Sattel railway station

Sattel-Aegeri railway station (German: Bahnhof Sattel-Aegeri) was a railway station in Sattel, in the Swiss canton of Schwyz. It was an intermediate stop on the standard gauge Pfäffikon–Arth-Goldau line of Südostbahn. The station closed with the timetable change on 10 December 2023 in favor of a new station, Sattel, located near the town center.

The Battle of Morgarten took place on 15 November 1315, when troops of Schwyz, supported by their allies of Uri and Unterwalden, ambushed an Austrian army under the command of Leopold I, Duke of Austria on the shores of Lake Ägeri, in the territory of Schwyz. After a brief close-quarters battle, the Austrian army was routed, with numerous slain or drowned. The Swiss victory consolidated the League of the Three Forest Cantons, which formed the core of the Old Swiss Confederacy.

Mostelberg (also known simply as Mostel) is a resort in the Swiss Alps, located in the canton of Schwyz. The village is situated in the region between Lake Ägeri and Lake Lauerz, above Sattel, at a height of 1,191 metres above sea level. It belongs to the municipality of Sattel. Mostelberg can be reached via a gondola lift from Sattel. In winter the resort includes a ski area culminating near the Hochstuckli. Near the gondola station is located a 374-metre-long foot suspension bridge. The bridge crosses the Lauitobel valley.

Sattel Pass (el. 932 m.) is a mountain pass in the canton of Schwyz in Switzerland. It connects Pfäffikon and Seewen. The pass was in use as early as the 13th century as an access route to the St. Gotthard Pass. The road was built in 1860, and along with the railway line to Arth it has become one of the most important east–west arteries in central Switzerland.

Ägerisee or Lake Aegeri is a glacial lake in the Canton of Zug, Switzerland. The two municipalities along its shore are Oberägeri and Unterägeri. The main tributary is the Hüribach; the Lorze river drains the Ägerisee. Since 1992 the lake has been used as a water reservoir. The Battle of Morgarten took place in 1315 on the shores of the Ägerisee.

The Hochstuckli (1,566 m) is a mountain of the Schwyzer Alps, overlooking Mostelberg in the canton of Schwyz. In winter the mountain is part of a ski area. A ski-lift climbs to a height of 1,486 metres.

Steinen railway station (German: Bahnhof Steinen) is a railway station in the municipality of Steinen, in the Swiss canton of Schwyz. It is an intermediate stop on the standard gauge Gotthard line of Swiss Federal Railways. Steinen has two platforms serving two tracks.

The Finnenloipe Rothenthurm is a cross-country skiing trail in the high valley of Rothenthurm, Canton Schwyz in Switzerland. The trail is groomed for both skating and classic style. It begins at Rothenthurm railway station and leads through the Nordic-looking Rothenthurm high moor (hence the name Finnenloipe, English Finn's cross-country skiing trail), the largest contiguous high moor area in Switzerland. Several times it passes the Biber, one of the last freely meandering rivers in the Swiss Prealps. The entire circuit is 20 km, but can be shortened to 7, 11 or 15 km. In addition, there is a 3 km long night trail that is illuminated in the evening. The trail is maintained by the Finnenloipe Rothenthurm association, which was founded on October 29, 1977.
