Church of St. Maria (Hohenrechberg)

The Rechberg (el. 707.9 m.) is one of the three Imperial mountains near Göppingen in Baden-Württemberg in southern Germany. Together with the Hohenstaufen and Stuifen, it forms the so-called "Three Kaiser mountains" (Drei Kaiserberge). It lies south of Schwäbisch Gmünd on the northern end of the Schwäbische Alb. The other two Imperial mountains are the Stuifen to the southeast and the Hohenstaufen to the west. In 1979, the Rechberg was made a state recreation area.

Schwäbisch Gmünd station was opened in 1861 and is located northwest of the city centre of Schwäbisch Gmünd in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. It is on the Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt–Nördlingen railway and is a stop for InterCity trains.

Schwäbisch Gmünd (German pronunciation: [ˈʃvɛːbɪʃ ˈɡmʏnt], until 1934: Gmünd; Swabian: Gmẽẽd or Gmend) is a city in the eastern part of the German state of Baden-Württemberg. With a population of around 60,000, the city is the second largest in the Ostalb district and the whole East Württemberg region after Aalen. The city is a Große Kreisstadt since 1956, i.e. a chief city under district administration; it was the administrative capital of its own rural district until the local government reorganisation on 1 January 1973. There are some institutions of higher education in the city, most notably the Pädagogische Hochschule Schwäbisch Gmünd (University of Education Schwäbisch Gmünd) and the Landesgymnasium für Hochbegabte (State Highschool for gifted children). Schwäbisch Gmünd was a self-ruling free imperial city from the 13th century until its annexation to Württemberg in 1802.

The Landesgymnasium für Hochbegabte (German for State Grammar School for Highly Gifted Children) in Schwäbisch Gmünd is a co-educational public Boarding school for highly gifted students founded by the state of Baden-Württemberg. It is the first and sole school of this kind in this state. The Landesgymnasium für Hochbegabte is a publicly funded school in Germany for highly gifted students, similar to the Landesschule Pforta in Saxony-Anhalt, the Landesgymnasium St. Afra in Saxony and Internatsschule Schloss Hansenberg in Hesse. It is funded by the city of Schwäbisch Gmünd, the district Ostalbkreis and the state of Baden-Württemberg. Its stated aim is the promotion of the intellectual and social development of its students.

Pädagogische Hochschule Schwäbisch Gmünd (also known as PH Schwäbisch Gmünd, PHSG or University of Education Schwäbisch Gmünd) is a public research university located in Schwäbisch Gmünd, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Founded in 1825 as Pädagogisches Institut Schwäbisch Gmünd, it was transformed into a university in 1962 and now is a part of the Pädagogische Hochschulsystem Baden-Württemberg. It is one out of six such universities in the state of Baden-Württemberg (the other five being PH Karlsruhe, PH Ludwigsburg, PH Freiburg, PH Weingarten and PH Heidelberg). The university consists of two faculties and offers nine bachelor degree programmes as well as 11 master degree programmes. PH Schwäbisch Gmünd comprises two major campuses; one in Oberbettringen (main campus and administration) and one in downtown Schwäbisch Gmünd (campus for music students). The language of instruction is usually German, but there are also courses held in English and other modern foreign languages. PH Schwäbisch Gmünd holds several awards including the Helmuth-Lang-Price as well as the Irma-Schmücker-Price. The PH Schwäbisch Gmünd is also ranked as one of the top universities of Baden-Württemberg.
