Nancy Cathedral (French: Cathédrale Notre-Dame-de-l’Annonciation et Saint-Sigisbert; Cathedral of Our Lady of the Annunciation and St. Sigisbert) is a Roman Catholic church located in the town of Nancy, Lorraine, France. It was erected in the 18th century. The cathedral is in the Baroque architectural style. It is a national monument and the seat of the Bishop of Nancy and Toul.

The Diocese of Nancy and Toul (Latin: Dioecesis Nanceiensis et Tullensis; French: Diocèse de Nancy et de Toul) is a Latin Church ecclesiastical territory or diocese of the Catholic Church in France. After a considerable political struggle between Louis XV, Louis XVI, and the Dukes of Lorraine, the diocese was erected by Pope Pius VI on 17 December 1777. The Diocese of Nancy is a suffragan diocese in the ecclesiastical province of the metropolitan Archdiocese of Besançon.

The covered market, or central market in Nancy, is located on Charles III square, at the heart of the New Town of Nancy, between the Saint-Dizier street and the Quatre-Eglises street. There are around sixty merchants and fifteen greengorcers who gather in the market building. It is one of the most important markets for the recognition of the lorraine gastronomy, thanks to the high quality of the produce and the great variety, sold by 110 tradespersons. Twice a week, the esplanade situated between Saint Sébastien church, in Nancy, and the covered market, is occupied by stallholders. The market building is not simply a place where one goes shopping, because it is possible to eat there, as there are different greengrocer restaurants. Florists and booksellers are also present in the market.

The arrondissement of Nancy is an arrondissement of France in the Meurthe-et-Moselle department in the Grand Est region. It has 188 communes. Its population is 419,699 (2016), and its area is 1,509.4 km2 (582.8 sq mi).

The French National School of Forestry (École nationale des eaux et forêts, or National School of Water Resources and Forestry), established in Nancy, France, in 1824, was the first national training institute for foresters in France, and a premier early school of forestry in Europe and globally. In 1964, it was merged into the National School of Rural Engineering, Water Resources and Forestry (École nationale du génie rural, des eaux et des forêts, or ENGREF), which in turn became part of AgroParisTech (Institut des sciences et industries du vivant et de l’environnement, or Paris Institute of Technology for Life, Food and Environmental Sciences) in 2006.

Métropole du Grand Nancy is the métropole, an intercommunal structure, centred on the city of Nancy. It is located in the Meurthe-et-Moselle department, in the Grand Est region, northeastern France. It was created in July 2016, replacing the previous Communauté urbaine du Grand Nancy. Its area is 142.3 km2. Its population was 257,431 in 2018, of which 104,885 in Nancy proper.

The Hôtel de Ville (French pronunciation: [otɛl də vil], City Hall), also known as the Stanislas Palace, is a historic building in Nancy, Meurthe-et-Moselle, northeastern France, standing on the Place Stanislas. It was designated a monument historique by the French government in 1886.

The Battle of Nancy in September 1944 was a 10-day battle on the Western Front of World War II in which the Third United States Army defeated German forces defending the approaches to Nancy, France and crossings over the Moselle River to the north and south of the city. The battle resulted in U.S. forces fighting their way across the Moselle and liberating Nancy.

Nancy is the prefecture of the northeastern French department of Meurthe-et-Moselle. It was the capital of the Duchy of Lorraine, which was annexed by France under King Louis XV in 1766 and replaced by a province, with Nancy maintained as capital. Place Stanislas, a large square built between 1752 and 1756 by architect Emmanuel Héré under the direction of Stanislaus I of Poland to link the medieval old town of Nancy and the new city built under Charles III, Duke of Lorraine in the 17th century, is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the first square in France to be given this distinction. The city also has many buildings listed as historical monuments and is one of the European centres of Art Nouveau thanks to the École de Nancy. Nancy is also a large university city; with the Centre Hospitalier Régional Universitaire de Brabois, the conurbation is home to one of the main health centres in Europe, renowned for its innovations in surgical robotics.

The National School of Rural Engineering, Water Resources and Forestry (École nationale du génie rural, des eaux et des forêts, or ENGREF), was a department of Agro ParisTech for foresters and students of the Corps of Bridges, Waters and Forests, that was still an independent institution up until 2006.It was created in 1964, from the merger of the French National School of Forestry (École nationale des eaux et forêts, or National School of Water Resources and Forestry) and the National School of Rural Engineering (École nationale du génie rural) and became part of AgroParisTech (Institut des sciences et industries du vivant et de l’environnement, or Paris Institute of Technology for Life, Food and Environmental Sciences) in 2006.

The Opéra national de Lorraine is a French opera company and opera house, located in the city of Nancy, France in the province of Lorraine, France. Formerly named the Opéra de Nancy et de Lorraine, the company received the status of national opera in 2006. Opéra national de Lorraine is a member of the association Réunion des Opéras de France (ROF), of the European Network For Opera (RESEO) and of Opera Europa. All productions are accompanied by the Orchestre symphonique et lyrique de Nancy.

The Duchy of Lorraine (French: Lorraine [lɔʁɛn] ; German: Lothringen [ˈloːtʁɪŋən] ), originally Upper Lorraine, was a duchy now included in the larger present-day region of Lorraine in northeastern France. Its capital was Nancy. It was founded in 959 following the division of Lotharingia into two separate duchies: Upper and Lower Lorraine, the westernmost parts of the Holy Roman Empire. The Lower duchy was quickly dismantled, while Upper Lorraine came to be known as simply the Duchy of Lorraine. The Duchy of Lorraine was coveted and briefly occupied by the dukes of Burgundy and the kings of France, but was ruled by the dukes of the House of Lorraine after 1473. In 1737, the duchy was given to Stanisław Leszczyński, the former king of Poland, who had lost his throne as a result of the War of the Polish Succession, with the understanding that it would fall to the French crown on his death. When Stanisław died on 23 February 1766, Lorraine was annexed by France and reorganized as the province of Lorraine and Barrois.
