Church of San Menna

The Cathedral of Sant'Agata de'Goti, also known as the Cathedral of the Assumption, is a Roman Catholic cathedral located in Sant'Agata de' Goti, Benevento, Italy. It serves as the main church of the comune and one of the co-cathedrals of the Diocese of Cerreto Sannita-Telese-Sant'Agata de' Goti, along with that of Cerreto Sannita. The church was founded in 970, reconstructed in the 13th century, and then restored multiple times following the 1688 Sannio earthquake. The cathedral is a National Monument of Italy.

Sant'Agata de' Goti is a comune (municipality) and former Catholic bishopric in the Province of Benevento in the Italian region Campania, located about 35 km (22 mi) northeast of Naples and about 25 km (16 mi) west of Benevento near the Monte Taburno.

Saticula was a Caudini city near the frontier of Campania in southern Italy. In 343 BC, during the First Samnite War, the Roman consul Cornelius attacked it during the campaign against the Samnites in the Battle of Saticula. Its archaeological remains are in the territory of the modern town of Sant'Agata de' Goti. Ceramic evidence from Saticula and nearby Caudium suggest that the two cities were part of a trade network along the Volturno River, linking the area with the rest of eastern Campagnia and the coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea, as well as to the northern areas, including the Pentri settlements of Bovianum and Saepinum.

The Battle of Saticula, 343 BC, was the second of three battles described by the Roman historian Livy (59 BC – AD 17), in Book Seven of his history of Rome, Ab Urbe Condita, as taking place in the first year of the First Samnite War. According to Livy's extensive description, the Roman commander, the consul Aulus Cornelius Cossus was marching from Saticula (in southern Italy) when he was almost trapped by a Samnite army in a mountain pass. His army was only saved because one of his military tribunes, Publius Decius Mus, led a small group of men to seize a hilltop, distracting the Samnites and allowing the consul to escape. During the night Decius and his men were themselves able to escape. The next day the reunited Romans attacked the Samnites and completely routed them. Several other ancient authors also mention Decius' heroic acts. Modern historians are however sceptical of the historical accuracy of Livy's account, and have in particular noted the similarities with how a military tribune is said to have saved Roman army in 258 BC during the First Punic War.

Durazzano is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Benevento in the Italian region Campania, located about 30 km northeast of Naples and about 30 km west of Benevento. As of 1 January 2020, it had a population of 2,171 and an area of 13.2 km2. Durazzano borders the following municipalities: Cervino, Sant'Agata de' Goti, Santa Maria a Vico, Valle di Maddaloni.

In the past it had a largely agricultural economy though today it is a flourishing commercial centre. Santa Maria a Vico is strategically positioned between Caserta, Benevento and Naples.

Airola is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Benevento in the Italian region Campania, located about 35 km (22 mi) northeast of Naples and about 20 km (12 mi) southwest of Benevento in the Valle Caudina, facing the Monte Taburno. Nearby is the confluence of the Tesa and Faenza streams into the Isclero River. Airola's territory is also crossed by the Acquedotto Carolino, carrying waters to the Caserta Palace.

The Battle of Caudine Forks, 321 BC, was a decisive event of the Second Samnite War. Its designation as a battle is a mere historical formality: there was no fighting and there were no casualties. The Romans were trapped in an enclosed valley by the Samnites before they knew what was happening and nothing remained but to negotiate an unfavorable surrender. The action was entirely political, with the magistrates on both sides trying to obtain the best terms for their side without disrespecting common beliefs concerning the rules of war and the conduct of peace. In the end the Samnites decided it would be better for future relations to let the Romans go, while the Romans were impeded in the prosecution of their campaign against the Samnites by considerations of religion and honor.

Frasso Telesino is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Benevento in the Italian region Campania, located about 40 km northeast of Naples and about 20 km west of Benevento. Frasso Telesino borders the following municipalities: Cautano, Dugenta, Melizzano, Sant'Agata de' Goti, Solopaca, Tocco Caudio, Vitulano. It is located on the western slopes of the Monte Taburno. Sights include the hermitage of San Michele, the Palazzo Gambacorta and the 18th century church of Madonna di Campanile.

Valle di Maddaloni is a comune (municipality) of 2 661 inhabitants in the Province of Caserta in the Italian region Campania, located about 30 kilometres (19 mi) northeast of Naples and about 7 kilometres (4 mi) east of Caserta. In the communal territory is the Caroline Aqueduct, built by architect Luigi Vanvitelli to carry water from Monte Taburno to the Caserta Palace.
