Whitchurch, Herefordshire

Whitchurch was a rural district in Herefordshire, England from 1894 to 1931. It was formed under the Local Government Act 1894 from that part of the Monmouth rural sanitary district which was in Herefordshire (the Gloucestershire part becoming part of the West Dean Rural District, the Monmouthshire part the Monmouth Rural District). It consisted of the following parishes: Ganarew Garway Llanrothal Welsh Bicknor Welsh Newton WhitchurchThe district was abolished in 1931 under a County Review Order. It was combined with the Ross Rural District to make the Ross and Whitchurch Rural District.

Symonds Yat is a village in the Wye Valley and a popular tourist destination, straddling the River Wye in the English county of Herefordshire, close to the Gloucestershire border. It is within a few miles of Monmouthshire and the Welsh border. The two settlements either side of the river are known as Symonds Yat (West) and Symonds Yat (East) and are linked by a footbridge and passenger ferries. Nearby is Symonds Yat Rock. The Seven Sisters Rocks are an outcrop of rocks forming cliffs above the Wye at Symonds Yat.

The Garren Brook is a small river in Herefordshire, England which rises beneath the eastern slopes of Garway Hill. It flows east to the hamlet of Orcop where it turns south, taking a series of incised meanders past St Weonards before turning east again, then south past Llangarron, again in a series of incised meanders. Southeast of there it enters the right bank of the River Wye at Old Forge. Its largest tributary is the left bank stream known as The Gamber which enters it at Trehumfrey north of Llangarron, having originated on the north side of Orcop Hill. Other right bank tributaries include the Llantywaun and Llanerch brooks. It flows over a landscape formed in the mudstones and sandstones of the St Maughans and Brownstones formations of the Old Red Sandstone.

Symonds Yat Rapids are a grade-2 man-made feature on the River Wye, near Symonds Yat on the Gloucestershire and Herefordshire border. They are most commonly used by canoeists and kayakers for whitewater training and playboating.

Symonds Yat railway station is a disused railway station on the Ross and Monmouth Railway constructed on the banks of the River Wye in Symonds Yat East.

King Arthur's Cave is a limestone cave at the foot of a low cliff at the north-western end of Lord's Wood in The Doward, near Symonds Yat, Herefordshire, about four miles northeast of Monmouth, in the Wye Valley. The cave entrance lies about 285 feet above the River Wye on a hill, with a double interconnected entrance and two main chambers. It is protected as a nature reserve under the Herefordshire Nature Trust. There is evidence that the cave was occupied by man during the Upper Palaeolithic era, and flint tools and woolly mammoth bones have been unearthed within and around the caves.

Marstow is a hamlet and civil parish in south eastern Herefordshire, England. Most of the parish is within the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The Doward (Welsh: Deuarth Fach, lit. "two small hills"), is an area in the parish of Whitchurch in south Herefordshire, England, consisting of the hills of Little Doward and Great Doward and extensive woodland. It is within the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, on the border with Monmouthshire, Wales. The area, about 3 miles (4.8 km) north-east of Monmouth, is shrouded in legend and King Arthur's Cave is in the vicinity.

Upper Wye Gorge is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), noted for its biological and geological characteristics, around Symonds Yat in the Wye Valley on the Wales–England border. The site is listed in the 'Forest of Dean Local Plan Review' as a Key Wildlife Site (KWS).

Biblins Bridge is a footbridge which crosses the River Wye between Ross-on-Wye and Monmouth. The present structure dates from 1957, although there has been a crossing at this point since the early 20th century.

Lady Park Wood National Nature Reserve (grid reference SO546144) is a 45-hectare (110-acre) nature reserve straddling the borders of Gloucestershire in England and Monmouthshire in Wales. Most of the wood is in Wales – where it forms Wales' easternmost point – but it is managed under agreement with Natural England.The wood is in the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is part of the Upper Wye Gorge Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and the River Wye Special Area of Conservation (SAC). The site is owned by the Forestry Commission and access is on recognised rights of way. Permits are needed to access non-public areas. The wood has been a research location for some time as unmanaged woodland and is a prime woodland conservation area. It is notable as being the easternmost point of Wales. The wood take its name from the estate to which it formerly belonged, which was built up chiefly between about 1580 and 1650 by the Hall family of the now demolished High Meadow House. The woods were inherited by Viscount Gage in 1719 and purchased by the Crown in 1817. There is a gated small cave (part mine) in the wood, located near the Biblins campsite.

Rocklands House near Goodrich, Herefordshire, England, is a building of historical significance and is Grade II listed on the English Heritage Register. It was built in the 1700s, and substantial additions were made in 1800. It was the home of many notable people over the next two centuries.
