Trinity House Pilot Station

Folkestone Harbour station was one of four railway stations in Folkestone, Kent. It served Folkestone Harbour with connecting boat train services across the English Channel to Calais and Boulogne. The station was opened by the South Eastern Railway (SER) in 1849 as part of a project to redevelop the harbour and connect it to the wider railway network. The local geography prevented direct access from the South Eastern main line, so a 1-mile (1.6 km) 1-in-32 branch line was built from Folkestone Junction, which crossed the harbour on a viaduct, reaching the station at the pier. Originally designed for freight, the line also became popular with continental passenger services. The station was redeveloped in the early 20th century and it was an important destination for soldiers during World War I. The opening of the Channel Tunnel in 1994 made Folkestone Harbour uncompetitive, and the station began to decline, with regular passenger services ending in 2001. After this, the line saw occasional steam rail tours and Venice-Simplon Orient Express (VSOE) trains, with the final service running in 2009. The station was formally closed in 2014, and redeveloped into a market and restaurants along with the rest of the harbour complex.

The Grand Burstin Hotel is located at Folkestone Harbour in the seaside town of Folkestone, England. The hotel was almost completely rebuilt in the 1970s after the new owner, Motyl Burstin, purchased the site of the previous Royal Pavilion Hotel in 1955. Dating to the mid-nineteenth century, the Royal Pavilion Hotel designed by Sir William Cubitt was built on the site of an older hotel of the same name, opening to the public in 1845. The establishment was visited by historic figures such as Charles Dickens and received its "Royal" title after a rumoured visitation from Queen Victoria during 1855. After being taken over by the Royal Navy during World War II for use as HMS Allenby, Royal Pavilion fell into disrepair and in 1955 was purchased by a new owner. Building of the Grand Burstin, then known as Hotel Burstin, occurred throughout the 1970s, with it opening to the public in 1975. Demolition of the Royal Pavilion concluded in 1982, with the Burstin then extended, leaving the south wing and back entrance of the Royal Pavilion to be connected to the new building. Since the Britannia Hotels takeover in 2004, the hotel has received widespread criticism for poor standards relating to health and safety, maintenance, cleanliness and use as an emergency shelter for migrants. The building has been used as a filming location for both the 2022 Disney+ miniseries Pistol and the 2023 film Who Is Erin Carter?.

Folkestone Priory was a pre-Reformation Benedictine monastery at Folkestone in the English county of Kent. The priory church survives as the present parish church. It was the successor to Folkestone Abbey, an Anglo-Saxon nunnery on a different site.

St Mary and St Eanswythe's Church is a Grade II* listed Anglican church in Folkestone, Kent, situated not far from cliffs overlooking the English Channel. Parts of the building date from the 13th century, but it was largely rebuilt in the 19th century. It is unusual in having a central tower.

Art Buff is a graffiti artwork by Banksy which was created in Folkestone in 2014, Banksy announcing it as "part of the Folkestone triennial. Kind of". The work depicts a woman wearing headphones and staring at a plinth, upon which rests a patch of painted-out graffiti. The name of the piece is a play on words, "buff" being a slang term for the painting over of graffiti.Reported on 13 October 2014, Art Buff was vandalized with the spray painting of a penis sitting on top of the plinth.During early November 2014 Robin Barton and Bankrobber London organized the removal of Art Buff from its Folkestone location following requests from the owners of the wall, and announced plans to put it up for sale in aid of a cancer charity set up in memory of Jimmy Godden. On 27 November 2014, the work was flown to Miami Art Basel to be offered for sale. On 11 September 2015, a British judge ruled that the mural was public property, and had to be returned to Folkestone. Plans were announced to include the artwork as part of a new building in 2018. It finally returned to Folkestone in 2020 as part of the Creative Quarter's "The Plinth" event.

Folkestone Town Hall, also known as The Guildhall, is a municipal building in Guildhall Street, Folkestone, Kent, England. The town hall, which was the headquarters of Folkestone Borough Council, is a Grade II listed building.

Folkestone War Memorial is a First World War memorial situated in The Leas area of Folkestone, Kent. Designed by Ferdinand Victor Blundstone and unveiled in 1922, it commemorates the 578 men of Folkestone who served in the war, and those who passed through Folkestone Harbour when Folkestone Harbour railway station nearby was an important point of departure and return for passage to the Western Front via Boulogne. The road from the station to the harbour was renamed the "Road of Remembrance" after the war.

Folkestone Lifeboat Station was located on the shore side of Marine Parade, between the Leas Lift and Marine Gardens, in the harbour town of Folkestone, in the county of Kent. A lifeboat station was first established here in 1893 by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI). Folkestone lifeboat station was closed in 1930.

The Leas Lift is a grade II* listed funicular railway that carries passengers between the seafront and the promenade in Folkestone, Kent. Originally installed in 1885, it is one of the oldest water lifts in the UK.The lift operates using water and gravity and is controlled from a small cabin at the top of the cliff. It has carried more than 36.4 million people since it opened, in a process that is especially energy efficient. The lift has a very small carbon footprint, as it emits no pollution and recycles all of the water used to drive the cars.On June 1991, the lift was seen in an episode of The Darling Buds of May.In June 2009, Folkestone and Hythe District Council’s lease ran out and it was decided that the lift was too expensive to run. Campaigners subsequently protested against the closure of the lift and in April 2010, it was announced that the lift was to be restored.

Folkestone East is a former railway station in Folkestone, England. Opened by the South Eastern Railway in 1843 as part of its main line from London, it was Folkestone's first station and handled substantial boat train traffic travelling to the Continent via Folkestone Harbour. Passenger traffic declined in later years with the opening of other more convenient stations in the town and the station eventually closed in 1965.

Lower Leas Coastal Park is in Folkestone, in Kent, England. The park is split into three broad recreational zones, starting at The Leas Lift (on Lower Sandgate Road) and heading west. The formal zone comprises pine avenues and flower gardens, planted for all-year-round interest. The fun zone comprises the large free adventure play area and the amphitheatre. The last area, the wild zone, has been created for a diverse wildlife habitat, with careful management.
