The Raid on Cuxhaven (German: Weihnachtsangriff, Christmas Raid) was a British ship-based air-raid on the Imperial German Navy at Cuxhaven mounted on Christmas Day, 1914. Aircraft of the Royal Naval Air Service were carried to within striking distance by seaplane tenders of the Royal Navy, supported by both surface ships and submarines. The aircraft flew over the Cuxhaven area and dropped their bombs, causing damage to shore installations. It was described at the time as an "air reconnaissance of the Heligoland Bight, including Cuxhaven, Heligoland and Wilhelmshaven ... by naval seaplanes" during which "the opportunity was taken of attacking with bombs points of military importance" in northern Imperial Germany.

Cuxhaven (German: [kʊksˈhaːfn̩]; Low German: Cuxhoben) is an independent town and seat of the Cuxhaven district, in Lower Saxony, Germany. The town includes the northernmost point of Lower Saxony. It is situated on the shore of the North Sea at the mouth of the Elbe River. Cuxhaven has a footprint of 14 kilometres (9 miles) (east–west) by 7 km (4 mi) (north–south). Its town quarters Duhnen, Döse and Sahlenburg are especially popular vacation spots on the North Sea and home to about 52,000 residents. Cuxhaven is home to an important fisherman's wharf and ship registration point for Hamburg as well as the Kiel Canal until 2008. Tourism is also of great importance. The city and its precursor Ritzebüttel belonged to Hamburg from the 13th century until 1937. The island of Neuwerk, a Hamburg dependency, is located just northwest of Cuxhaven in the North Sea. The city's symbol, known as the Kugelbake, is a beacon once used as a lighthouse; the wooden landmark on the mouth of the Elbe marks the boundary between the river and the North Sea and also adorns the city's coat of arms.

Cuxhaven (German: Bahnhof Cuxhaven) is a railway station located in Cuxhaven, Germany. The station is located on the Lower Elbe Railway and Bremerhaven–Cuxhaven railway. The Cuxhaven-Bremerhaven service is operated by EVB. The Cuxhaven to Hamburg service, which was operated by Deutsche Bahn, became a Metronom service at the end of 2007. In December 2018, Start Unterelbe GmbH, a subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn, took over the service. Today the station building is owned by a cooperative.

Dr Mannah's (previously Happy Cashew and originally Happy Cheeze) is a manufacturer of vegan cheeses in Cuxhaven, Germany. Founded by Mudar Mannah in 2012, its products are based mainly on fermented cashew nuts.

Friedrich Clemens Gerke Tower is a 230 metre tall telecommunication tower of reinforced concrete in Cuxhaven in Germany. Friedrich Clemens Gerke Tower, which is named after Friedrich Clemens Gerke, was completed in 1991 and is not accessible for tourists. In spite of its size, it is only used as receiving point for cable TV, as a radio relay station and as a mobile phone transmitter, but not for broadcasting. The tower was designed by architects Gerhard Kreisel, Dipl. Ing. and Günter H. Müller Dipl. Ing., Kiel´.

Döse (Low German: Döös) the northernmost town in Lower Saxony, Germany at the point where the River Elbe flows into the North Sea. It is a borough of the city Cuxhaven and a popular seaside resort. Döse is located west of Grimmershörn in the borough of Cuxhaven and is one of the tourist centres of the region of Cuxland.

