Grimston, York

The Yorkshire Museum of Farming is located in Murton Park near York in England. It is housed on a grass field site of approximately 14 acres (5.7 ha), and is the only museum in the district specifically dedicated to the subject of farming. In the autumn of 2010, the museum was awarded full accreditation status by the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council.The museum has built up a large collection of artefacts that illustrate the history of farm mechanisation. The collection also contains domestic items and other documentary material relating to the social structure of rural life in the area. Events are held throughout the year relating to rural and farming themes. There is also a children's play area and a cafe. The site is also home to the last surviving stretch of the Derwent Valley Light Railway, part of whose archive is also in the museum's collection. The museum shares the site with the Danelaw Centre for Living History. Living history facilities include a mock Roman fort called Brigantium, which is a disguised outdoor classroom designed to cater for up to 65 children at a time. There are also buildings dedicated to the Tudor and Viking ages, including a Dark Age village and how they farmed the land centuries ago.

The Derwent Valley Light Railway (DVLR) (also known as The Blackberry Line) was a privately owned standard-gauge railway in North Yorkshire, England, and was unusual in that it was never nationalised, remaining as a private operation all its life. It ran between Layerthorpe on the outskirts of York to Cliffe Common near Selby. It opened in two stages, in 1912 and 1913, and closed in sections between 1965 and 1981. Between 1977 and 1979, passenger steam trains operated between Layerthorpe and Dunnington — the entire length of track at that time. In 1993 a small section was re-opened as part of the Yorkshire Museum of Farming at Murton. The line gained its nickname of The Blackberry Line in the days when it used to transport blackberries to markets in Yorkshire and London.

Murton Lane railway station served the village of Murton in the City of York, part of the Ceremonial County of North Yorkshire, from 1913 to 1926 on the Derwent Valley Light Railway.

St James' Church is the parish church of Murton, a village immediately east of the built-up area of the City of York, in England. The church was built in about 1200, as a simple rectangular structure of limestone. It served as a chapel-of-ease to St Thomas' Church, Osbaldwick. By the 19th century, it was unclear who was responsible for its upkeep. When the roof was badly damaged in a storm, in 1834, it was not repaired, and the chapel became a ruin. For a period, it served as a pig sty. By the early 20th century, the south and west walls remained at almost their full height, including the original south door, and two small windows which had been repaired in brick. In 1914, the chapel was restored, with the north and east walls rebuilt, with a new window each, a new tiled roof added, topped by a bellcote, and a lean-to hut added at the west end.In about 1950, a new font was installed. Believed to date from the 12th century, it was found in the churchyard of St Thomas in Osbaldwick. In 2016, a small brick-built extension was added, providing a welcome lobby, toilet and kitchen.The church was Grade II listed in 1953.

Murton is a small village and a civil parish in the unitary authority of the City of York in North Yorkshire, England that is located on the outskirts of York. To the west there is the A64 and the village of Osbaldwick, to the south the A166 road to Bridlington, to the north the village of Stockton-on-the-Forest, and to the east the villages of Holtby and Warthill. According to the 2001 census the parish had a population of 423, increasing to 668 in the 2011 Census.The village was historically part of the North Riding of Yorkshire until 1974. It was then a part of the district of Ryedale in North Yorkshire from 1974 until 1996. Since 1996 it has been part of the City of York unitary authority.The village has around a hundred properties ranging from traditional large country houses to more modern buildings. The village is home to the Yorkshire Museum of Farming at Murton Park. Here there is a small railway track which is the remains of the Derwent Valley Light Railway. Trains are run on Sundays and bank holidays. The village has a local pub called the Bay Horse. The York Livestock Centre is also located in Murton. St James' Church, Murton is linked with St Thomas' Church, Osbaldwick.

Constantine College is a College of the University of York and was founded in 2014. It was named after the Roman emperor Constantine the Great, who was proclaimed Augustus in York in 306 AD. Originally the college was owned in equal shares by the Evans Property Group and the university. However, in 2018 the university became the sole owner, purchasing Evans' stake for £9.8 million.It is the most expensive college, with the cheapest accommodation starting at £166 per week. As of 2021, this made it the least popular of the colleges on East Campus.

Langwith College is a college of the University of York. Alongside Derwent College it was a founding college of the University, and is named after the nearby Langwith Common.

Osbaldwick railway station served the village of Osbaldwick, North Yorkshire, England, from 1913 to 1981 on the Derwent Valley Light Railway.

Goodricke College is a college of the University of York. It was founded in 1968 and named after the astronomer John Goodricke. The college has approximately 1500 undergraduate members, of which some 500 live in college accommodation, and about 140 postgraduate members, of which most live in college accommodation.

St Thomas' Church is the parish church in Osbaldwick, a suburban village to the east of York, in England. The church was built of limestone in the 12th century. The nave, chancel, and several round-headed windows date from this period. The bowl of a 12th-century font also survives, although it is broken and no longer in use. A window on the south side of the chancel dates was added in about 1300. Around the nave, the lower part of the wall is panelled, and some panelling dates from the 16th century, while the communion table and pulpit are Jacobean.The church was heavily restored by John Oldrid Scott in 1877. In 1967, A. Michael Mennim added a south transept, a new south porch, a vestry, and an organ chamber, giving the church an L-shaped plan. He moved the Perpendicular east window to the south end of the transept, and made the east end a blank wall. He also relocated the 12th century south door to the east side of the transept.In 2005, the church was reordered, with the addition of a kitchen, and the replacement of the pews with chairs.Mary Ward, founder of the Congregation of Jesus, is buried in the churchyard. Her gravestone, now in the church's south wall, is inscribed: "To love the poore, persever in the same, live, dy and rise with them was all the ayme of Mary Ward who having lived 60 years and 8 days dyed the 20th of Jan 1641".The church was Grade II listed in 1953.

David Kato College is a college of the University of York and was founded in 2022. The college was named after the Ugandan teacher and LGBT rights activist David Kato, who is considered a father of Uganda's gay rights movement, and who had studied at York shortly before his murder in 2011.

Anne Lister College is one of the constituent colleges of the University of York. Located on Campus East, it is named after Anne Lister, a Yorkshire diarist and landowner, and was opened in 2021.
