Riehen Niederholz railway station (German: Bahnhof Riehen Niederholz) is a railway station in the municipality of Riehen, in the Swiss canton of Basel-Stadt. It is located on the standard gauge Wiese Valley Railway of Deutsche Bahn.

The Basel Institute for Immunology (BII) was founded in 1969 as a basic research institute in immunology located at 487 Grenzacherstrasse, Basel, Switzerland on the Rhine River down the street from the main Hoffmann-La Roche campus near the Swiss-German border. The institute opened its doors in 1971.

Riehen (Swiss German: Rieche) is a municipality in the canton of Basel-Stadt in Switzerland. Together with the city of Basel and Bettingen, Riehen is one of three municipalities in the canton. Riehen hosts the Fondation Beyeler (a privately owned art gallery) as well as a toy museum and several parks. Riehen was the first municipality in Switzerland to elect a woman, Trudy Späth-Schweizer to political office, in 1958.The mathematician Leonhard Euler and the tennis player Roger Federer lived in Riehen during their childhood years.

The Beyeler Foundation or Fondation Beyeler with its museum in Riehen, near Basel (Switzerland), owns and oversees the art collection of Hildy and Ernst Beyeler, which features modern and traditional art. The Beyeler Foundation museum includes a space for special exhibitions staged to complement the permanent collection. In 2006, approximately 340,000 persons visited the museum. The number of visitors in 2016 was 332,000. The Beyeler Foundation is the most visited museum of art in all of Switzerland. The museum is properly funded, and it receives annual grants from the cantons of Basel City and Basel County and the commune of Riehen. Major partners of the Foundation are Bayer AG, Novartis and Swiss bank UBS.

Bettingen (Swiss German: Bettige) is a municipality in the canton of Basel-Stadt in Switzerland.

Stadion Rankhof is a football stadium in Basel, Switzerland. It has a capacity of 7,600 with 1,000 seats and 6,600 standing places. The record attendance of the original stadium was about 30,000 spectators. The stadium was rebuilt between 1993 and 1995. The stands face south towards the grass pitch. The north side of the stadium is completely constructed of glass to protect against the wind. The dimension of the pitch is 100 x 64 metres. It has a grass surface and flood-lighting. The second pitch, north of the stands, is the same size and also has flood-lighting. Rankhof has four training and one synthetic pitch, this also has flood-lights. Further there is a gymnasium and six tennis courts. Rankhof is the home ground for FC Nordstern Basel FC Basel U-21, and the Basel Gladiators American football club. Until the end the 2008/09 season it was also the home of FC Concordia Basel.

The Birs (French: Birse) is a 73-kilometre (45 mi) long river in Switzerland that flows through the Jura region and ends as a tributary to the Rhine between Basel and Birsfelden. It is the most important river of the Swiss Jura.