The Elbe Cycle Route (Elberadweg in German) is part of an international network of cycling routes all over Europe. It is integrated in the system of currently 37 river cycling routes in Germany and by far the most popular route for cyclists in this country. The Elbe Cycle Route starts in Špindlerův Mlýn in the Giant Mountains. It then runs for about 1220 km until it ends in Cuxhaven at the North Sea. Part of it falls together with the EV7 of the EuroVelo network. One variety of the route starts in Prague, following the river Vltava to the Elbe. After a fairly adventurous part of the Route on the Czech side of the river one reaches the famous Elbe Sandstone Mountains in Bohemian Switzerland and Saxon Switzerland and crosses the border to Germany. Shortly after this the Route leads through, Dresden and later through other cities like Meißen, Lutherstadt Wittenberg, Dessau, Magdeburg, Tangermünde, Lauenburg, Hamburg, Cuxhaven. There are many small villages with old churches and other interesting sites along the way. A lot of restaurants and pensions offer their service to the weary after a day of cycling. One of the other reasons however for its popularity is probably the fact that there are no significant level changes from Dresden on. It is practically downhill all the way from Dresden to Cuxhaven while the other direction mostly offers slight tailwinds. The Elbe Cycling Route is marked throughout Germany with a special sign.

Altenwalde is a village in the town of Cuxhaven in Lower Saxony.Altenwalde was first mentioned in 1282 as Wolde. On July 1, 1972, Altenwalde was incorporated into Cuxhaven.

Duhnen (toponym derived from dunes) is a seaside resort (Seebad ) along the North Sea, 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) from the centre of Cuxhaven city, Lower Saxony, Germany. Duhnen is located 351 kilometres (218 mi) northwest of Berlin. In 1935 Duhnen was incorporated into the city of Cuxhaven, more than 100 years after the city had been established. Visitors to Hamburg's nearby island of Neuwerk commonly travel through Duhnen. It was at one time a remote fishing and farming village, but today is one of the tourist centres of Cuxland.

Sahlenburg is a borough of the city Cuxhaven near the mouth of the river Elbe in Lower Saxony, Germany. The Sahlenburg beach is popular with tourists. In addition to swimming in the sea when the tide permits, there are also walks into the Duhner and the Werner forests. The earliest artifacts discovered are the flint tools of ice age hunters dated to c. 18,000 BCE. The first record of Sahlenburg is from 1325 and concerns Mr. von Lappe of noble lineage. Around 1400 the nobles moved into a stone castle in Cuxhaven. In 1871 Sahlenburg established its local council. In 1937, Sahlenburg became part of the Land of Hadeln and in 1970 became part of the city of Cuxhaven.

The Elbe (Czech: Labe) is one of the major rivers of Central Europe. It rises in the Giant Mountains of the northern Czech Republic before traversing much of Bohemia (western half of the Czech Republic), then Germany before flowing into the North Sea at Cuxhaven, 110 kilometres (68 miles) northwest of Hamburg. Its total length is 1,094 km (680 mi). The Elbe's major tributaries include the rivers Vltava, Ohře, Saale, Havel, Mulde, and Schwarze Elster. The Elbe river basin, comprising the Elbe and its tributaries, has a catchment area of 148,268 square kilometres (57,247 sq mi), the twelfth-largest in Europe. The basin spans four countries; however, it lies almost entirely in just two of them, Germany (65.5%) and the Czech Republic (33.7%, covering about two thirds of the nation's territory). On its southeastern edges, the Elbe river basin also comprises small parts of Austria (0.6%) and Poland (0.2%). The Elbe catchment area is inhabited by 24.4 million people; its biggest cities are Berlin, Hamburg, Prague, Dresden and Leipzig.

Sahlenburg Marine Radio Station was a facility of Elbe-Weser Radio in Sahlenburg, an urban part of Cuxhaven, Germany, for marine radio service in short- and mediumwave range. Sahlenburg Marine Radio Station used first a triangular antenna, which was fixed on three guyed wooden masts, each 40 metres tall, which were erected in 1929. In 1937 these masts were replaced by three 50-metre tall free-standing wood towers with triangular cross sections, which also carried a triangular antenna. In 1967 two of these towers were dismantled and the other was equipped with a long wire antenna. In 1970 this tower was demolished when two 67-metre tall guyed insulated mast radiators were built. Since the shut-down of Sahlenburg Marine Radio Station, they are used for mobile phone services.
