Yellowwood State Forest, originally Beanblossom Land Utilization Project, is a state forest located in Brown County, Indiana, near the more famous Brown County State Park. The forest features seventeen different areas within Brown County, comprising over 25,000 acres (10,000 ha) in total. The name of the forest is derived from the yellowwood (Cladrastis kentukea), a tree seldom found this far north in the United States; it flowers here only every three to five years. The yellowwood groves make up only 200 acres (80 ha) of the park, although one tree has been planted by the forest office.The forest preserve was established during the Great Depression, when work crews from the Civilian Conservation Corps and the Works Progress Administration built many of the structures still in use today. In 1940 the United States government leased the forest land to the state of Indiana, with Indiana being deeded the land in 1956. In 1994 and 1995 sixty-six additional acres (27 ha) of land in total were given to the forest.Recreation in the park consists of camping, hunting, fishing, and hiking. The Tecumseh Trail goes through the forest on its way to the state forest office for Morgan–Monroe State Forest; the trail was originally supposed to become a national trail, reaching from Canada to Florida. A twenty-mile-long (32 km) hiking trail, the Ten O'Clock Line Hiking Trail, connects Yellowwood State Forest to Brown County State Park. The 133-acre (54 ha) lake, Yellowwood Lake, is thirty feet (9.1 m) deep and was created in 1939. Hunting typically involves deer, fox, grouse, raccoon, squirrel, turkey, and woodcock.Many of the unpaved roads within the forest are dusty and narrow, and those driving cars within the forest will often have to ford creeks.One major mystery surrounds the forest. Large sandstone boulders, estimated to weigh about 200 pounds (91 kg), have been found in the tops of three trees: one eighty-foot (24 m) tall chestnut oak and two American sycamores, one of which is 45 feet (14 m) tall. Speculation as to how the boulders got there ranges from college pranks, tornadoes, ancient hunters to UFOs.

WFIU (103.7 MHz) is a public radio station broadcasting from Indiana University Bloomington (IUB) in Bloomington, Indiana, United States. The station is a member station of NPR, Public Radio International and American Public Media. Together with IUB-owned television station WTIU (channel 30), it is known as Indiana Public Media. Studios are located in the Radio-Television Building on the IUB campus, and the transmitter is located at a site on South Sare Road in Bloomington. Seven translators broadcast WFIU and its second HD Radio subchannel, primarily in areas outside of the main transmitter's coverage area, including Terre Haute and Kokomo. WFIU was established in 1950 and initially served as a training ground for IUB students. It moved to its present frequency in 1951 and was one of NPR's charter members.

Monroe Lake is a reservoir located about 10 miles (16 km) southeast of Bloomington, Indiana, United States. The lake is the largest entirely situated in Indiana with 10,750 acres (43.5 km2) of water surface area spread over the counties of Monroe and Brown. Capacity varies from 292 gigalitres (237,000 acre⋅ft) to 428 gigalitres (347,000 acre⋅ft) depending on water level. It is also home to 13,202 acres (53.43 km2) of protected forest and three recreational areas (Fairfax, Hardin Ridge, and Paynetown). Indiana's only federally protected U.S. Wilderness Area, the 13,000-acre (53 km2) Charles C. Deam Wilderness Area, is located on the south shore. The lake's watershed is 441 square miles, 82% of which is forested or farmland. The pool elevation (above sea level) is about 538 feet (164 m) year-round. During colder winters, limited ice fishing is available on protected backwater portions of the reservoir. Ransburg Scout Reservation, a large Boy Scout camp comprising over 624 acres (253 ha), is situated along the eastern shore with a private dock system in Siscoe Bay (also known as Boy Scout Bay). The largest marina situated on the lake is the Fourwinds Resort and Marina with over 800 boats. The reservoir provides abundant fishing throughout the year, and recreational opportunities such as boating and water skiing attract visitors from throughout Indiana and the Midwest.
