Bargfeld

Schmalwasser is a river of Lower Saxony, Germany on the southern edge of the Lüneburg Heath. The Schmalwasser rises near Blickwedel (a district of Sprakensehl), winds southwards, is joined from the left by the Räderbach and discharges into the Lutter in the village of Bargfeld. The story Die Wasserstraße by Arno Schmidt (1964) is about a walk up the Schmalwasser.

Lutter is a small river in the Lüneburg Heath, Lower Saxony, Germany, right tributary of the Lachte. The Lutter has its source near Weyhausen (district of Eschede), 7 km (4.3 mi) southeast of Unterlüß. It passes Bargfeld (where it is joined by the Schmalwasser), Eldingen, and Luttern (a district of Eldingen). It flows into the river Lachte at Jarnsen, near Lachendorf, east of Celle.

The Schmarloh is a ridge in the Südheide heath in the eastern part of the state of Lower Saxony in Germany, that lies between Groß Oesingen (Gifhorn district) and Lachendorf (Celle district) north of the Wiehe Stream. Its highest point is the 69-metre-high Jahrnsloh Berg, 2 km southwest of Groß Oesingen. It covers an area of 654 square kilometres (253 sq mi).Originally the Schmarloh was an end moraine that was formed in the Drenthe-II stage of the Ice Age about 230,000 years ago. Several ice sheets after another at an interval of about a thousand years pushed across the existing hills of loose stone and sand, repeatedly depositing material on the tundra-like areas which were reshaped by water and wind each time. Schmarloh is also part of the municipality of Groß Oesingen.

The Aschau is a stream in the Südheide Nature Park in Lower Saxony, Germany, It is a tributary of the Lachte, which in turn discharges into the Aller.

Eschede (German pronunciation: ['ɛʃədə]) is a municipality in the district of Celle, in Lower Saxony, Germany. Situated approximately 15 km (10 miles) northeast of Celle, Eschede lies at the border of the Südheide Nature Park, a protected area of large forests and heaths. Today around 20 small villages are part of the "Gemeinde Eschede". In 1975, the largest forest fire in the history of Germany destroyed vast tracts of forests in the area. The place is also known for the 1998 Eschede train disaster, in which an ICE 1 train crashed, killing 101 and making it the worst German rail accident since the Second World War. The painter Albert König (1881–1944) was born in Eschede, and the "Albert-König-Museum" can be visited in Unterlüß nearby. Eschede was the seat of the former Samtgemeinde ("collective municipality") of Eschede.

Höfer is a village and a former municipality in the district of Celle, in Lower Saxony, Germany. Since 1 January 2014, it has been part of the municipality Eschede, of which it is an Ortschaft. The Ortschaft Höfer contains the villages Höfer, Aschenberg and Ohe. Höfer has an abandoned mine named Mariaglück, about 910 m deep, from which the sum of 13.2 million tons of common salt and potash salt was mined between 1916 and 1977. As the maximum, in 1943 about 241,000 tons of salt were produced. The excavation left a hole of 5 million cubic metres. In World War II some military equipment was manufactured underground, safe from bombing raids. Radioactive waste from the deep geological repository Schacht Asse II in the Wolfenbüttel district and ashes from waste incineration facilities, containing toxic metals, were frequently transported to the mine Mariaglück. In 2009, the district court of Lüneburg prohibited any further waste transport by issuing a preliminary injunction. Höfer has its own volunteer fire brigade, an open-air bath, and a kindergarten.
