Sölden

The 2009 Schalfkogel avalanche was an avalanche which occurred in Sölden, Austria, on 2 May 2009. Six people were killed, five Czechs and one Slovak, when the disaster struck in the 3,500-metre (11,500 ft) Schalfkogel mountain range. The corpses were discovered to have been frozen upon recovery. It was the deadliest avalanche to have occurred in Austria since March 2000. Although avalanches are a regular occurrence in the region, they mainly kill individuals as opposed to entire groups.

The Berghof Sölden is a residence and former farmstead in Sölden, Austria. The building is one of the original farmsteads in the Sölden region.

The Hintere Bachofenspitze in the Karwendel mountains of Tyrol is 2,668 metres (8,753 ft) high and forms the northernmost point of the parish of Thaur in the Inn Valley. Since the erection of a summit cross, that was set up in October 2003 by Franz Brunner and Fritz Gostner, this summit has enjoyed growing popularity.

The Wilde Leck is a mountain, 3,361 m (AA), in the Stubai Alps in the Austrian state of Tyrol. It rises immediately west of the Sulztalferner glacier and towers above the Ötztal valley, 5.5 km northwest of Sölden. It has a rocky summit made of solid granite and prominent arêtes. In the Stubai Alps the Wilde Leck is one of the most difficult summits to climb, because its easiest route runs initially over glaciers and then up a rock face that is assessed as climbing grade III (UIAA). Just north of the Wilde Leck ("Wild Leck") is the Zahme Leck ("Tame Leck", 3,226 m above sea level (AA)).

The Stubaier Wildspitze is a 3,341-metre-high mountain in the Stubai Alps in the Austrian state of Tyrol. Northeast of the summit lie two glaciers, the Schaufelferner and the Daunkogelferner, which form the basis for the Stubai Glacier ski region. The first documented ascent by tourists was in 1882 by E. v. Fuchs, M. Egger and Josef Pfurtscheller.

Timmelsjoch (Italian: Passo del Rombo), (elevation 2,474 metres (8,117 ft)) is a high mountain pass that creates a link through the Ötztal Alps along the border between Austria and Italy. The Timmelsjoch connects the Ötztal valley in the Austrian state of Tyrol to the Passeier Valley in the Italian province of South Tyrol, as it bridges the saddle point between the Jochköpfl (3,141 metres (10,305 ft)) and Wurmkogl (3,082 metres (10,112 ft)) peaks to its northeast and southwest, respectively. The pass is sometimes called the "secret passage" because it is little-used compared to the much easier and lower Brenner Pass some 25 kilometres (16 mi) to its east, and Reschen Pass some 60 kilometres (37 mi) to its west.

The Jochköpfl is a mountain, 3,143 m (AA), on the Windach-Brunnenkogel-Kamm, a subgroup of the Stubai Alps in Austria.

The Schaufelspitze is a mountain, 3,332 m (AA), in the Stubai Alps in the Austrian state of Tyrol. Its summit is easily accessible to experienced mountaineers from the top station of the Stubai Glacier lift on the Schaufeljoch (also Isidornieder) at 3,158 m west of the peak. Other ascents are the North Arête (UIAA grade III) and the Northeast Arête (also grade III). The route taken by the first climbers was a grade II and ran from the Schaufelnieder (Fernaujoch), in the southeast, to the summit.

The Schrankogel, 3497 m (called the Schrankogl on the AV map) is the second highest mountain in the Stubai Alps. The northeast side of the Schrankogel is steep and snowy; from all other sides the Schrankogel has a rocky character.

The Zuckerhütl is a mountain in Tyrol, Austria. At 3,505 metres (11,499 feet), it is the highest peak of the Stubai Alps and lies at the southern end of the Stubaital Valley. It derives its name, the German for sugarloaf, from its conical shape. In nearby Italy it is known as Pan di Zùcchero, the Italian term for sugarloaf. On the mountain's north face the huge Sulzenauferner glacier falls 1,000m from its summit, resembling an icefall which looks unclimbable without ladders. It is the views of this great glacier which give Zuckerhütl its name. On its south face a 500m high cliff drops down from the summit.

At 3,474 m (AA) the Ruderhofspitze is the fourth highest mountain in the Stubai Alps in Austria. It is part of the Alpein Mountains (Alpeiner Berge) and lies in the Austrian state of Tyrol. As a result of its topographic isolation and good all-round views it is one of the most visited mountains in the Stubai. An almost two-kilometre-long arête, the Grawawand, runs away from the summit to the east. Less prominent ridges run south and northwestwards from the Ruderhofspitze. The peak was first ascended on 30 August 1864 by Karl Baedeker (the son of Karl Baedeker), Anton von Ruthner and mountain guides Pankraz Gleinser and Alois Tanzer.

The Wilder Pfaff is a mountain in the Stubai Alps on the border between Tyrol, Austria, and South Tyrol, Italy.
