The main A30 road used to pass through the hamlet but a dual carriageway bypass and graded junction have been constructed to the south of the original road. There is a Grade II listed eighteenth century guidestone beside the old road, consisting of a 5-foot (1.5 m) granite monolith with a rounded head. The text "WITHIEL" is carved into it, and the letters are painted.

Rosehill Manor is a Grade II* listed country house in the civil parish of Penzance in west Cornwall, England, UK. The house was built in 1814 for Richard Oxnam (1768–1844) one of the three founders of the Penzance Bank in 1797, and altered and extended later in the 19th century. The deeds were destroyed by enemy action during World War II and in the latter part of the 20th century the house was the base for a riding stables.

The settlement is mentioned in Herman Melville's short story "The Lightning-Rod Man", included in The Piazza Tales (1856), which says 'In Criggan last month, I put up three-and-twenty rods on only five buildings.' 'Let me see. Was it not at Criggan last week, about midnight on Saturday, that the steeple, the big elm and the assembly-room cupola were struck?.'

Carbis is a hamlet 0.9 miles (1.4 km) east of Roche in Cornwall, England. Carbis lies at about 495 feet (151 m) above sea level. Rosemellyn China Clay works lies 0.4 miles (0.64 km) north-east of Carbis. In the 19th century the mining of china clay was an important industry around St Austell indeed the area has the nickname of the "china clay country". The Rosemellyn China Clay company went into liquidation in 1918. A short railway branch line (now dismantled) ran from Carbis Wharf to the sidings at nearby Bugle as part of the Cornwall Minerals Railway.

Withielgoose or Withel-goose is a hamlet in Cornwall, England, UK. Withielgoose, from the Cornish gwyth (trees), yel (origin unknown) and coes (wood) suggests the clearance of woodland to create agricultural land. The hamlet is accessed via Withielgoose Lane and contains Withielgoose Manor. Withielgoose belongs historically to the parish of Withiel along with Retire and Tregawne; the parish had a total population of about 300 in 1824. It lies about five miles west of Bodmin and six miles east north east of St Columb Major.Withielgoose Manor belonged to Bodmin Priory and previously to William I by the Earl of Cornwall under the church of St Petroc at Bodmin. It was leased by the crown in 1539 to Richard Kendall, and, in 1588, granted in fee-farm to Richard Branthwayte and Roger Bromley. It was then occupied by the Coswarth family. Bridget was the sole heir of the Coswarths and married her cousin Henry Minors. Their daughter Anne inherited the manor and married Francis Vivian of Trewan Hall. The property then passed through their only child Mary who married Sir R. Vyvyan, Bart. of Trelowarren, the ancestor of Sir R. R. Vyvyan, Bart., a Tory politician who sat in the House of Commons for various periods between 1825 and 1857. The Vyvyan family still owned the manor in the early 1800s.The Vyvyans were a prominent Cornish family who were members of Parliament, baronets, and landowners in Penwith and Kerrier since the 15th century. They have owned the large estate called Trelowarren in the parish of Mawgan-in-Meneage for nearly 600 years. The living of the rectory is attached to the manor.

The name Withiel comes from the Cornish word Gwydhyel, meaning "wooded place". The parish contains the hamlets of Withielgoose, Retire and Tregawne; the parish had a total population of about 300 in 1824.At Ruthernbridge is an early 15th-century bridge with two pointed arches over the Ruthern. The hamlet here was until 1933 a halt on the Bodmin to Wadebridge railway line. The River Ruthern rises near Victoria in the parish of Roche and flows northwards through the parish of Withiel; it flows into the River Camel one kilometre above Brocton.Notable people from the parish include Sir Bevil Grenville (1596–July 5, 1643), a Royalist soldier in the English Civil War.
