East Kent is a planned unitary authority area in Kent, England. It is planned to be formed on 1 April 2028. The largest settlement will be Margate and it will also include Broadstairs, Canterbury, Deal, Dover, Ramsgate, Herne Bay and Whitstable. It will be formed from the Canterbury, Dover and Thanet districts. The district will include Canterbury Cathedral (a World Heritage Site) and the Dover to Kingsdown Cliffs, including the White Cliffs of Dover. Bounded by the sea on three sides, it will only border one other district: Mid Kent. Canterbury, Herne Bay, Margate and Whitstable are currently unparished, the rest of the area is parished. The area has a 2024 estimated population of 424,559.
