Parforceheide

The Stern Hunting Lodge in Potsdam was built between 1730 and 1732 under the reign of the Soldier King Frederick William I in the style of a simple Dutch town house. The contract for the construction was probably awarded to Cornelius van den Bosch, a grenadier and master carpenter from Holland, and the building was supervised by Pierre de Gayette, Captain of the Corps of Engineers and Court Architect. At the time of its construction, the building, which was only designed for hunting trips, stood at the center of an extensive area that had been developed for par force hunts since 1726 with the construction of a star-shaped system of tracks. The area converted for this hunt was given the name Parforceheide. Today, it stands between the 115 highway to the east and a new district built into the Parforceheide from 1970 to 1980 to the west, on the edge of the Potsdam district of Stern. Following the destruction of the city palace, the Stern hunting lodge is now the oldest surviving palace building in Potsdam. It is managed and maintained by the Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation Berlin-Brandenburg with the voluntary support of the Stern-Parforceheide Hunting Lodge Association.

Steinstücken (German: [ˈʃtaɪ̯nˌʃtʏkŋ̍] (listen), literally "Stone Pieces"), a small settlement with approximately 200 inhabitants, is the southernmost territory of the Berlin borough of Steglitz-Zehlendorf, belonging to Wannsee. From the division of Germany in 1949 until a connecting corridor was created in 1971–72, Steinstücken was the only permanently inhabited of twelve original exclaves of West Berlin in East Germany, while West Berlin itself was an enclave controlled by the Western Allies, surrounded either by East Berlin or East German (GDR) territory.

The Hasso Plattner Institute (Hasso-Plattner-Institut für Digital Engineering gGmbH), abbreviated HPI, is a German information technology institute and faculty of the University of Potsdam located in Potsdam near Berlin. The teaching and research of HPI are focused on "IT-Systems Engineering". HPI was founded in 1998 and is the first, and as of 2018 the only entirely privately funded faculty in Germany. It is financed entirely through private funds donated by billionaire Hasso Plattner, who co-founded the software company SAP SE, and is currently the chairman of SAP's supervisory board. Director and CEO of HPI is Christoph Meinel.

Griebnitzsee (German: [ˈɡʁiːpnɪtsˌzeː] (listen)) is a lake at the south-western outskirts of Berlin, the capital city of Germany. At an elevation of 29.4 m, its surface area is ca. 0.592 km². The lake forms the border between the German states of Berlin and Brandenburg. It is bordered in the north by the Wannsee district of Berlin, and in the south and west by the Babelsberg district of Potsdam in Brandenburg.

Potsdam-Griebnitzsee station is an S-Bahn station in Potsdam on the outskirts of Berlin in the German state of Brandenburg. The station is located in the east of the Babelsberg suburb of the city of Potsdam in the state of Brandenburg, and about 600 metres (2,000 ft) outside the Berlin city boundary. It takes its name from the adjacent Griebnitzsee lake. It is on the Wannsee Railway. During the division of Germany, it served as a border station for traffic to West Berlin. The station is now served by trains on line S7 of the Berlin S-Bahn and Regionalbahn services RB 21 and RB 22. It is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 4 station.A historic rectifier to the east of the station building now houses the Berlin S-Bahn Museum. Nearby are the University of Potsdam and the Hasso Plattner Institute.

The Griebnitz Canal (German: Griebnitzkanal, pronounced [ˈɡʁiːpnɪts.kaˌnaːl] (listen)), formerly known as the Prinz-Friedrich-Leopold-Kanal, is a canal in the western suburbs of Berlin, the capital city of Germany. It consists of a chain of small lakes: the Stölpchensee (German: [ˈʃtœlpçn̩ˌzeː] (listen)), Pohlesee (IPA: [ˈpoːləˌzeː]), and Kleiner Wannsee (IPA: [ˈklaɪnɐ ˈvanˌzeː] (listen)), together with artificial channels linking them together.The canal connects the Griebnitzsee, a lake on the course of the Teltow Canal, with the Großer Wannsee, a lake on the course of the River Havel. Including the three intermediate lakes, it has a length of 3.9 kilometres (2.4 mi) and is navigable by boats with a draught of up to 1.3 metres (4 ft 3 in). It has no locks, but is crossed by three bridges, with a maximum clearance of 5 metres (16 ft).

