Melizzano

The Battle of Caudine Forks, 321 BC, was a decisive event of the Second Samnite War. Its designation as a battle is a mere historical formality: there was no fighting and there were no casualties. The Romans were trapped in an enclosed valley by the Samnites before they knew what was happening and nothing remained but to negotiate an unfavorable surrender. The action was entirely political, with the magistrates on both sides trying to obtain the best terms for their side without disrespecting common beliefs concerning the rules of war and the conduct of peace. In the end the Samnites decided it would be better for future relations to let the Romans go, while the Romans were impeded in the prosecution of their campaign against the Samnites by considerations of religion and honor.

Frasso Telesino is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Benevento in the Italian region Campania, located about 40 km northeast of Naples and about 20 km west of Benevento. Frasso Telesino borders the following municipalities: Cautano, Dugenta, Melizzano, Sant'Agata de' Goti, Solopaca, Tocco Caudio, Vitulano. It is located on the western slopes of the Monte Taburno. Sights include the hermitage of San Michele, the Palazzo Gambacorta and the 18th century church of Madonna di Campanile.

The Calore Irpino or Calore Beneventano or Calore river is a river in southwestern Italy. It rises from Colle Finestra (1,060 metres (3,480 ft) above sea level), a mountain saddle between Monte Acellica and the Terminio sub-group in the Monti Picentini, sub-range of the Apennine Mountains. The river flows first in the province of Avellino, and then in that of Benevento, before flowing into the Volturno. In ancient times it was known as Calor.

The Battle of Ager Falernus was a skirmish during the Second Punic War between the armies of Rome and Carthage. After winning the Battle of Lake Trasimene in Italy in 217 BC, the army commanded by Hannibal marched south and reached Campania. The Carthaginians ultimately moved into the district of Falernum, a fertile river valley surrounded by mountains. Quintus Fabius Maximus Verrucosus, who had been elected Roman dictator and commander of the Roman field forces after the disastrous defeat at Lake Trasimene, had dogged Hannibal and stuck to a strategy to fight only under favourable conditions. He now occupied all the river crossings and mountain passes leading out of the valley, thus blocking the Carthaginians inside. After stripping the area of grain, cattle, and other supplies, Hannibal displayed brilliant tactics to provoke the Roman guard to leave one of the passes. Despite the protests of his staff officers, Fabius, who was camped near the pass with his main forces, refused to attack the Carthaginian army and it escaped the trap unscathed.

Solopaca (Campanian: Surrupaca) is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Benevento in the Italian region Campania, located about 45 kilometres (28 mi) northeast of Naples and about 20 kilometres (12 mi) northwest of Benevento. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 4,134 and an area of 31.0 square kilometres (12.0 sq mi).Solopaca borders the following municipalities: Castelvenere, Frasso Telesino, Guardia Sanframondi, Melizzano, Telese Terme, Vitulano.

Lago di Telese is a lake in the Province of Benevento, Campania, Italy. Its surface area is 0.049 km2.

Telese Terme, called simply Telese until 1991, is a city, comune (municipality) and former episcopal seat in the Province of Benevento, in the Campania region of southern Italy. It is located in the valley of the Calore, well known for its sulfuric hot springs.

Castelvenere (Castelvenerese: R' Viennr) is a town and comune in the Province of Benevento, Campania Region, Italy. It is a member of the Titerno "Local Action Group."

The Isclero is a stream in Campania, southern Italy. Its sources is formed by confluence of the Varco, Cola and Querci torrents; it then flows in the Valle Caudina, where it receives the waters of the Tesa and Faenza, and then continues running in the Moiano ravine and, subsequently, in the territory of Sant'Agata de' Goti. The Isclero flows into the Volturno near Limatola.

Monte Acero is a mountain of Campania, Italy situated in the Telesina Valley and shared by the municipalities of San Salvatore Telesino and Faicchio, next to the Monaco di Gioia and its peaks, which are offshoots of the Matese mountains.
