Lyle Hill stands at the West End of Greenock in Inverclyde, Scotland. It has scenic viewpoints accessible from Lyle Road, which was constructed in 1879–1880 and named after Provost Abram Lyle, well known as a sugar refiner. The hill's highest point is Craigs Top at 426 feet (130 m) above sea level, and before the road was constructed the hill was known as the Craigs, or as the Bingens (with various spellings). Adjacent to the highest point of the road, a scenic viewpoint looks out over Gourock and the Firth of Clyde to Cowal in the west, and north over the Fort Matilda area of Greenock to Argyll across the Clyde. There are benches, information points, and a beacon which is lit on significant occasions. Car parking spaces give views to the west, and a short distance further down the road the Free French Memorial is in the shape of the Cross of Lorraine combined with an anchor. Across the road, steps and a rough path lead up to a viewpoint at Craigs Top with views up the River Clyde as far as Glasgow.

Fort Matilda railway station lies at the far western edge of the town of Greenock, Scotland. It is a non-staffed station, and is the last stop before the terminus of Gourock railway station on the Inverclyde Line out of Glasgow Central station.

Fort Matilda is a suburb at the far western edge of Greenock, Scotland. Its name comes from a coastal battery built on Whiteforeland Point 1814–1819 to defend the River Clyde.

The Iona was Scottish-built paddle steamer, purchased by Confederate agents for use as a blockade runner during the American Civil War. Following a collision with Chanticleer she sunk in the Upper Clyde near Fort Matilda in October 1862. The wreck, which lies around 27 m below chart datum, is now designated as a Historic Marine Protected Area by Historic Environment Scotland.

The Greenock Academy was a mixed non-denominational school in the west end of Greenock, Scotland, founded in 1855, originally independent, later a grammar school with a primary department, and finally a Comprehensive school only for ages eleven to eighteen. On 24 June 2011, Greenock Academy closed after a history spanning 156 years. Between 2012 and 2015, the school became the filming location of BBC One's school drama Waterloo Road.

The lands of Finnart to the west of Greenock belonged to the Earl of Douglas in medieval times. Around 1455 they were forfeited to the crown. Finnart was given to the Hamiltons, while the western part of the barony of Finnart went to Stewart of Castlemilk and became the barony of Finnart-Stewart, or Gourock. Sir James Hamilton of Finnart inherited the barony and rose to high office, but was beheaded and his estates forfeited, with his Finnart lands going to Shaw of Sauchie and Greenock. These estates subsequently became the west end of Greenock. The northern part of the Finnart-Stewart estates forms the main part of modern Gourock, while the remainder now accommodates the housing estates of south-west Greenock.

Glenpark Cricket Ground is a cricket ground in Greenock, Scotland. The first recorded match held on the ground came in 1869 when Greenock played the Players of Scotland. Scotland played their first first-class match there in 1926 against Ireland. The ground held five further first-class matches, the last of which saw Scotland play Ireland in 1972. Five of the first-class matches played there were between Scotland and Ireland, while another was between Scotland and the Marylebone Cricket Club.The ground is still in use today by Greenock Cricket Club.

St Columba's High School is a co-educational six-year Roman Catholic, comprehensive secondary school, located next to Tower Hill Gourock, Inverclyde, Scotland. The school serves south west Greenock, Gourock, Inverkip and Wemyss Bay. The current enrolment (2018) is 682 pupils. The school won the Platinum Award in Enterprise Inverclyde Standards and Quality Report 2005/2006. The school also received top marks from the last visit by Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Education. It is also the first school in Inverclyde to receive Charter Mark status, for providing outstanding customer service.

Clydeview Academy is a non-denominational secondary school situated in Gourock, Inverclyde. It was founded in 2011 and opened to pupils on 17 August 2011. The first head teacher of the school was William Todd. The school is a modern merger of two secondary schools from the local area, Greenock Academy and Gourock High School which both closed at the end of the 2010 summer term. The school is founded on the old site of St. Columbas High School, Gourock which is known as the Bayhill site. The feeder schools are: Greenock; Ardgowan Primary School, Gourock; Moorfoot Primary School and Gourock Primary School.

Greenock West, also known simply as the West End, is an area of Greenock, Inverclyde, Scotland. The streets are in a grid like layout referred to as blocks as opposed to the irregular street patterns elsewhere in the town. Union Street is the longest before it cuts off into Newark Street. Greenock Academy was located at the far end of Brisbane Street on Madeira Street in the west end, and numerous churches exist within the west end, such as Ardgowan, St Luke's, Old West Kirk, St John's, St George's North, Finnart St Paul's as well as many smaller independent churches. Also located on Finnart Street is the James Watt College. Greenock West railway station lies at the border between the west end and the town centre. Fort Matilda railway station is located at the other edge of the West End, at the foot of the Lyle Hill, near where Gourock begins. In the middle is the famous Tontine Hotel at one end of the green Ardgowan Square with the Ardgowan Bowling Club and two tennis courts and Ardgowan Square Evangelical Church at the other end. The West End is also host to 'Glenpark': home of the 2002 SNCL champions, Greenock Cricket Club. The ground has been credited as one of the most pleasant to play at in the country, and has a slight slope from the East to West end of the field. The club also operates Junior and Lower-league teams under the Greenock or Glenpark XI name, and has full clubhouse facilities. As well as the current railway line, a former rail link led towards Princes Pier, now home to the new Ocean Terminal, where large ocean cruisers and container ships are re-supplied.

HMP Greenock is a prison located in Greenock, Scotland, serving designated courts in western Scotland by holding male prisoners on remand, and short-term convicted prisoners. It also provides a national facility for selected prisoners serving 12 years or over, affording them the opportunity for progression towards release. It also accommodates a small number of female prisoners ranging from remand to long-term. Although officially labelled as HMP Greenock, it continues to be known by its original name Gateside Prison.

St John the Evangelist's Church, Greenock, is located in Union Street, Greenock, Inverclyde, Scotland. It is an active Anglican church in the Scottish Episcopal Church. It is designated by Historic Environment Scotland as a Category B listed building.
