St. John's Church, Tzum

Tzum (Dutch pronunciation: [tsʏm], West Frisian: Tsjom) is a village in Waadhoeke municipality in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands. It had a population of around 1,164 in January 2014. Tzum is known for its 72 metre tall church tower.

Barrum is a hamlet in the Dutch municipality of Waadhoeke in the province of Friesland. It is located south of Tzum, of which it is a part administratively. It lies directly to the north of the hamlet of Koum. It currently consists of two farms on a side road of a road called the Slotwei.

De Kampen (Dutch pronunciation: [də ˈkɑm.pə(n)]) is a hamlet in the Dutch municipality of Waadhoeke in the province of Friesland. It is located north of Fatum and southeast of Tzum, of which it is a part administratively. The settlement of the hamlet is located on the Wommelserweg, near the intersection with the Slotwei of the hamlet of Koum. De Kampen is a hamlet located on a terp. In 1433 it was mentioned as Op dae Campen and in 1640 and 1664 as De Campen, a name that would indicate pieces of land or fields that were separated. It then consisted of one farm that bore this name, which is still the name of a distillery in the hamlet. Three other farms were added in the 19th century.

Fatum (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈfaː.tʏm]; West Frisian: Fâtum or Fâltum) is a hamlet in the Dutch municipality of Waadhoeke in the province of Friesland. It is located northwest of Spannum and southwest of Tzum, of which it is a part administratively. The residences are located on the Wommelserweg between the hamlets De Kampen and Teetlum. In the hamlet is a windmill with the same name. Fatum originated on a terp over which the Wommelserweg runs. In 1433 it was first mentioned in a copy as Faltma, in 1457 as Faltum, in 1511 as Fautum and in 1718 as Faldum and Faatum. In the 19th century the last two also occur in addition to Fatum. The place name probably points to the fact that it was the residence (-heem/-um) of or founded by the person Falda or Falte. It is sometimes also thought that the name refers to a place of residence near a fenced sheepfold or milking parlor (fald).

Holprijp (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈɦɔlp.rɛi̯p]; West Frisian: Holpryp) is a hamlet in the Dutch municipality of Waadhoeke in the province of Friesland. It is located south of Franeker and northwest of Tzum, of which it is a part administratively. The settlement of the hamlet is located on the country road of the same name that runs from the Lollumerweg to Tzum. At Tzum it connects to the hamlet of Laakwerd.

Fatum is a drainage mill near the village of Tzum, Friesland, Netherlands. It is located in the eponymous hamlet of Fatum. It is a hollow post windmill of the type called "spinnenkop" by the Dutch. The mill is listed as a Rijksmonument, number 15876 and is in working order though it can no longer be used for drainage.

Franeker is a railway station located in Franeker, Netherlands. The station was opened on 27 October 1863 and is located on the Harlingen–Nieuweschans railway between Harlingen and Leeuwarden. The train services are operated by Arriva.

Teetlum, (West Frisian: Teatlum) after a nearby terp, also known as Duivenhok 'dove coat' named after the polder it drained, is a drainage mill near the village of Tzum, Friesland, Netherlands. It is a hollow post windmill of the type called spinnenkop by the Dutch. The mill is listed as a Rijksmonument, number 15877 and can be used to drain the adjacent polder.

Doijum (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈdoːi.ʏm]; West Frisian: Doaium) is a hamlet in the Dutch municipality of Waadhoeke in the province of Friesland. It is located east of Hitzum, southeast of Kie and south of Franeker. The Doijumervaart flows through the hamlet. The residential area of the hamlet is located on the Franekerweg and Hitzumerweg, between the Binnenpad van Hitzum and the Lollummerweg where it eventually turns into the hamlet of Miedum. It is spread over three settlements in terms of addressing; Hitzum, Franeker and Tzum. In 1402 the hamlet was mentioned as Dodoghema buren and in 1406 as Do(e)deghum. In 1447 it is mentioned as Doijem. The name derived from a compound of Old Frisian Dodo (a personal name) suffixed with the collectivising suffix -ingi- and hēm ('home, settlement').Before the municipal reorganization of 1984, the hamlet was divided between two municipalities, the municipality of Franeker and the municipality of Franekeradeel. After that, until 2018, it fell entirely within the merged municipality of Franekeradeel of the same name.

De Vlaren or Vlaren (Dutch pronunciation: [də ˈvlaː.rə(n)]; West Frisian: De Flearen or De Vlearen) is a hamlet in the Dutch municipality of Waadhoeke in the province of Friesland. It is located northwest of Lollum and southwest of Tzum, of which it is a part administratively. The residences are located on the Lollumerweg as a cluster of loose farms near the Baymerleane.

Franeker (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈfraːnəkər] ; West Frisian: Frjentsjer) is one of the eleven historical cities of Friesland and capital of the municipality of Waadhoeke. It is located north of the Van Harinxmakanaal and about 20 km west of Leeuwarden. As of 1 January 2014, it had 12,781 inhabitants. The Eise Eisinga Planetarium, established in 1781, is located in the city.

Franeker City Hall (Dutch: Stadhuis van Franeker) is the city hall of the municipality of Franeker, Netherlands, one of the eleven historical cities of Friesland. The building dates from 1591–1594 and was built in Frysian renaissance style. The first stone was laid on June 24, 1591. The building took a total of three years. Above the main entrance the coat of arms of Friesland is shown, and along the leadlights on the first floor, another 27 coats of arms are placed. It is a national monument and part of the Top 100 Dutch heritage sites. It is a rijksmonument since February 21, 1967, and is one of only three Frisian entries in the Top 100 Dutch heritage sites. The Dutch House in Brookline, Massachusetts, in the United States of America, was built as a partial copy of the Franeker City Hall, and is itself on the US National Register of Historic Places.
