Trevelyan College Boat Club (TCBC) is the boat club of Trevelyan College, at Durham University in England. An active north eastern rowing club, it competes on a national level, for example at Henley Royal Regatta and the Head of the River Race. The club runs under the leadership of a structured executive committee and benefits from an annual intake of around thirty novice rowers each year. The club was founded officially in 1976, although there was a history of rowing at the college earlier, with the first boat bought in 1966. It is recorded that an all fresher crew won the Ladies Invitation Race at the university Epiphany Term regatta in 1967.The alumni club for ex-TCBC members is Drowning Horse Boat Club, a humorous play on Trevelyan College's Coat of Arms.

The club has over 40 members and uses Clive’s Boat House on the banks of the River Wear. The club is a participant at Durham Regatta, races across the north east, and Durham College Rowing events. Durham Women Football Club is a women's football club based in Durham, North East England. The team has competed in the FA Women's Championship, the second tier of Women's football in England, since 2014 having been awarded a licence in its inaugural season. They play their home games at Maiden Castle, part of Durham University.

South College Boat Club (SCBC) is the rowing club of South College at Durham University on the River Wear in England. SCBC is a registered Boat Club through British Rowing and is a member organisation of Durham College Rowing. In Durham, the club is a regular participant at Durham Regatta, races across the north east and Durham College Rowing events; including winning the Novice Cup (Women's) against UCBC in 2023. SCBC was founded in 2020 and is based at the DUBC boathouse at Maiden Castle, and has a fleet of three 4x+ and 1x.

Old Durham is a hamlet in County Durham, in England. It is situated approximately 1 mile east of central Durham and south of Gilesgate. The most northerly remains of a Romanised farmstead in the Roman Empire were excavated at Old Durham during 1940s.Old Durham's 17th-century gardens became a popular attraction, which led to the opening of the Pineapple Inn to provide refreshments for local visitors. The gardens used to belong to a 17th-century mansion belonging to the Heath family which was demolished in the 18th century.In 1642 the marriage of John Tempest of the Isle (near Bradbury, County Durham) to Elizabeth Heath daughter and sole heiress of John Heath (1604–1664) brought the property to the Tempest family. Their son William Tempest, Member of Parliament for the City of Durham in 1678, 1680 and 1689 also resided here. The Tempests deserted Old Durham in favour of Sherburn and Wynyard in 1742 and were ancestors of the Vane-Tempest-Stewarts, Earls Vane and Marquesses of Londonderry Old Durham was the site of a colliery with the Marquis of Londonderry's Lord Ernest pit opening in 1849. The remains of a railway embankment cut across the area, which featured two bridges, leading to the now-demolished Elvet Station at the end of the Durham Sunderland Line.

Maiden Castle sports centre, also known as the Graham Sports Centre and the Durham University Sport and Wellbeing Park, is the main sports complex at Durham University and the home for many of the university's teams. It also stages professional football as the home of Durham W.F.C. since 2020 and is used as an international venue, including hosting one of the four 2023 Women's EuroHockey Championship Qualifiers tournaments in summer 2022 and the 1995 IAAF World Cross Country Championships. It has been used as a training ground by Hartlepool United since 2021, having previously been used by Newcastle United. The sports centre is situated on the southeast side of Durham on the floodplain of the River Wear, just south of the Maiden Castle iron age fort from which it takes its name. The main sports complex, including the centre buildings and artificial pitches, are located on the west bank of the river, with vehicular access from the A177 Stockton Road, with additional playing fields on the east bank linked to the main complex via a footbridge. Paths along the river link Maiden Castle to the university's other sports fields at Hollow Drift (150 m north) and The Racecourse.

Green Lane is a cricket ground in Durham, County Durham. The first recorded match on the ground was in 1866, when Durham City played the Northumberland Club. Durham first played at the ground in the 1899 Minor Counties Championship against Norfolk. Durham next used the ground in the 1904 Minor Counties Championship against Northamptonshire. The ground would next be used for Minor Counties cricket in 1975, when Durham returned to play at the ground, before playing their final Minor Counties Championship match there in 1984 against Bedfordshire. In 1988, Durham returned to the ground to play an MCCA Knockout Trophy match against Northumberland. The following season Durham played their final match on the ground in the MCCA Knockout Trophy against Cumberland.The ground has also held a single List-A match in the 1979 Gillette Cup, which saw Durham play Berkshire. Following Durham's elevation to first-class cricket, the Durham Second XI have played a number of matches at the ground.
