Fjell Fortress

Fjell is a village in Øygarden municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the central part of the island of Sotra, about 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) southwest of the neighboring village of Kolltveit. The village is the site of Fjell Church. The 0.28-square-kilometre (69-acre) village has a population (2019) of 437 and a population density of 1,561 inhabitants per square kilometre (4,040/sq mi).

Fjell Church (Norwegian: Fjell kyrkje) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Øygarden Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Fjell on the island of Sotra. It is one of the three churches for the Fjell parish which is part of the Vesthordland prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The white, wooden church was built in a long church design in 1874 using plans drawn up by the architect Conrad Fredrik von der Lippe. The church seats about 700 people.

Kolltveit is a village in Øygarden municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The village lies on the eastern shore of the island of Sotra. The island of Bildøyna lies about 100 metres (330 ft) east of the shore in Kolltveit. National Road 555 reaches Kolltveit via the Kolltveit Tunnel, and intersects with the terminus of County Road 561 in a roundabout before heading south. There is a golf course in the area.

Bildøyna or Bildøy is an island in Øygarden Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The 1.5-square-kilometre (0.58 sq mi) island lies between the islands of Litlesotra (to its west) and Store Sotra (to its east). An upper secondary school and a lower secondary school are located on the island.

Fjell is a former municipality in the old Hordaland county, Norway. It is part of the traditional district of Midhordland. The municipality consisted of several islands west of the city of Bergen, the major ones being Litlesotra, the northern part of Store Sotra, Bildøy, Bjorøy, Misje, and Turøy. The administrative centre of Fjell is the village of Straume. Some of the villages in Fjell included Ågotnes, Fjell, Foldnes, Knappskog, Knarrevik, Kolltveit, Landro, and Sekkingstad. On 1 January 2020, the municipality became part of Øygarden Municipality in Vestland county. Due to the opening of the Sotra Bridge to the mainland in 1971 and its proximity to the city of Bergen, the population has grown from less than 7,000 to over 25,000 as of 2017. The result is major traffic jams over the bridge every day. The highway that leads to Bergen has reduced the traveling time to only fifteen minutes from the municipal centre at Straume on Litlesotra to the center of Bergen. At the time of its dissolution in 2020, the 148-square-kilometre (57 sq mi) municipality is the 355th largest by area out of the 422 municipalities in Norway. Fjell was the 43rd most populous municipality in Norway with a population of 25,204. The municipality's population density is 178.5 inhabitants per square kilometre (462/sq mi) and its population has increased by 21.2% over the last decade.

Straume is the administrative center of Øygarden municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The village is located on the western part of the island of Litlesotra, just south of the village of Foldnes and southwest of the village of Knarrvika. Straume is the centre of government for the municipality and it is also the centre of commerce for the municipality. The large Sartor Senter, a regional shopping center is located in Straume. There is a bridge on Norwegian National Road 555 that connects Straume to the island of Bildøyna, immediately to the west. This bridge is the only road connection to the Øygarden municipality.Statistics Norway groups Straume and neighboring Knarrevik together as one large urban area for statistical purposes. The 6.91-square-kilometre (1,710-acre) urban area of Knarrevik/Straume has a population (2019) of 11,502 and a population density of 1,665 inhabitants per square kilometre (4,310/sq mi).

Foldnes is a village in Øygarden municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The village is located on the northwestern shore of the island of Litlesotra, just north of the village of Straume. The Foldnes Church is located in this village, and it serves the people of the island of Litlesotra.

Knappskog is a village in Øygarden municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The village lies along the northeastern coast of the island of Sotra, about halfway between the villages of Ågotnes (to the north) and Kolltveit (to the south). The island of Geitung lies about 500 metres (1,600 ft) off the coast of Knappskog. The 0.91-square-kilometre (220-acre) village has a population (2019) of 1,640 and a population density of 1,802 inhabitants per square kilometre (4,670/sq mi).

Foldnes Church (Norwegian: Foldnes kyrkje) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Øygarden Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Foldnes on the island of Litlesotra. It is one of the three churches for the Fjell parish which is part of the Vesthordland prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The modern-looking wood and leca church was built in a rectangular design in 2001 using plans drawn up by the architect Kolbjørn Jensen. The church seats about 700 people.

Litlesotra, or sometimes Lille Sotra, is an island in Øygarden Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is part of the Sotra island group which makes up the southern part of a larger archipelago of islands from Fedje south through Øygarden. The 16.7-square-kilometre (6.4 sq mi) island has about 10,000 residents. The main settlement on the island is Straume. Other settlements include Knarrevik, Foldnes, and Brattholmen. The island is connected to the mainland via the Sotra Bridge. It is also connected to the large island of Sotra, via a series of bridges over the island of Bildøy.The island lies where the Hjeltefjorden meets the Byfjorden. The island of Bjorøyna lies to the south, the island of Askøy lies to the northeast, the island of Geitung lies to the northwest, and Bildøy and Sotra islands lie to the west. The Bergen Peninsula on the mainland lies to the east.

Geitanger or Geitung is an island in Øygarden Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The 0.9-square-kilometre (220-acre) island is entirely car-free, and the population of the island is very low.

Hammarsland (Urban East Norwegian: [ˈhɑ̂mːɑʂlɑn]) is a village in Øygarden municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The village is located on the island of Sotra, just east of the village of Skogsvåg. The 0.57-square-kilometre (140-acre) village has a population (2019) of 929 and a population density of 1,630 inhabitants per square kilometre (4,200/sq mi).
