The 2004 Ashdod Port bombings were two suicide bombings carried out nearly simultaneously on March 14, 2004 at the Port of Ashdod in Ashdod, Israel. As a result, 10 civilians were killed and 16 were injured. Hamas and Fatah claimed joint responsibility for the attack.

The Yud-Alef Stadium (Hebrew: אצטדיון הי"א, Etztadion HaYudAlef, lit. The 11 Stadium) is a football stadium in Ashdod, Israel, that was built for local football sides Maccabi Ashdod, Beitar Ashdod (both merged in 1981 to form Maccabi Ironi Ashdod) and Hapoel Ashdod (merged with Ironi Ashdod in 1999 to create F.C. Ashdod). The stadium was given the name "Yud-Alef" in 1973, after the eleven Israeli athletes murdered in the Munich massacre (Yud-Alef is used in Hebrew numerals used to represent the number 11). The naming ceremony took place on 17 July 1973, when the stadium hosted the final of the 1973 Maccabiah Games.There are four stands in the stadium which is not aesthetically pleasing. The stadium is also thought to be one of the few in the world where the home fans have fewer seats than the visitors. There are a total of 4,000 seats in gates three and four (set aside for visiting supporters). Gates one and two together hold only 3,420 giving the local side a disadvantage when a bigger club comes to town. In a recent article in Yedioth Ahronoth, it was found that the stadium was not built properly and is not safe. The only parts that were deemed safe were the locker rooms and showers. In January 2015 the stadium management unveiled a new a revamped VIP stand.On 29 August 2006 the fences surrounding the pitch were removed to make for better sightliness for visitors to the stadium.

'Arab Suqrir (Arabic: عرب صقرير) was a Palestinian Arab village in the Gaza Subdistrict, located 38 kilometers (24 mi) northeast of Gaza in a flat area with an elevation of 25 meters (82 ft) along the coastal plain just north of Isdud. The total land area of the village was 40,224 dunams, of which 12,270 was Arab-owned, while the remainder was public property. In 1931, it had a population of 530, decreasing to 390 in 1945. It was destroyed and depopulated during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War.

Ashdod (Hebrew: אַשְׁדּוֹד, romanized: ʾašdōḏ, pronounced [ʔaʃˈdod] ; Arabic: أسدود, romanized: ʾasdūd, pronounced [ʔasˈduːd], or إسدود, ʾisdūd [ʔɪsˈduːd]; Philistine: 𐤀𐤔𐤃𐤃‎, romanized: *ʾašdūd) is the sixth-largest city in Israel. Located in the country's Southern District, it lies on the Mediterranean coast 32 kilometres (20 miles) south of Tel Aviv and 20 km (12 mi) north of Ashkelon. The city was named after the historical town of Ashdod, located c.6 km southeast, which dates originally to the 17th century BCE as one of the five Philistine city-states. The ruins of Ashdod-Yam also lie on the coast to the southwest of the city center and adjacent to the city's expanding suburbs. Modern Ashdod was established in 1956 on the sand hills 6km northwest of the historical Ashdod, then known as Isdud, a Palestinian town which had been depopulated during the Nakba in 1948. It was incorporated as a city in 1968, with a land-area of approximately 60 square kilometres (23 sq mi). Being a planned city, expansion followed a main development plan, which facilitated traffic and prevented air pollution in the residential areas, despite population growth. According to the Israel Central Bureau of Statistics, Ashdod had a population of 225,975 in 2021, with an area of 47,242 dunams (47.242 km2; 18.240 sq mi).Ashdod is today a major Israeli city, and contains the largest port in Israel accounting for 60% of the country's imported goods. Ashdod today is home to the largest Moroccan and Karaite Jewish communities in Israel, and to the largest Georgian Jewish community in the world. It is also an important regional industrial center.

Amphi Ashdod is an open theater that is located in Ashdod-Yam Park, near the Arches Beach of Ashdod, Israel. Amphi Ashdod is one of Israel's largest open theaters with a capacity of 6,400 spectators. It contains 4,500 seats, a large grass area that can fit another 1,700 guests and a VIP section that can host 200 guests.The Amphi hosts Israeli and international concerts during the Summer and Spring. In addition, the Amphi hosts the annual international art festival "Méditerranée". The stage was designed like a shell with petals that open up. During the day, spectators can see the Mediterranean Sea while looking at the stage.

Adriatica was a bulk carrier that sank in the Mediterranean Sea on December 12, 2010.

The HaKirya Arena (Hebrew: היכל טוטו הקריה, Heyhal Toto HaKirya) is an indoor sporting arena located in Ashdod, Israel. The arena opened in 2000 and is home for the Maccabi Ashdod and Maccabi Bnot Ashdod basketball clubs. The arena has 1534 permanent seats and 666 seats in removable stands. For basketball games it has a capacity of 2,200, which is reduced to 1534 for handball matches. There are plans to build a 5,000-capacity arena near the "Lakhish park", In the north of the city.

The Ashdod Museum of Art is located in the center of Ashdod, Israel, near the marina. The museum holds exhibitions of Israeli and international contemporary art. The museum has 12 galleries and two halls. In addition, it has a pyramidal space where cultural events are held. The museum was inaugurated in 2003. The museum was officially recognized by the State of Israel only in 2009. One of museum's galleries – the Mishbetzet gallery – usually hosts original works by Israeli artists for children's education purposes. The visitors are encouraged to study works of art, including touching them. The Green Submarine gallery is dedicated to environmental art. The works exhibited in this gallery are made from recycled materials and readymades.The Ashdod Museum of Art is also known for having an underground vault for protecting art in case of rocket attacks. This vault was used during the 2014 Israel–Gaza conflict to protect works of the Israeli artist Tsibi Geva.

Ashdod Performing Arts Center is a performing arts venue located in Ashdod, Israel. The building was designed by Israeli architect Haim Dotan, who also designed Sami Shamoon College of Engineering in Beersheva.

Blue Marina in Ashdod is one of the newest marinas in Israel. It is located close to the city center in the middle of beach zone. The marina has berths for nearly 550 crafts. The surrounding area is being developed and will have hotels, restaurants, artificial lakes, and promenades. The Blue Marina is a center for sea sports as well. There are surfing, sailing, and diving schools located onsite.

The Eshkol Power Station is a power station supplying electrical power to the Shephelah region in Israel. It is located in north industrial zone of Ashdod near the mouth of the Lakhish River, close to the port of Ashdod and the Ashdod Oil Refineries which provided the plant with fuel oil prior to its conversion to use natural gas. The power station is also close to the sea since its cooling system uses sea water. Like other significant power stations in Israel, Eshkol Power Station belongs to Israel Electric Corporation. It is the third biggest power plant in Israel in terms of production ability, providing 7.3 percent of electricity production by IEC. The power station was named after Levi Eshkol, former Prime Minister of Israel.

Lakhish River (Hebrew: נחל לכיש, Naḥal Lakhish) is a river in Israel that flows into the Mediterranean Sea at the city of Ashdod. It is also known as Wadi Kabiba (inland section) and Wadi Sukhrir (Ashdod section) in Arabic.
