Tottington Hall

Tottington is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Bury in Greater Manchester, England, on the edge of the West Pennine Moors.Historically in Lancashire, it was a medieval fee, a type of royal manor, which encompassed several townships from Musbury and Cowpe with Lench in the north to Affetside in the west and Walshaw in the south west, while the township of Tottington itself was a small agricultural settlement surrounded by open farmland and hunting ground where deer and wild boar were found.

Tottington Railway station served the town of Tottington in Greater Manchester (then Lancashire), England. It opened in 1882 and continued to serve passengers until the line closed to passengers in 1952 and freight in 1963.

Tottington High School is a coeducational secondary school located in Tottington, Bury, England. The school opened in 1955. Previously a community school administered by Bury Metropolitan Borough Council, in November 2018 Tottington High School converted to academy status. The school is now sponsored by the Shaw Education Trust.

Kirklees Valley Local Nature Reserve is a nature reserve in the Metropolitan Borough of Bury, that stretches from Greenmount in the north, Bury in the south, and Tottington in the west. It was declared a nature reserve in October 2010 under the 1949 National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act.The nature reserve contains numerous footpaths, lodges and landmarks, as well as farmland and historic mill sites.

Walshaw is a village forming part of the Metropolitan Borough of Bury, in Greater Manchester, England. It’s to the south of Tottington and 2 miles northwest of Bury.Walshaw lies around the top of Walshaw Road and the memorial cross and three radiating streets slightly to the North. One third of the centre of the village is taken up by Christ Church Primary School, which is linked to Christ Church on High Street.

Kirklees Brook is a minor river in Greater Manchester, England. It is 6.56 miles (10.556 km) long and including tributaries has a catchment area of 5.23 square miles (13.547 km2).Kirklees Brook springs from the slopes of Holcombe Moor at Grainings on the modern boundary with Lancashire, north of Hawkshaw, flowing south. At Brookhouse Mill between Greenmount and Tottington there are a number of small connected reservoirs. It is known as Woodhill Brook for a short stretch before joining the River Irwell in the Woodhill area of Bury.

Christ Church (grid reference SD775116) is a church in Walshaw, Greater Manchester, England, and is a Grade II* listed building. Designed in the Gothic Revival style by Lawrence Booth in 1888, the building was funded by Rev John Gorrell Haworth and Miss Nancy Haworth, and took four years to complete. It was erected as a memorial to Manchester cotton and fustian manufacturer Jesse Haworth, as noted prominently across the west facade of the building. The church is large, with an especially wide nave and has an "admirable" steeple at its southeast corner, visible from the town of Bury in the valley below. The nave is crossed by two broad transepts, each two bays wide. Interior columns are of granite with shaft rings and in places the arcades feature double rows of columns. The windows are in the Gothic style but, as Pevsner notes, they have "un-Gothic transoms."Internally, the church features a fine circular font, encrusted with stiff-leaf decoration.The churchyard contains war graves of three soldiers and two airmen of World War II.Christ Church has connections with the local community, including the church primary school and the local day nursery, and actively supports local voluntary secular and Christian mission agencies including Porch Boxes food bank, Street Pastors, and the Message. The parish also engages in national and international ministry through its support and partnership with 'Tearfund', the 'Bible Society', 'Musalaha': ministry of reconciliation, 'Compassion' and 'The Bury Project: Christians Against Poverty'.Rev Steven Openshaw FdA BA MSc has been Priest in Charge of the Parish of Christ Church Walshaw since February 2016.

The Elton High School is a mixed secondary school located on Walshaw Road to the north-west of Bury town centre in Greater Manchester. The Elton High School was recognised as "Good" school with "Outstanding" features by Ofsted following inspection in 2009. The English Department was inspected in November 2010 and it was found that the overall effectiveness of English within the school was "Outstanding". In February 2015, the school was graded "requires improvement" in all areas. The school was most recently graded "Good" following an Ofsted inspection in January 2017. The original school building was opened in 1954. Construction of a new building on the same site began in summer 2015 and opened to pupils in September 2016. It was constructed as part of a nationwide plan to replace the schools in poorest condition.
