Villeurbanne (French pronunciation: [vilœʁban] (listen); Arpitan: Velorbana) is a commune in the Metropolis of Lyon in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region in eastern France. It is situated northeast of Lyon, with which it forms the heart of the second-largest metropolitan area in France after that of Paris. Villeurbanne is the second-largest commune in the metropolitan area of Lyon and the 20th most populated in France. In 2013, Villeurbanne was elected the city with the best administration of France, which attracts more and more people.

Located within the Cité lyonnaise de l’environnement et de l’analyse, the Institute of Analytical Sciences (UMR 5280) is a French research, training and expertise center specializing in analytical chemistry. It is a Joint Research Unit (French: Unité mixte de recherche or UMR) affiliated with the National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), Claude Bernard University Lyon 1, and École normale supérieure de Lyon.

Keren Or Synagogue is a Reform Jewish Synagogue which serves as the synagogue for the Liberal Jewish Community of Lyon. It is located at 15 Rue Jules Vallès in Villeurbanne.

Uthman Mosque (also known as 'Othman' Mosque or 'Mosquée de Othmane') is a mosque for Muslims of all traditions and ethnic groups inaugurated on 1 April 2006 in Villeurbanne, France, near Lyon. It is a three-storey building paid for by contributions from French Muslims, covering 1200 square metres and including a large library and an Arabic school catering for 250 students.

The Institut National des Sciences Appliquées de Lyon or INSA Lyon is a French grande école and engineering school. The university is located on the La Doua – LyonTech campus, in a cluster of science and technological universities and Grandes Écoles. La Doua is located in Villeurbanne, a suburb of Lyon. The school was founded in 1957 to train highly qualified engineers, support continuing education, and conduct research. The five-year curriculum aims at training engineers who possess human qualities and are well versed in the primary areas of science and engineering. Students may pursue a PhD upon completion of the 5-year curriculum. Graduates from INSA Lyon are called Insaliens.

The school is a member of the Claude Bernard University Lyon 1.

École Émile-Cohl is a French art school. It is a private higher education institution recognized by the state and specialized in teaching drawing and illustration, animation film, video games, multimedia computer graphics, comics and press drawing.

Rhônexpress is an express tram-train service which links central Lyon, France, with its airport, Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport, and the TGV train station located there. In 2010, it was one of the most expensive airport-to-city lines in Europe per kilometer.The route is 23 kilometres (14 mi) long, and served by six tram-train sets, built by Swiss manufacturer Stadler Rail. The route from the airport to the city's business center at Part-Dieu Villette (Lyon-Part-Dieu railway station) by way of Vaulx-en-Velin – La Soie (for transfer to Metro Line A) and Meyzieu takes roughly half an hour. Services run every 15–30 minutes. The project included building 8.5 kilometres (5.3 mi) of new tracks, while the remainder of the route runs along the existing T3 tram line, on which passing tracks were built in some stations to allow express service. The service is independently run and is not a part of the TCL system, although it appears on TCL maps. The Conseil général of the Rhône franchised the operation of this line for 30 years to Rhônexpress, a consortium including Vinci SA (28.2%), Veolia Transport (28.2%), Vossloh Infrastructure Service (4.2%), Cegelec Centre Est (2.8%) and the Caisse des dépôts et consignations. It opened on 9 August 2010.

Claude Bernard University Lyon 1 (French: Université Claude-Bernard Lyon 1, UCBL) is one of the three public universities of Lyon, France. It is named after the French physiologist Claude Bernard and specialises in science and technology, medicine, and sports science. It was established in 1971 by the merger of the 'faculté des sciences de Lyon' with the 'faculté de médecine'. The main administrative, teaching and research facilities are located in Villeurbanne, with other campuses located in Gerland, Rockefeller, and Laennec in the 8th arrondissement of Lyon. Attached to the university are the Hospices Civils de Lyon, including the 'Centre Hospitalier Lyon-Sud', which is the largest teaching hospital in the Rhône-Alpes region and the second-largest in France. The university has been independent since January 2009. In 2020 it managed an annual budget of over €420 million and had 2857 faculty.

The Lyon trolleybus system (French: Réseau de trolleybus de Lyon) is part of the public transport network of the city and commune of Lyon, France. Opened in 1935, it combines with the Lyon Metro, the Lyon tramway network and Lyon's urban motorbus network to form an integrated system. Lyon was one of the first cities in France to experience trolleybuses. It is the capitale du trolleybus français ("capital of the French trolleybus"). In 1961, the Lyon trolleybus system had the largest number of trolleybuses ever to operate simultaneously in France (370 vehicles). In the 21st century, it has been a leader in the development of new trolley buses. The system is owned by SYTRAL, and, like most of the rest of the four managed transportation systems, is operated by Keolis Lyon on behalf of Transports en commun lyonnais (TCL). Since 2006, it has been expanded by the electrification of two major new lines (C1 and C2). As of 2015, the system consisted of nine lines.
