St Modwen's is a Church of England parish church situated in Burton upon Trent in Staffordshire, England. It is part of the Diocese of Lichfield. The church is dedicated to St Modwen, or Modwenna, a nun who founded an abbey at Burton in the 7th century. It replaced the remains of the church of Burton Abbey which was used by the town after the dissolution of the abbey.

Burton Abbey at Burton upon Trent in Staffordshire, England, was founded in the 7th or 9th century by St Modwen or Modwenna. It was refounded in 1003 as a Benedictine abbey by the thegn Wulfric Spott. He was known to have been buried in the abbey cloister in 1010, alongside the grave of his wife.

The 76 Club was a nightclub in Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire, England. During the 1970s and 1980s, the club featured appearances by well-known emerging rock bands. In 1976, the Sex Pistols recorded their live album Anarchy in the UK: Live at the 76 Club. Other bands that performed at the club include AC/DC, Dire Straits, Judas Priest, Motörhead, Skid Row, Suzi Quatro, Thin Lizzy, and Ultravox.

Finney's Post is part of an ornate mediaeval oak post, which came from a building at the corner of the Market Place and High Street, Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire, England. For a picture of it, see Legend has it that this post caused an apparently-dead woman (Mrs Albert Finney) to be brought back to life when her coffin crashed into the post.Mrs Finney lived in Clay's Lane, Stapenhill and was a baker's assistant. After the incident described in that reference, she became ill with consumption/TB and died at the age of 36 years. She was buried at Bretby churchyard. The post was formerly housed in the Burton Town Museum which closed around 1980. From then until 2007 it was on display at the Meadowside Leisure Centre in the town in a glass case. In July 2007 the post was supposedly "given away" to the Victoria and Albert Museum by the East Staffordshire Borough Council causing a furore in the town. Further investigation shows that the post had been purchased by the V and A in 1922 and then loaned back to Burton Town Museum. This was planned to have only been for a matter of months but for some reason the post remained in Burton until 2007. The "controversy" as reported in the local press was therefore not warranted. The post is now displayed in the Architecture Section of the V and A.

Dame Paulet's Almshouses were established by Dame Elizabeth Paulet near the marketplace of Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire in 1593 to provide accommodation and support for five elderly, poor women of the town. The almshouse ceased to be used for accommodation in 1871–72, with the women moved into new houses. The structure was afterwards used as a post office and weights and measures office before falling derelict. The remains were demolished in 1974 when Coopers Square shopping precinct was built. A doorway from the 1593 structure survives and is preserved in an external wall of Primark.

Stapenhill Gardens is a park in the Stapenhill neighbourhood of Burton-on-Trent, in England. It mainly comprises the former site of Stapenhill House, which was donated to the town in 1933, woodland, lawn, wild flower meadows and formal planted areas along a 1,250-metre (4,100 ft) stretch of the River Trent. A public space, it includes a large cement-rendered sculpture of a swan that has been described as a "Burton landmark".

The Burton upon Trent war memorial commemorates those from the town that were killed in the First and Second World Wars. The memorial was commissioned by the county borough of Burton upon Trent from sculptor Henry Charles Fehr shortly after the end of the First World War. The finished memorial was unveiled by William Legge, 6th Earl of Dartmouth on 2 August 1922. Its principal figure is that of Victory, standing atop a pedestal that is flanked by the smaller figures of Saint George and Peace. The memorial is a grade II* listed building.

The Malt Shovel is a 2001 sculpture by Andrew Hazell that stands on the corner of High Street and New Street in Burton upon Trent in England. It was commissioned by East Staffordshire Borough Council in 1998 and funded by a National Lottery grant. The sculpture is a representation of a shovel used for malting, part of the brewery process that dominated the town's history. The stainless-steel sculpture stands 9 metres (30 ft) tall and has a bottle-shaped opening in the blade through which people can walk. The sculpture was unveiled amid local controversy over its accuracy and site.

The Battle of Burton Bridge was fought between Royalist and Parliamentarian forces at Burton upon Trent on 4 July 1643 during the First English Civil War. By the time of the battle, the town, which had at various times been held by both sides, was garrisoned by a Parliamentarian unit under the command of Captain Thomas Sanders and the town's military governor, Colonel Richard Houghton. The key river crossing at Burton was desired by Queen Henrietta Maria, who was proceeding southwards from Yorkshire with a convoy of supplies destined for King Charles I at Oxford. The Royalists, led by Colonel Thomas Tyldesley, launched a cavalry charge across the bridge which succeeded in defeating the Parliamentarians and capturing most of their officers, including Sanders and Houghton. The Queen's convoy proceeded on its way south to Oxford, with Tyldesley receiving a knighthood and a promotion in recognition of his victory. Burton changed hands several more times during the course of the war, before finally coming under Parliamentarian control in 1646.

The 1322 Battle of Burton Bridge was fought between Thomas, 2nd Earl of Lancaster and his cousin King Edward II of England during the Despenser War. Edward's army was proceeding northwards to engage Lancaster, having defeated his Marcher Lord allies in Wales. Lancaster fortified the bridge at Burton upon Trent, an important crossing of the River Trent, in an attempt to prevent the King from proceeding. Edward arrived at nearby Cauldwell on 7 March 1322 and intended to use the ford at Walton-on-Trent to cross the river and outflank Lancaster. Edward was delayed for three days by floodwaters, during which time some of his force was deployed opposite Lancaster's men at the bridge. On 10 March 1322 Edward's main force crossed the river at Walton and proceeded to the south side of Burton. Lancaster moved his men outside the town, intending to face the King in open battle, but withdrew northwards when he saw that he was heavily outnumbered. Lancaster was pursued closely by the King's men and eventually captured at the Battle of Boroughbridge; he was later executed on the King's orders. Lancaster's defeat removed the immediate threat to Edward's rule, but the King continued to prove unpopular with his barons, and in 1327 was forced to abdicate the throne in favour of his son Edward III.

Burton & South Derbyshire College (BSDC) is a general further education college and is situated in Burton upon Trent town centre. It attracts approximately 13,000 students from Burton and the surrounding towns and villages. It delivers a wide range of courses for all ages including 16- to 19-year-olds, adults into part-time study, employer training and higher education. Recently a 'university centre' has been developed within the college to enable students to study on franchised higher education courses, but is not in itself a university. The University of Wolverhampton's School of Health and Wellbeing has a presence at Burton Health Education Centre located at the Queen's Hospital, Burton upon Trent, which specialises in nursing. In early 2011 the college was renamed from "Burton College".

The Burton Cooper is a 1977 statue by James Walter Butler currently located in Coopers Square shopping centre, Burton upon Trent. The statue commemorates the close connection of the town to the trade, which was key to Burton's brewing industry. Originally situated outdoors, the statue was relocated inside the centre when it was refurbished in 1994.
