St Cuthbert's Church, Colburn

Colburn is a town, civil parish and electoral ward in North Yorkshire, England, 2 miles (3.2 km) west of Catterick. It had a population of 4,860 at the 2011 census, rising from 3,606 in 2001.

Richmond and Northallerton is a constituency of the House of Commons in the UK Parliament. Further to the completion of the 2023 review of Westminster constituencies, it was first contested at the 2024 general election, when it was won by Rishi Sunak, who was at the time leader of the Conservative Party and Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Sunak previously represented the predecessor seat of Richmond (Yorks) from 2015 to 2024. The constituency is named after the North Yorkshire towns of Richmond and Northallerton.

Colburn Hall is a historic building in Colburn, North Yorkshire, a village in England. The oldest part of the complex is a hall with an undercroft, now known as the courthouse, which was constructed in about 1300. About 50 years later, another two-storey block was constructed; this now forms the cross-wing of the hall. It is possible that the two structures were linked by a central range, probably built of timber; or alternatively, that they were separate but associated buildings. If a central range did exist, it was demolished before 1718, the date of a surviving sketch showing the current arrangement. In 1662, a new range was added to the west cross-wing, which was thereafter used as the new Colburn Hall, by the D'Arcy family. It was later used as a farmhouse, and was Grade II* listed in 1951. The courthouse had its roof rebuilt, and a barn was built onto it. The building itself was later used as a barn, with the ground floor used for stabling by the 19th century. The courthouse was Grade I listed in 1969. It was added to the Heritage at Risk register in 2000, at which time it was disused, but it was restored in 2010. The hall is built of stone, with quoins, and a stone slate roof with stone copings, shaped kneelers, and finials. It has two storeys, and a T-shaped plan, with a front range of four bays, and a rear outshut. The doorway has a slightly chamfered surround and a hood mould, above which is a carved coat of arms. The windows vary, and include sashes and casements, some with mullions. Inside, there is an 18th-century stone surround for a range. The courthouse is also built of stone, with quoins, and a pantile roof with stone slates at the eaves, raised verges with moulded coping, and finials. There are two storeys, consisting of a first-floor hall and an undercroft, and five bays. It contains doorways and windows of various types, and retains an early fireplace in the east wall of the upper floor.

St Paulinus' Church is a former Catholic church in Brough with St Giles, a village in North Yorkshire in England. A Catholic chapel associated with Brough Hall was constructed in 1758. The church was commissioned by William Lawson, and constructed in 1837 to a design by Ignatius Bonomi. It was Grade II* listed in 1987. In 1992, the church and adjoining presbytery and schoolroom were purchased by the art collector Greville Worthington, who converted it into holiday accommodation. The church and attached buildings built of sandstone and have Welsh slate roofs. The church has two storeys and five bays, with schoolrooms in the ground floor and the church above, which has a nave and a chancel in one unit, and a north vestry. The presbytery has two storeys, three bays, and a double depth plan. The central doorway has a fanlight, the windows are sashes, and there is a coped parapet. At the rear is a walled yard with stables and other outbuildings. Inside the church, there is a grand altar based on the tomb of Walter de Gray at York Minster, and below it, a sarcophagus transferred from the catacombs of Rome, said to contain the remains of Saint Innocent. The reredos was designed by George Walker Milburn and installed in 1887. The east window has stained glass by Thomas Willement, a copy of the Five Sisters window at York Minster. The south windows have glass by William Wailes from the 1850s, and the north west window glass by H. M. Barnett, installed in 1880. There is also an 11th-century font.

Skeeby Beck is a small river flowing through Gilling West and Skeeby, near to Richmond, in North Yorkshire, England. Skeeby Beck drains the moorland to the north of Richmond and south of the A66 road, and flows in a south-easterly direction until it runs into the River Swale at Brompton-on-Swale. The Environment Agency designate the beck as a one river, even though it has four names along its length. Artificial modification of the beck to enable draining of surrounding fields has straightened the channel in its lower courses, and the bricking up of at least one arch on Gilling Bridge is thought exacerbate flooding when the area is subjected to high rainfall.

