Church of St Clare, Bradfield

St Margaret's Church is the parish church of Westhorpe, Suffolk, England. It is part of the Badwell and Walsham Benefice. It is a Grade I listed building.

Bradfield St. Clare is a village and civil parish in the West Suffolk district of Suffolk, England, about six miles south of Bury St Edmunds. According to Eilert Ekwall, the meaning of the village's name is "the wide field". The Domesday Book records the population of Bradfield St. Clare in 1086 to be 76; this includes Bradfield Combust and Bradfield St George. It was at that point held by the St Cleer family (whose name it still bears) on behalf of the Abbey of Bury St Edmunds. By 1493 it was owned by John Jerveys, and by 1552 was linked to the Davers family.A Church of England school was built in the village 1875, and closed in the 1950s. The village includes the historic Anglican Church of St Clare, Bradfield, the original structure of which dates back to the 12th century.It has been speculated that the field of Hellesden, which may be a corruption of Hagelisdon, within the parish, was the site of the martyrdom of St Edmund.In 1801 the village had 131 inhabitants, rising to 226 by 1831 and remaining stable for several decades. By 1901 the population had declined again to 165, and remained at a similar size up to 1981.

Welnetham railway station was on the Long Melford-Bury St Edmunds branch line, serving Great Whelnetham, Little Whelnetham and Sicklesmere in Suffolk. It opened in 1865 and closed in 1961; later it was converted into a private residence. The "Welnetham" station sign is on display at the National Railway Museum in York.

In 2001, the population was 386 people (not including Bradfield Combust and Bradfield St Clare). St George's Church contains an east window by the noted Pre-Raphaelite artist and designer Edward Arthur Fellowes PrynneThe village has a village hall built in 1955 which holds many events like the village fireworks night, special occasions and Friday night dinner evenings (once monthly). The village had a forge; a wheelwright; a school; a post office; three pubs and a windmill, all of which, other than one of the pubs (Fox and Hounds), are now private houses. The Fox and Hounds closed in 2012 and is now The Solstice Wellbeing Centre providing psychotherapy; yoga; qigong, and meditation, and is also used by local tai chi and gongfu (kung fu) schools. The village is home to former England Cricketer and Sky Sports commentator Nick Knight.

Bradfield Combust (or Burnt Bradfield) is a village and former manor and civil parish, now in the parish of Bradfield Combust with Stanningfield, the West Suffolk district, in Suffolk, England, located on the A134 between Windsor Green and Great Whelnetham. In 1961 the parish had a population of 108. In 1988 the parish was merged with Stanningfield to form "Bradfield Combust with Stanningfield".

Bull's Wood is a 12 hectare nature reserve east of Cockfield in Suffolk, England. It is managed by the Suffolk Wildlife Trust, and is part of the Thorpe Morieux Woods Site of Special Scientific Interest.Flora in this wood include early-purple orchids, herb-paris and the uncommon oxlips. There are roe deer, marsh tits, and butterflies such as gatekeepers, speckled woods and orange tips.There is access by a footpath from Palmers Farm.

Bradfield Woods is an 81.4-hectare (201-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest between Bury St Edmunds and Stowmarket in Suffolk. The site is in three separate blocks, the adjoining Felsham Hall and Monkspark Woods, and the much smaller separate Hedge Wood and Chensil Grove. Felsham Hall and Monkspark Woods are designated a 63.3 National Nature Reserve, also called Bradfield Woods, and are managed by the Suffolk Wildlife Trust.These woods have a history of coppicing dating to before 1252, producing a very high diversity of flora, with over 370 plant species recorded. Uncommon woodland flowers include oxlip, herb paris and ramson. There is also a rich variety of fungi, with two species not recorded elsewhere in Britain.There is access from Felsham Road west of Gedding.

Cockfield is a village and civil parish located approximately 3+1⁄2 miles (5.6 km) from Lavenham in Suffolk, England. The village consists of a central point and several outlying hamlets: Buttons Green, Colchester Green, Cross Green, Great Green, Oldhall Green, Smithwood Green and Windsor Green. Surrounded mostly by fields used for farming, and with few roads, its population was 839 in 2001, increasing to 868 at the 2011 Census.The village previously had a railway station on the Long Melford-Bury St Edmunds branch line, but it was closed in 1961 as part of the Beeching Axe. Its football team, Cockfield United play in the Suffolk and Ipswich Football League.

Windsor Green is a hamlet in the civil parish of Cockfield, in the Babergh district of the county of Suffolk, England. It is about four miles away from the large village of Lavenham and about eleven miles away from the large town of Bury St Edmunds. For transport there is the A1141 road and the A134 road nearby.