Potsdam Medienstadt Babelsberg station is a station on the Berlin–Blankenheim railway located in the east of the Potsdam district of Drewitz near Babelsberg, the historic center of the German film industry, and the former West Berlin exclave of Steinstücken. The station's DS-100 code is BDW and its station’s numerical code is 5013. It is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 5 station. The station was opened on 15 May 1879 with the name of Drewitz. It was a freight border crossing point from East Germany to West Berlin from 1949 to 1990. Numerous safety devices were installed for this purpose such as special points that would prevent an unauthorized movement of a locomotive towards Berlin-Wannsee in the American sector of Berlin. This meant that some sets of points would cause trains making unauthorized movements to derail. After the reunification of Germany, an ICE connecting train ran from Berlin Zoologischer Garten through Drewitz station to Michendorf as electrification had not been completed on any line from the west to Berlin. On 28 May 2000, the station’s name was changed to the current name in order to emphasize its proximity to the Babelsberg Media City (Medienstadt), including Babelsberg Studio. The entire building is under heritage protection.

Stolpe is a historic village in the western suburbs of Berlin, the capital city of Germany. It is situated in the locality of Wannsee, in the borough of Steglitz-Zehlendorf. Stolpe has a documented history going back to 1299. At the western side of Stolpe is located the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin.

Babelsberg Film Studio (German: Filmstudio Babelsberg), located in Potsdam-Babelsberg outside Berlin, Germany, is the oldest large-scale film studio in the world, producing films since 1912. With a total area of about 460,000 square metres (5,000,000 sq ft) and a studio area of about 25,000 square metres (270,000 sq ft) it is Europe's largest film studio.Hundreds of films, including Fritz Lang's Metropolis and Josef von Sternberg's The Blue Angel were filmed there. More recent productions include V for Vendetta, Captain America: Civil War, Æon Flux, The Bourne Ultimatum, Valkyrie, Inglourious Basterds, Cloud Atlas, The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Hunger Games, Isle of Dogs and The Matrix Resurrections. Today, Studio Babelsberg remains operational mainly for feature film productions. It also acts as producer on German productions and co-producer on international high-budget productions. Since January 2022 it has been owned by TPG Real Estate Partners (TREP) and Filmbetriebe Berlin Brandenburg GmbH (FBB), and promoted as part of the platform Cinespace Film Studios.

The Japanische Internationale Schule zu Berlin e.V. (ベルリン日本人国際学校, Berurin Nihonjin Kokusai Gakkō) is a Japanese international school (nihonjin gakkō) located in the Wannsee area of Steglitz-Zehlendorf, Berlin, Germany.The fourth nihonjin gakkō in Germany, the school opened in 1993.

Wannsee (German pronunciation: [ˈvanˌzeː] (listen)) is a locality in the southwestern Berlin borough of Steglitz-Zehlendorf, Germany. It is the westernmost locality of Berlin. In the quarter there are two lakes, the larger Großer Wannsee (Greater Wannsee) and the Kleiner Wannsee (Little Wannsee), are located on the River Havel and are separated only by the Wannsee Bridge. The larger of the two lakes covers an area of 2.7 km2 (1.0 sq mi) and has a maximum depth of 9 m (30 ft).

Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie (Helmholtz Centre for Materials and Energy, HZB) is part of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres. The institute studies the structure and dynamics of materials and investigates solar cell technology. It also runs the third-generation BESSY II synchrotron in Adlershof. Until the end of 2019 it ran the 10 megawatt BER II nuclear research reactor at the Lise Meitner campus in Wannsee.