Brough with St Giles is a village and a civil parish in North Yorkshire, England. The civil parish also includes the settlements of Catterick Bridge and Walkerville, and Catterick Racecourse and the site of the Roman town of Cataractonium. According to the 2001 Census the parish had a population of 338, increasing to 801 at the 2011 census. Brough was known as Burgh until the 17th century. It was historically a township in the ancient parish of Catterick in the North Riding of Yorkshire. It became a separate civil parish in 1866. In 1974 it was transferred to the new county of North Yorkshire and was part of the Richmondshire district until 2023. St Giles is now a single farm in the north of the parish. Near the modern farm is the site of the medieval hospital of St Giles, a Scheduled Ancient Monument excavated in 1988–1990. Brough Hall is a Grade I listed country house which has now been converted to apartments. It was originally built in the 15th century but has been altered and extended several times since then. Originally owned by the de Burgh family, from c. 1575 it belonged to the Lawsons. The former Roman Catholic church of St Paulinus in the grounds of Brough Hall was designed in 1837 by Ignatius Bonomi for the recusant William Lawson and is a Grade II* listed building.

The Duchess of Kent Military Hospital was an army hospital and nurse training facility in Catterick Garrison, North Yorkshire, England.

St Paul's Church is an Anglican church in Brompton-on-Swale, a village in North Yorkshire, in England. The village is part of the parish of St Agatha's Church, Easby. Brompton did not have its own place of worship until 1838, when a chapel of ease was constructed. Half of the building was partitioned off as a schoolroom until 1872, when a new school was built behind the church. The church was Grade II listed in 1969. It was reordered in the 1990s, with the pews replaced by moveable seats. It church is built of stone with a Welsh slate roof, and consists of a two-bay nave with a north porch, and a higher two-bay chancel with a south vestry. On the west gable is a bellcote with Baroque-style coping. The windows in the nave and the east window have Perpendicular tracery, while the other windows in the chancel have Y-tracery.

Risedale Beck is a small river that rises on Hipswell Moor, near Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire, England. The name derives from Old Norse as meaning either Risi's Valley (a personal name) or translated as a valley overgrown with brushwood. Risedale Beck flows eastwards into Catterick Garrison as Leadmill Gill, (also known as Cottages Beck) which in turn flows into Colburn Beck, a tributary of the River Swale. The length of the beck from source to the River Swale is 6.5 miles (10.4 km). As the beck passes through Catterick Garrison, its northern bank forms the edge of Foxglove Covert, a nationally acclaimed nature reserve on military land. Otters have been noted at the covert and they were filmed fishing on the beck. In June 2007, the area suffered 2-months worth of rain in 48 hours. This led to the beck being swollen from what is normally a trickle to waist deep water. A British Army infantry course on their final 8 mi (13 km) fitness test forded the beck. One private was swept away to his death.

St Trinian's Hall is a historic building in Easby, a village near Richmond, North Yorkshire, in England. In the mediaeval period, there was a monastic grange on the site, associated with Easby Abbey. The name "St Trinian" was associated with it by the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the 1530s, believed to be a reference to Saint Ninian. The current building dates from the early to mid 18th century, with wings added before 1785. The building was altered in 1906, and during the First World War, it was purchased by Everard Radcliffe, who lived there until his death in 1969. A local story claims that Radcliffe planted a copse of willows on the property, in order that they could be used in the manufacture of cricket bats for Yorkshire County Cricket Club. The building was grade II listed in 1969. In 2022, it was put up for sale, with a guide price of £2.5 million. At the time, the property included a reception hall, dining room, drawing room, sitting room, library, hobby room, kitchen, utility room and two cloakrooms on the ground floor, with six bedrooms, four bathrooms and a further sitting room on the upper floors. There was a cottage at the rear, and about 20 acres of gardens and parkland. The house is built of sandstone, with a red tile roof. It has two storeys and an L-shaped plan, with a main range of five bays, flanking two-bay wings, and a later rear wing on the right. The south front has a plinth, chamfered rusticated quoins, a cornice, and a parapet with ball finials on pedestals. In the centre is a Doric portico with three-quarter columns and a pediment. This is flanked by canted bay windows, and in the upper floor are sash windows in architraves. Inside, there is an early-18th century stone fireplace, and an early staircase in the rear wing.
