Westwood is a residential area of the city of Peterborough, in the unparished area of Peterborough, in the Peterborough district, in the ceremonial county of Cambridgeshire, England. For electoral purposes it forms part of Ravensthorpe ward. Manufacturers of industrial machinery, Baker Perkins, relocated here from London in 1903. HMP Peterborough, the first purpose-built prison to house both men and women, opened on the site of the former engineering works in 2005. The area was named after DJ Tim Westwood's father, former bishop. The construction of the estate began in the mid 1960s on land formerly in use as RAF Peterborough, a Second World War training base for allied and Commonwealth pilots. The adjacent Westwood Farm, formerly Horrells Dairies, is now home to the New Covent Garden Soup Company. Highlees County Primary School is located in the area; secondary pupils attend nearby Jack Hunt School in Netherton. The Anglican parish church is dedicated to St Jude.

Its current form is the direct, unbroken successor of a smaller constituency that was created in the mid-16th century and used for the legislatures of England, Great Britain and the United Kingdom (UK). The seat today elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first-past-the-post system of election since 1885, before which its earlier form had two-member representation using the similar bloc vote system and both forms had a broadening but restricted franchise until 1918. The current MP is Paul Bristow of the Conservative Party, who was elected at the 2019 general election.

The Soke of Peterborough is a historic area of England associated with the City and Diocese of Peterborough, but considered part of Northamptonshire. The Soke was also described as the Liberty of Peterborough, or Nassaburgh hundred, and comprised, besides Peterborough, about thirty parishes.The area forms much of the present City of Peterborough unitary authority area in the post-1974 ceremonial county of Cambridgeshire. The Church of England dioceses of Peterborough and Ely still, however, follow the boundary of the Soke, with only the part of the city that is north of the River Nene lying within the Diocese of Peterborough, while Thorney and urban areas south of the Nene, including Stanground and Fletton, are in the Diocese of Ely. The term soke refers to a general legal term in medieval England referring to various concepts, including a jurisdiction of land or rights to hold a court or receive fines.

For electoral purposes it forms part of Peterborough West ward. The Memorial Hospital, built by public subscription and donation on Midland Road in 1928, was transferred to the National Health Service in 1948, coming under No. 12 Group (Peterborough and Stamford) Hospital Management Committee of the East Anglian Regional Hospital Board. The neo-Georgian hospital (latterly the Memorial Wing) was enlarged by the massive addition of Peterborough District Hospital, built in continuous phases between 1960 and 1968.In 2010, as part of the £300 million Greater Peterborough health investment plan, the city's two hospitals transferred to a single site on the grounds of the former Edith Cavell Hospital in Westwood. The 22 acre (8.9 ha) site, now known as the Hospital Quarter, is currently proposed for redevelopment.The Dairy Crest depot, formerly the co-operative Anglia Dairies, is also based on Midland Road. West Town County Primary opened on Williamson Avenue in 1909, originally an Infant then Junior Mixed and Infant school; secondary pupils attend nearby Jack Hunt School in Netherton. West Town School relocated to new premises on the site of the former Memorial Hospital in 2016. The hospital's facade was retained as a lasting memorial to those of the city and the 6th Northamptonshire Regiment who died in the first world war. The stone porch has a plain frieze and moulded cornice supported on paired doric columns; an inscription above the doors to the entrance lobby reads IN REMEMBRANCE 1914–1918.

Millfield is a residential area of the city of Peterborough, in the unparished area of Peterborough, in the Peterborough district, in the ceremonial county of Cambridgeshire, England. For electoral purposes it comprises the main part of Peterborough Central ward. A multicultural area, the Faidhan-e-Madina Mosque opened in nearby New England in 2003. The area has at times seen high racial tensions and disturbances, most notably in September 2001 when teenager Ross Parker was murdered by a gang of Muslims of Pakistani origin, in an unprovoked racially motivated attack.Gladstone and The Beeches County Primary and Queens Drive Infant schools are located in the area; following the closure of nearby Deacon's School in July 2007, secondary pupils attend the flagship Thomas Deacon Academy which opened in September 2007. The area falls within the ecclesiastical parish of Saint Mark (Lincoln Road) with Saint Barnabas (Taverners Road). The former Italian Catholic mission church of Saint Joseph (San Giuseppe) was run by the Scalabrini Fathers for many years and the adjacent nursery, which opened in 1977, was originally run by the missionary sisters.

New England is a residential area of Peterborough in the Peterborough district, in the ceremonial county of Cambridgeshire, England. For electoral purposes it forms part of Peterborough North ward. The area is bounded by Millfield to the south, Dogsthorpe to the east, by the A47 (Soke Parkway) to the north and the A15 (Bourges Boulevard) to the west. The Faidhan-e-Madina Mosque opened here in 2003.Railway lines began operating locally during the 1840s, but it was the 1850 opening of the Great Northern Railway's main line from London to York, that transformed Peterborough from a market town to an industrial centre. Relatively little urban development took place to the west of the railway, but the marshalling yards and other installations were labour-intensive and housing for railway workers and their families spread from the vicinity of the North station almost to Walton. The Great Northern built an entire community here, which provided much of the labour for the enormous marshalling yard and associated engine sheds close by.The area falls within the ecclesiastical parish of Saint Paul and a Victorian church was erected at the Triangle in 1869. Fulbridge County Primary School is located in the area; following the closure of nearby Walton Comprehensive School in July 2007, secondary pupils attend Queen Katharine Academy which opened on the same site in September 2007.

Ross Andrew Parker (17 August 1984 – 21 September 2001), from Peterborough, England, was a seventeen-year-old white English male murdered in an unprovoked racially motivated crime. He bled to death after being stabbed, beaten with a hammer and repeatedly kicked by a gang of British Pakistani men. The incident occurred in Millfield, Peterborough, ten days after the September 11 attacks.In December 2002, Shaied Nazir, Ahmed Ali Awan and Sarfraz Ali were unanimously found guilty of Parker's murder and sentenced to life imprisonment, each receiving minimum terms ranging from 16 to 18 years. A fourth defendant, Zairaff Mahrad, was cleared of murder and manslaughter.A memorial plaque for Parker is located in the Netherton area of Peterborough where a football match is played each year in his memory.
