Hunze

Westerbroek (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈʋɛstərˌbruk]; abbreviation: Wte) was a railway stop (Dutch: stopplaats) in the village of Westerbroek in the Netherlands. It was situated on the Harlingen–Nieuweschans railway between the railway stations of Groningen and Kropswolde. Train services started on 1 January 1905 and were operated by the Maatschappij tot Exploitatie van Staatsspoorwegen (Company for Exploitation of State Railways). The railway stop was closed on 22 May 1932.

Engelbert is a village in the Dutch province of Groningen. It is a part of the municipality of Groningen.

Onnen is a village in the municipality of Groningen in the Netherlands. There are some picturesque farms and windmills in the village. Onnen is an esdorp. The Onner ash lies a considerable distance from the actual village (an ash generally lies flat outside a village). The Groningen – Assen railway lies near Onnen. NedTrain's classification yard is also situated close to Onnen.

Haren is a railway station located in Haren, Netherlands. The current station was opened on 29 September 1968 and is located on the Meppel–Groningen railway. Train services are operated by Nederlandse Spoorwegen. A previous railway station serviced Haren between 1 May 1870, when the Meppel–Groningen railway line was opened, and 15 May 1936. The line was operated at the time by the Company for the Exploitation of the State Railways. The former station was closed because of its distance to the village. The new station, at a new location, was opened in 1968 after a new neighbourhood was built near the railway line.

Meerstad is a planned town in the Dutch province of Groningen. It started in 2007 as part of the municipality of Slochteren, but was transferred to the city of Groningen in 2017. The original plan was to built 10,000 houses for 30,000 people by 2026, but has been revised to 6,000 houses by 2035.

Glimmen is a village in the northeastern Netherlands. It is located in the municipality of Groningen, about 10 kilometres from the city. It had a population of around 1,342 in 2021. The river Drentsche Aa flows past the village, nearby the Huis te Glimmen (House in Glimmen), a stately home on the site. The Appèlbergen is a forest to the east of the village. Through this wood leads an old Roman road, known as the Hereweg (from 'Heir-weg' or "army road").

Hortus Haren is a botanical garden in Haren, Groningen, Netherlands. First created in 1626 by the pharmacist Henricus Munting, it was then situated between Grote Rozenstraat and Grote Kruisstraat in Groningen. Because of space considerations it relocated to Haren in 1967 and became the largest botanical garden in the country.

Essen is a small hamlet in the municipality of Groningen in the province of Groningen. It lies between the city of Groningen and the village of Haren. In 1215 a monastery was founded in Essen (or Yesse). It existed until 1594. During the Protestant Reformation it was closed down by the province of Groningen. It was known for having a miraculous statue of Mary (mother of Jesus). Only the terrain on which the monastery was built is recognisable. Today Essen counts twenty farms in a very rural countryside; it is hard to imagine that the centre of the city of Groningen is only 5 km (3 mi) away. The existence of Essen is being threatened by plans to build a new beltway, the Zuidtangent. The municipality of Haren has so far resisted these plans.

Harkstede (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈɦɑr(ə)ksteːdə]), also known as Haarkstee ([ˈhaː(r)ksteː]) in Gronings, is a small village in the northeastern Netherlands. It is located in Midden-Groningen, Groningen. Harkstede is located near the "Meerstad Project" of the municipality of Groningen, however it is no longer part of the project.

Haren (Dutch: [ˈɦaːrə(n)] (listen); Gronings: Hoaren) is a town and a former municipality in the northeastern Netherlands located in the direct urban area of the City of Groningen. Haren is a typical commuting municipality with many wealthy inhabitants. It lies on the northern part of a ridge of sand called the Hondsrug. It contains one of two dolmens in the province of Groningen (in the village of Noordlaren) and the largest botanical garden of the Netherlands called Hortus Haren. The municipality comprises a woodland area called Appèlbergen (east of the village of Glimmen) and a lake called Paterswoldsemeer. Haren was officially mentioned for the first time in 1249. On 21 September 2012, riots broke out with vandalism and looting in Haren. This was all because of an accidentally public distributed invitation to a birthday party on the social networking site Facebook. The events were called Project X Haren. More than 5000 people showed up and over 30 people were arrested. Damages amounted to more than a million euros.

Maartenscollege, Groningen is a secondary Christian school in the Netherlands. The school was founded by the Society of Jesus in 1946 and is now affiliated with the Carmel College Foundation.

The Bevrijdingsbos (Liberation forest) is a forest on the edge of the city of Groningen between the district Lewenborg and the village of Garmerwolde in the Netherlands. The forest was planted in 1995 to commemorate the 50th year of liberation of the Netherlands by the Canadian Army in 1945. The forest is an acknowledgement and tribute to the Canadian armed forces who liberated Groningen in April 1945. The forest consists of 30.000 maple trees, of which the leaf is the national symbol of Canada. In and next to the Bevrijdingsbos can be found the so-called 'Plein van de Wereld' (Square of the World), an information sign, a memoriam bench and a monument engraved with the names of the Canadian army units who liberated the city and forced out the Germans. Through the forest runs a path with big stones from ten different countries. On these stepping stones are written the Ten fundamental rights of children. The path ends with a stone which reads the eleventh right: The right of children to play outside freely and safely.
