Dillingen an der Donau

The University of Dillingen, at Dillingen an der Donau in southern Germany, existed from 1551 to 1803. It was located in Swabia, then a district of Bavaria.

The Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul (German: Basilika SS. Peter und Paul ) also called Dillingen Basilica is a Catholic church located in Dillingen, Germany, which serves as basilica and co-cathedral of the diocese of Augsburg. The three-nave church was built in the years 1619-1628 by court architect Hans Alberthal on the foundations of the earlier churches dating from the thirteenth and fifteenth centuries. The church is 54.8 meters long, 22.3 meters high and 22 meters wide. Due to the damages suffered during the Thirty Years' War, in 1643 its structure was renewed. With the addition of the tower in 1669, the church reached 49 meters in height. After the dissolution of the monastery in 1803 the church became a parish church and in 1979 the church was elevated to the dignity of a minor basilica by Pope John Paul II.

Lauingen (Swabian: Lauinga) is a town in the district of Dillingen in Bavaria, Germany. It is located on the left bank of the Danube, 5 km west of Dillingen, and 37 km northeast of Ulm. In June 1800, the armies of the French First Republic, under command of Jean Victor Moreau, fought Habsburg regulars and Württemberg contingents, under the general command of Pál Kray. Kray had taken refuge in the fortress at Ulm; Moreau diverted his army to approach Ulm from the east. Kray had ordered preparation for the destruction of all the bridges across the Danube, including the one at Lauingen. A small group of French captured a foothold on the northern bank of the Danube by Grensheim, and Moreau's forces were able to move against the fortress on both sides of the river. At this battle, the culmination of the Danube Campaign of 1800, Moreau forced Kray to abandon Ulm and withdraw into eastern Bavaria.

The Brenz (German pronunciation: [bʁɛnt͡s] ) is a river in Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria, Germany. It is a left tributary of the Danube. Its source is at a spring in the town of Königsbronn and it flows for 52 kilometers before meeting the Danube at Lauingen, a few kilometers west of Dillingen. It flows through the towns of Königsbronn, Heidenheim an der Brenz, Giengen and Lauingen.

Echenbrunn Abbey (German: Kloster Echenbrunn) was a Benedictine monastery located at Echenbrunn, now part of Gundelfingen an der Donau in Bavaria, Germany. Dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul, the monastery was founded in 1122 by Gumbert von Flochberg, a local noble. It was dissolved in 1556 by order of Otto Henry, Elector Palatine. In 1672 the Jesuits from Dillingen built a summer residence on the site, which later became the property of the Order of Saint John. The present structure on the site is a parish priest's house with a gabled roof built in 1732. The enclosure wall and its gateway with a pointed arch appear to date from the 16th century.

The Gundremmingen Nuclear Power Plant was a nuclear power station in Germany. It was located in Gundremmingen, district of Günzburg, Bavaria. It was operated by Kernkraftwerk Gundremmingen GmbH, a joint operation of RWE Power AG (75%) and PreussenElektra (25%). Unit B was shut down at the end of 2017. Unit C, the last boiling water reactor in Germany, was shut down on New Year's Eve 2021, as part of the German nuclear phase out. However, Gundremmingen unit C as well as the other two German nuclear reactors shut down that day (Brokdorf and Grohnde) remain capable of restarting operations as of March 2022. In November 1975, Unit A was the site of the first fatal accident in a nuclear power plant and subsequently of a major incident resulting in a total loss in 1977.
