Altadore is a residential neighbourhood in the inner-city portion of the southwest quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. It is bounded by 33rd Ave SW and the neighbourhood of South Calgary in the north, River Park and 14 St SW in the east, the Garrison Woods neighbourhood and Crowchild Trail SW in the west, and 50th Ave SW in the south. Altadore is part of the Marda Loop Communities Association (MLCA) along with Garrison Woods and South Calgary. Altadore was named one of Calgary's best neighbourhoods in 2010 for its proximity to River Park, one of Calgary's best parks on the Elbow River, Marda Loop, the largest and busiest outdoor shopping area in Calgary, and for having a vibrant party and cultural scene. The Marda Loop Business Revitalization Zone is located within the community, along 33 and 34 Avenues SW. The neighbourhood is experiencing a gentrification process with many high-end, semi-detached homes built in the last 15 years. Altadore was established in 1945. It is represented in the Calgary City Council by the Ward 8 councillor. The community has an area redevelopment plan in place.The meaning of "Altadore" is unclear. It may have been named after a mansion in County Wicklow, Ireland, or it may have been a portmanteau word whose first part derived either from "Alta", the standard English abbreviation of Alberta, or "alta" for high (the neighbourhood being on a hill), and whose second part was derived from "dore", a version of the French "d'or", or "of gold".

Elbow Park is an affluent residential neighbourhood in the southwest quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. It is one of the oldest and wealthiest communities in the city. It is bordered to the south and east by Elbow River, to the east by Elbow Drive, to the north by Council Way and to the west by 14 Street W. Elbow Park was annexed to the City of Calgary in 1907 and developed after 1910, when it was established as a neighbourhood. It is represented in the Calgary City Council by the Ward 8 and 11 councillors.River Park and Stanley Park, developed in the Elbow River valley, border the community.

Bankview is a neighbourhood in the southwest quadrant of the city of Calgary, Alberta. The neighbourhood is bounded by 17th Avenue SW on the north, 26th Avenue SW on the south, 14th Street SW on the east and 19th Street SW on the west. It is a residential neighbourhood located southwest of the high density Beltline district of the inner city.

South Calgary is a residential neighbourhood in the southwest quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. It is located between 14th St west and Crowchild Trail. The community has an area redevelopment plan in place.The community maintains an outdoor swimming pool, as well as a community hall and several city parks. The Giuffre Family Library (previously Alexander Calhoun Library) of the Calgary Public Library is also located in the area. South Calgary was established in 1914 on land annexed by the City of Calgary in 1907. However, the area remained largely undeveloped until the early 1950s.

Britannia is an affluent residential neighbourhood in the southwest quadrant of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It is bounded by Elbow Drive to the east, 50 Avenue S to the south, Elbow River and Riverdale Park to the west and Britannia Drive to the north. The area was annexed to the City of Calgary in 1910, and Britannia was established in 1956. Most of the development took place in the late 1950s. It is represented in the Calgary City Council by the Ward 11 councillors.

Calgary-Elbow is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, Canada. Its most recent MLA was Doug Schweitzer, who won the seat in the 2019 provincial election. Schweitzer stepped down on August 31, 2022 and the electoral district (often commonly referred to as “riding”) is currently unrepresented. The riding was created in 1971 from the southeast part of Calgary-Glenmore and the southwest Part of the old Calgary South riding. Includes the communities of: Altadore, Bel-Aire, Britannia, Elbow Park, Elboya, Erlton, Garrison Woods, Glamorgan, Lincoln Park, Mount Royal, Marda Loop, Mayfair, Meadowlark Park, North Glenmore, Parkhill, Rideau Park, Roxboro, South Calgary and Windsor Park.

Mount Royal is an area of Calgary, Alberta and is home to the neighbourhoods of Upper Mount Royal (to the south) and Lower Mount Royal (the northern section, on flat terrain), which are separated by an escarpment that runs along Cameron and Royal Avenues in an east-west direction. Upper Mount Royal has an area redevelopment plan in place.Upper Mount Royal (along with Elbow Park and Roxboro) is one of Calgary's wealthiest neighbourhoods and is home to some of the city's most expensive estates ranging in age from nearly 100 years old to new. Originally an enclave of the city's American born business elite, the neighbourhood was originally known as 'American hill'. As of 2001, American immigrants still made up 29.2% of the residents. This informal name eventually gave way to the more Canadian name of Mount Royal. These neighbourhoods are concentrated in the Elbow River valley. The area of both neighbourhoods is bounded on the north by 17th Avenue SW and on the west by 14th Street SW. Despite its name, Mount Royal is not home to the city's Mount Royal University.

The Glenmore Velodrome is a 400-metre outdoor bicycle racing track in Calgary, Alberta. It is operated by the Calgary Bicycle Track League, and was built in 1974. The track surface is concrete, with 29 degree banking in the corners. It hosted the 1975 National Track Championships.

Marda Loop is a shopping and dining district (i.e., a Business Improvement Area, or BIA) in southwest Calgary, Alberta. While the name "Marda Loop" originated with the BIA, it also applies generically to the surrounding community, and also to the residential Marda Loop Communities Association. This entry is primarily about the Marda Loop BIA.The area has become one of Calgary's most popular outdoor shopping venues. The BIA also hosts Calgary’s oldest street fair, the Marda Gras Street Festival, as well as the Calgary Justice Film Festival. The district is centered on 33rd and 34th Avenues SW between Crowchild Trail and 18th Street SW, and along Garrison Gate SW. It intersects the neighbourhoods of South Calgary, Altadore, Garrison Woods, and the southeastern part of the community of Richmond-Knob Hill.

Alternative High School (AHS) is a public senior high (secondary) school in Calgary, Alberta, Canada; which teaches grades 10 through 12. AHS is currently located at the Clinton Ford Centre, which was home to the former Clinton Ford Elementary School. AHS was launched, independent of the board, in September 1974 by a parents group. It reflected many of the "alternative education" ideas that were popular at the time. The early philosophy the school borrowed from the ideas of A. S. Neill, who founded Summerhill School. This involved supporting the freedom of children, and opposing the traditional structure and control of most schools. Although, AHS was never meant to be a copy of Summerhill. In 1975 AHS came under the control of the Calgary Board of Education (CBE).

Calgary Centre (French: Calgary-Centre; formerly known as Calgary South Centre) is a federal electoral district in Alberta, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 1968. The riding consists of many young adults who have a relatively high average household income and education level. As the riding encompasses the downtown core and large swaths of apartment blocks in the communities west and south of downtown, Calgary Centre has a low home ownership rate compared to the rest of Canada.

Richmond is a residential neighbourhood in the southwest quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. It is located on both sides of the Crowchild Trail, south of 17th Avenue SW. It was the location of Alberta Children's Hospital until 2007, when the new facility was opened in the northwest quadrant. The community has an area redevelopment plan in place.Richmond was established in 1950. It is represented in the Calgary City Council by the Ward 8 councillor, on a provincial level by Calgary-Currie MLA Brian Malkinson, and is currently represented at the federal level by Calgary Centre MP Kent Hehr.
