The Sun-n-Sand Motor Hotel was a motel in Jackson, Mississippi, United States. The motel was opened in 1960 and partially demolished in 2021. The motel was opened by Mississippi businessman Dumas Milner and was designed in either the International or mid-century modern style. Due to its close proximity to the Mississippi State Capitol, the motel served as the temporary lodging for many politicians and elected officials while the Mississippi Legislature was in session. Additionally, during the 1960s, it became a prominent lodging location for activists in the civil rights movement, such as Robert L. Carter of the NAACP and several members of the Council of Federated Organizations during the Freedom Summer project. In either 2001 or 2002, the motel closed. Following this, the government of Mississippi leased the property as a parking lot for government employees. In 2019, the government purchased the property and announced plans to demolish the building and convert the lot into additional parking spaces. This prompted outcry from many state historians and led to the motel being declared a Mississippi Landmark by the Mississippi Department of Archives and History and being added to the National Trust for Historic Preservation's list of America's Most Endangered Places in 2020. Despite this, much of the structure was demolished by February 2021, with only the sign and some of the commons areas preserved, with the intent of converting the latter into office and meeting spaces.

Farish Street Neighborhood Historic District is a historic neighborhood in Jackson, Mississippi, known as a hub for Black-owned businesses up until the 1970s. Named after a family that lived and had businesses on that street for four generations, the street became a flourishing business area after the imposition of legal segregation under Jim Crow. As the black community thrived, by 1908 one third of the area of Jackson was black-owned, one third of the houses where blacks lived were black-owned, and half of black families owned their own homes. In 1915 the Farish Street neighborhood was well known as a progressive area in Jackson. Farish Street was home to Trumpet Records, Ace Records, and Speir Phonograph Company. Jackson State University, a historically Black university, was located at the corner of Farish and Griffith for about a year until it moved to its new location.The Farish Street neighborhood was added as a historic district to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. The neighborhood is historically significant as an economically independent black community, and as of 1980 was the largest such community in Mississippi. Most of the properties in the district were built between 1890 and 1930.

Mississippi College School of Law (MC Law or MC Law School) is an American Bar Association accredited law school. MC Law is one of two law schools in the state of Mississippi, and is the only law school in the capital city of Jackson, Mississippi. The school is a professional school of Mississippi College, founded in 1826.

The Woolfolk State Office Building is a high-rise government office building in Jackson, Mississippi, USA. It was designed in the Art Deco architectural style by Emmett J. Hull, Edgar Lucian Malvaney, Frank P. Gates and Ransom Carey Jones, and it was completed in 1949. It is currently the tenth-tallest building in Jackson.

The Robert E. Lee Building is an office building at 239 North Lamar Street in Jackson, Mississippi. It was built as the Robert E. Lee Hotel and operated as such from 1930 to July 6, 1964, when it closed rather than admit African Americans as required by the Civil Rights Act of 1964. As of 2017, state government personnel working in the building included: Mississippi Department of Mental Health, the Board of Licensed Professional Counselors, the Board of Registration for Foresters, the Charter School Authorizer Board, Office of Capitol Post Conviction Counsel, Offices of Information Technology Services, Office of State Public Defender, and the Board of Cosmetology.

The Greyhound Bus Station at 219 N. Lamar St., Jackson, Mississippi, was the site of many arrests during the May 1961 Freedom Rides of the Civil Rights Movement. The Art Deco building has been preserved and currently functions as an architect's office.

Central High School was a public high school in Jackson, Mississippi, United States. It was established in 1888 and was part of the Jackson Public School District. Its building currently serves as the headquarters of the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE).

Brigadier-General Samuel Wragg Ferguson (November 3, 1834 – February 3, 1917) was a senior officer of the Confederate States Army who commanded cavalry in the Western Theater of the American Civil War. After the civil war, Ferguson served as a member of the Mississippi River Commission.

Greenwood Cemetery is a cemetery located in downtown Jackson, Mississippi. Still in use, it was established by a federal land grant on November 21, 1821. It was originally known simply as "The Graveyard" and later as "City Cemetery" before the present name was adopted in 1899. It is the final resting place of Confederate generals, former governors of Mississippi, mayors of Jackson, as well as other notable figures, the most recent of whom is internationally acclaimed author Eudora Welty. The graves of over 100 "unknown" Confederate soldiers are also located here. Greenwood Cemetery was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and as a Mississippi Landmark in 1984.The "garden park" type cemetery contains the largest collection of everblooming "own root" (not grafted) antique and modern shrubs roses in the country – several hundred shrubs representing over 40 named cultivars – as well as numerous hardy bulbs and other flowering shrubs and trees.

Jackson Marriott Downtown is a hotel in downtown Jackson, Mississippi by Marriott International. It was completed in 1975. It has a total of 21 floors. Currently it is the second tallest building in Jackson, Mississippi at 255 ft (78 m) tall. It has a total of 303 rooms.

The Alex William House, also known as the Greystone Hotel, is a historic house in Jackson, Mississippi. It was built in 1912 by George Thomas, an African-American building contractor, for Alex Williams, an African-American grocer. From 1922 to 1945, it belonged to the Marino family, and it became a hotel in 1950.The house was designed in the Colonial Revival architectural style. It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since July 3, 1979.

The Supreme Court of Mississippi is the highest court in the state of Mississippi. It was established in 1818 per the terms of the first constitution of the state and was known as the High Court of Errors and Appeals from 1832 to 1869. The court is an appellate court. It is housed in the Carroll Gartin Justice Building in Jackson, Mississippi, the state capital. The court consists of nine justices elected in nonpartisan contests from three different districts to serve eight-year terms. The justice most senior in tenure serves as the chief justice. The state constitution grants the Supreme Court broad jurisdiction to review cases that raise questions of law. It only has original jurisdiction over legal cases arising from actions taken by the Mississippi Public Service Commission to alter utility rates and in investigating instances of judicial misconduct. State law gives the Supreme Court direct appellate jurisdiction over cases involving capital punishment, municipal annexation, bond issues, election disputes, judicial disciplinary affairs, certified questions from federal courts, and laws found unconstitutional in lower courts. All appeals of state trial court rulings concerning other matters are initially brought before the Supreme Court, which can then assign them to the Mississippi Court of Appeals at its discretion. The court's members are divided into "divisions" of three justices each, and most cases are heard and ruled upon only by one division. The justices sit en banc to review split-decisions from a division—at the dissenting justice's request—and to hear cases involving capital punishment, utility rates, constitutional matters of first impression, and issues deemed to likely have a significant impact on the public.
