Ferryhill Town Hall

Ferryhill is a town in County Durham, England, with an estimated population in 2018 of 9,362 people, making it the twelfth largest town in the county. The town grew very rapidly in the 1900s around the coal mining industry. The last mine officially closed in 1968.

Chilton is a town in County Durham, England. It is situated a few miles to the east of Bishop Auckland and a short distance to the south of Ferryhill, on the A167. The bypass on the A167 opened on 20 June 2005, cutting down the traffic through Chilton by up to 80%.

Thinford is a small hamlet in County Durham, England. It is situated to the east of Spennymoor, between Darlington and Durham at the intersection of the A167 and the A688. It consists of only a few houses, but contains a pub and restaurant serving a wider area, as well as a McDonald's restaurant, a KFC restaurant, a Starbucks Coffee Drive Thru, a Burger King Drive Thru, and BP filling station serving traffic on the A167, which also features a Spar convenience store, along with a Greg's bakery and Subway. Thinford is in the process of a multimillion-pound redevelopment known as Durham Gate. This is due to bring hundreds of new homes, shops and office facilities. Work has already started on the development and people are already living in new homes built by Taylor Wimpey and Maple Oak Homes. About one mile to the east of Thinford, there is an electrical substation, which is linked by a line of L6 pylons to the Stella West substation in Tyneside, and by a line of L12 400 kV pylons (which replaced the older L66 275 kV pylons in 2011) to the Norton substation in Teesside.

The Carrs is a Site of Special Scientific Interest in the Sedgefield district of County Durham, England. It is situated on the eastern outskirts of Ferryhill, between the town and the East Coast Main Line railway. The Carrs is an area of wetland that has formed in the low-lying parts of a glacial meltwater channel. A large part of the site is open water, which is fringed by fen vegetation. Woodland and calcareous grassland cover the steep slopes on the western side of the site, where there is also a disused quarry. The site's importance lies mainly in its areas of open water and fen vegetation, which are scarce habitats in lowland County Durham. There is also a small area of equally scarce magnesian limestone grassland, in which blue moor-grass, Sesleria albicans, and glaucous sedge, Carex flacca, are dominant. The site adjoins the Ferryhill Carrs Local Nature Reserve, which extends to the north, alongside the railway line.

Ferryhill School (formerly Ferryhill Business And Enterprise College and before that Ferryhill Comprehensive School) is a coeducational secondary school located in Ferryhill, County Durham, England. The school specialises in Business and Enterprise. Previously a community school administered by Durham County Council, in May 2018 Ferryhill Business And Enterprise College converted to academy status. The school is now sponsored by, and hosts, the Eden Learning Trust.

Metal Bridge is a hamlet in County Durham, England, situated a few miles south of Durham. The East Coast Main Line runs directly through Metal Bridge but trains do not stop. Metal Bridge is situated within the civil parish of Ferryhill.

Biomass Energy Centre is a biomass fired CHP power station located in the town of Chilton in County Durham. Opened in 2011, the plant was developed, and then owned and operated by Veolia Energy-Dalkia.
