The 2024 Bangladesh Ansar protest was a protest for reforms on 25 August 2024, near the Bangladesh Secretariat by some members of the Bangladesh Ansar, a paramilitary force tasked with providing security to government installations and aiding law enforcement in Bangladesh.

The Bangladesh Secretariat, also known as Bangladesh Sachibalaya or Old Secretariat, is the administrative headquarters of the Government of Bangladesh, and houses the majority of ministries and government agencies and bodies. The secretariat can refer to the complex of ministries, or refer to the Bangladesh Civil Service central administration. Its political heads are the ministers while the administrative heads are the Secretaries to the Government. It is located in Bangladesh's capital city of Dhaka. The Secretariat complex was originally constructed as Secretariat of East Pakistan.

The neighbourhood is one of the important areas of Dhaka featuring a large number of government and residential complexes. It acts as a bridge between the major thanas of Ramna, Shahbagh, Dhanmondi, Paltan and Motijheel, and is located in the crossroads of Ramna, Shahbag and Paltan thanas. Segunbagicha hosts a large number of middle-class, upper-middle class and affluent people, as a result, this neighbourhood is bustling with high-rise buildings, mostly residential but some government and corporate buildings too. Segunbagicha is a centre of government office building and institutions including the headquarters of The Directorate General of National Security Intelligence, Anti-Corruption Commission (commonly known as duduk; দুদক), Motsho Bhobon (building of Department of Fisheries), Bangladesh Secretariat, the International Mother Language Institute, Liberation War Museum, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, the Public Works Department, the Bangladesh Department of Architecture, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as several tax zones.

Bangladesh Bar Council is a statutory autonomous body in Bangladesh, established under the Legal Practitioners and the Bar Council Order. It is the licensing and Regulatory body for lawyers in Bangladesh.The bar council can establish tribunals to investigate and prosecute complaints against lawyers. In 2019 there were five such tribunals. A tribunal may reprimand or suspend a lawyer or remove them from practice. It dealt with 378 complaints from 2014 to 2018. Nine lawyers have lost their license permanently and 6 were suspended for a limited period of time.

The 2024 Bangladesh judicial coup attempt was a series of events that unfolded in August 2024, involving an alleged effort by members of the judiciary in Bangladesh to destabilize the newly formed interim government and potentially restore power to the ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The coup attempt was primarily centred around judicial manoeuvres led by Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan and other judges suspected of being loyal to the Awami League, the political party led by Hasina.

The Supreme Court of Bangladesh (Bengali: বাংলাদেশ সুপ্রীম কোর্ট) is the highest court of law in Bangladesh. It is composed of the High Court Division and the Appellate Division, and was created by Part VI Chapter I (article 94) of the Constitution of Bangladesh adopted in 1972. This is also the office of the Chief Justice, Appellate Division Justices, and High Court Division Justices of Bangladesh. As of May 2022, there are 7 Justices in Appellate Division and 86 (all are permanent) in High Court Division.
