoods. Among the locations within walking distance are: Acrisure Stadium, the Pittsburgh Steelers football stadium; Rivers Casino; the Stage AE amphitheater; Community College of Allegheny County's Allegheny Campus; and Carnegie Science Center. This station currently acts as the northern terminus of the Pittsburgh Light Rail system, and it is most distant station of the North Shore Connector project. It also marks the beginning of the Light Rail system's six-station "Free Fare Zone" within which riders do not need to pay to ride.Bus bays are located under the elevated station.

Acrisure Stadium is a football stadium located in the North Shore neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States. It primarily serves as the home of the Pittsburgh Steelers of the National Football League (NFL) and the Pittsburgh Panthers of the NCAA Football in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). The stadium opened in 2001, after the controlled implosion of the teams' previous home, Three Rivers Stadium, and was originally named Heinz Field because the once locally based H. J. Heinz Company purchased the naming rights in 2001. Heinz declined to sign a new deal after its naming rights expired in February 2022. Funded in conjunction with PNC Park and the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, the $281 million (equivalent to $430.03 million in 2021) stadium stands along the Ohio River, on the North Side of Pittsburgh in the North Shore neighborhood. The stadium was designed with the city of Pittsburgh's history of steel production in mind, which led to the inclusion of 12,000 tons of steel into construction. Ground for the stadium was broken in June 1999, and the first football game was hosted in September 2001. The stadium's natural-grass surface has been criticized throughout its history, but Steelers owners have kept the grass after lobbying from players and coaches. The 68,400-seat stadium has sold out for every Steelers home game, a streak that dates to 1972. A collection of Steelers and Panthers memorabilia is in the Great Hall. The stadium has hosted two outdoor hockey games: the 2011 NHL Winter Classic between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals, and the 2017 NHL Stadium Series game between the Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers. The venue has also hosted numerous concerts; on May 18, 2019, a Garth Brooks performance was attended by 75,000 people, the highest-ticketed show in Pittsburgh history.

The Pittsburgh gasometer explosion, or Equitable Gas explosion, was an accident that took place in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on the morning of November 14, 1927. A huge cylindrical gasometer, the largest in the world at that time at 5 million cubic feet (140,000 m3), developed a leak, and repairmen were sent to fix it. The exact cause of the explosion is not known, but some of those repairing the leak were using acetylene torches. There was a loud explosion, and three gasometers at the site exploded. A "dense mass of dust and smoke" rose from the ruins before igniting into a ball of fire reported as 100 feet in diameter, which rose further before burning out at a height of 1000 feet. Most buildings within a radius of half a mile were damaged, with windows being broken a mile away, causing upwards of $4 million worth of damage. It was reported that the explosion "caused lofty downtown skyscrapers to tremble and sway as if hit by an earthquake". 28 people were killed and hundreds were injured.

The Manchester, Point and Wabash bridge piers are former bridge piers from three different bridges at different locations in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Manchester Bridge opened in 1915, and connected the North Shore to The Point of Pittsburgh. The bridge was demolished in 1970, and only the northern pier was left standing for a proposed observation deck that was never built. In 2009, the pier was made into an arched walkway leading up to a statue of Fred Rogers. Former bridge piers such as this one from the Manchester Bridge, as well as former piers from the Point Bridge (1927) and the Wabash Bridge (1903), were added to the List of Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation Historic Landmarks in 1977.

Chalfant Hall of the Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC), located at 915 Ridge Avenue in the Allegheny West neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was built circa 1900. It was the former house of Henry Chalfant (1867–1928), who graduated from Harvard in 1899 and succeeded his father in the firm of Spang, Chalfant & Co. The house was added to the List of Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation Historic Landmarks in 1981. CCAC acquired the property the same year.In 2019, CCAC announced that Chalfant Hall would be renovated to become the college's new Center for Teaching and Learning.

The Allegheny River ( AL-ə-GAE-nee) is a 325 mi (523 km) long headwater stream of the Ohio River in western Pennsylvania and New York. The Allegheny River runs from its headwaters just below the middle of Pennsylvania's northern border northwesterly into New York then in a zigzag southwesterly across the border and through Western Pennsylvania to join the Monongahela River at the Forks of the Ohio on the "Point" of Point State Park in Downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Allegheny River is, by volume, the main headstream of both the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers. Historically, the Allegheny was considered to be the upper Ohio River by both Native Americans and European settlers. The shallow river has been made navigable upstream from Pittsburgh to East Brady by a series of locks and dams constructed in the early 20th century. A 24-mile long portion of the upper river in Warren and McKean counties of Pennsylvania and Cattaraugus County in New York is the Allegheny Reservoir, created by the erection of the Kinzua Dam in 1965 for flood control. The name of the river comes from one of a number of Delaware/Unami phrases which are homophones of the English name, with varying translations.

The Monongahela River ( mə-NONG-gə-HEE-lə, -⁠HAY-)—often referred to locally as the Mon ()—is a 130-mile-long (210 km) river on the Allegheny Plateau in north-central West Virginia and Southwestern Pennsylvania. The river flows from the confluence of its west and east forks in north-central West Virginia northeasterly into southwestern Pennsylvania, then northerly to Pittsburgh and its confluence with the Allegheny River to form the Ohio River. The river's entire length is navigable via a series of locks and dams.

The Byers-Lyons House (now Byers Hall of the Community College of Allegheny County's Allegheny Campus) in the Allegheny West neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is a building from 1898. It was added to the List of City of Pittsburgh historic designations on March 15, 1974, the National Register of Historic Places on November 19, 1974, and the List of Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation Historic Landmarks in 1989.

The Rivers Casino (originally going to be named the Majestic Star Casino) is a casino in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It is owned by Holdings Acquisition Co. L.P., a joint venture of Walton Street Capital LLC and High Pitt Gaming LP. Located in Pittsburgh's Chateau neighborhood along the Ohio River, adjacent to the Carnegie Science Center and nearby Heinz Field and PNC Park, it had its groundbreaking in December 2007 and opened on August 9, 2009. The casino was originally to be built by Don H. Barden, but financial troubles forced him to sell 75% of his interest in the casino to Holdings Acquisition Co on July 16, 2008. The casino has 3,000 slot machines.

The Law Enforcement Officers Memorial of Allegheny County is a monument to Allegheny County, Pennsylvania's law enforcement community in honor of fallen officers of both the Pittsburgh Police and suburban departments. The original was dedicated in September 1996 near the Carnegie Science Center but was moved with the construction of Heinz Field and rededicated in May 2003.
