De Soto High School (Kansas)

De Soto USD 232 is a public unified school district headquartered in De Soto, Kansas, United States. The district includes the communities of De Soto, 60% of Shawnee, 40% of Lenexa, fraction of Olathe, and nearby rural areas.

The Highway 2 Bridge is an automobile and pedestrian crossing of the Kansas River on the border of Johnson and Leavenworth Counties in De Soto. The current bridge was built in 1964. A girder bridge, it is the only bridge over the river for a span of 21 miles, as Linwood's bridge is 10 miles west and Shawnee's K-7 Highway Bridge is 11 miles to the east. The bridge runs concurrent with Leavenworth County Highway 2 and S. Wyandotte Street. The two lane bridge has a span of 1,670 feet[1] and was opened in 1965, built at a cost of $600,000. It was designed to be at least three feet higher than the levels reached in the Great Flood of 1951. Its predecessor bridge was damaged by flood circa. 1895, reopened in 1937, then collapsed after a U.S. Army truck weighed more than the maximum supported wight in 1956, reopened again in 1959 before being damaged beyond use by ice in January 1962. After repairs, the current bridge opened in 1964.

The Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant was a smokeless powder and propellant manufacturing facility in De Soto within Johnson County, Kansas. Constructed after the attack on Pearl Harbor pushed the United States into World War II, it was the largest ammunition plant in the world during operation. At the time of operations, the plant was located in northwest unincorporated Johnson County, Kansas, owned by the United States Government, and operated under contract, primarily by Hercules Aerospace Company. In 2005, the U.S. Army transferred the former plant site to the Sunflower Redevelopment Group; in 2022, over 6,000 acres of the site were annexed into De Soto.

Linwood is a city in Leavenworth County, Kansas, United States, and part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 415. It is located along K-32 highway between Lawrence and Bonner Springs.

Basehor-Linwood High School is a public high school (grades 9-12) located in Basehor, Kansas and is part of the Basehor-Linwood Unified School District 458. It is the only high school operated by the district. It was formed by merging Linwood High School into Basehor High School.

The bridge runs concurrent with Leavenworth County's County Road 1 and Douglas County's County Road 1061 and the city of Eudora is just south of the bridge. The two lane bridge has a span of 1,360 feet and was opened in 1965, built at a cost of $746,000. It was designed to be at least three feet higher than the levels reached in the Great Flood of 1951.Its predecessor bridge was damaged by ice in 1935 and reopened in 1937, then damaged beyond use by ice in January 1962.
