Rocks at Freyr

The Castle of Freÿr (French: Château de Freÿr，French pronunciation: [ʃato də fʁɛjʁ] ) with its gardens in the style of Le Nôtre is located in Wallonia on the left bank of the Meuse, between Waulsort and Dinant (province of Namur, Belgium). They form one of the most magnificent natural sites in Belgium. It has been classified as one of Wallonia's major heritage sites. It is often called a greatly reduced Versailles. Originally a Renaissance castle, it was extended in the 18th century and was once the residence of dukes and their royal guests. It has gardens including orange trees. The more than three-hundred-year-old orangeries are the oldest in the Low Countries.

The Lesse is a river in the Ardennes, in the Walloon region of Belgium. It is a right tributary to the river Meuse. The source of the Lesse is near Libramont-Chevigny, in the Belgian province of Luxembourg. The Lesse flows roughly in north-western direction. Near Han-sur-Lesse (municipality of Rochefort) the entire river goes underground, flowing through limestone caves. Many of the caves along the banks of the Lesse are important archaeological sites; these include the Trou de Chaleux (by the Cirque de Chaleux), and the Trou des Nutons and Trou du Frontal at Furfooz. The Lesse flows into the river Meuse in the village of Anseremme, municipality of Dinant. Towns along the Lesse are Daverdisse, Han-sur-Lesse, Houyet and Anseremme.

Anseremme (Walloon: Ansreme) is a village of Wallonia and a district of the municipality of Dinant, located in the province of Namur, Belgium. Anseremme is situated where the river Lesse and Meuse meet. The agricultural sector and tourism are the most important source of income for the region.

The Brasserie Caracole is a Belgian artisanal brewery based in Falmignoul (near Dinant) that is known to warm the water with a wood-fired oven. The bottling and labelling are done manually. The brewery was already existing in 1766 under the name Brasserie Moussoux, then changed its name Brasserie Lamotte in 1941 and was finally taken over in 1992 to become the Brasserie Caracole.

Walzin Castle is a castle in the city of Dinant, Wallonia Belgium in the province Namur over the river Lesse, district of Dréhance. This Gothic Revival castle stands on a steep rock above the right bank of the Lesse, about 5km before it flows into the Meuse. Popular kayak routes allow a view of the castle from the Lesse valley.

Dinant railway station (French: Gare de Dinant, Dutch: Station Dinant) is a railway station in Dinant, Namur, Belgium. The station is operated by the National Railway Company of Belgium (SNCB/NMBS).

Naulette, French: Caverne de la Naulette is a large cave located in Wallonia on the left bank of the Lesse, a tributary of the Meuse in the hills above Dinant, Belgium. In 1866 Belgian paleontologist Édouard Dupont discovered a fragmented edentulous human mandible and an incomplete ulna at Naulette, that are now housed in the Brussels Natural History Museum .Contrary to earlier human fossil discoveries, such as the Neanderthal 1 remains in Germany, which could not be traced back to its contextual origin the Naulette fossil's antiquity was quickly confirmed as it was recorded in a precise stratigraphic context and could be compared and associated with remains of large, extinct prehistoric mammals, mammoth, rhinoceros and reindeer unearthed from the same sediment layer. French anthropologist Paul Broca wrote that the discovery constitutes "the first event providing Darwinists with anatomical evidence. It is the first link in the chain which, according to them, extends from man to the apes".The mandible exhibits certain peculiarities, is of a very ape-like type in its extreme projection and that of the teeth sockets (the teeth themselves are lost), suggesting very strong canines and large molars that increase in size backward. The Naulette Man is now considered to be a Neanderthal assigned to the Mousterian culture.

The Collegiate Church of Our Lady of Dinant (French: Collégiale Notre-Dame de Dinant) is a Roman Catholic collegiate church located in Dinant, a city in Wallonia (southern Belgium), on the banks of the river Meuse. The 13th-century Gothic building replaced a 10th-century Romanesque church which collapsed in 1228, leaving only the north door. Its most iconic part is the separate 16th-century pear-shaped bell tower.

Mr Sax's House (French: Maison de Monsieur Sax; Dutch: Huis van Sax) is a little museum in Dinant in the Belgian province of Namur. It is dedicated to Adolphe Sax (1814–1894). Sax was a builder of musical instruments and is foremost remembered for his invention of the saxophone.

The Citadel of Dinant (French: Citadelle de Dinant) is a fortress located in the Walloon city of Dinant in the province of Namur, Belgium. The current fort was built in 1815 on a site which was originally fortified in 1051 when the region was ruled by the Prince-Bishopric of Liège. The citadel overlooks the city of Dinant and the strategic Meuse river which runs through the town. It is open to the public. Together with Huy, Liège and Namur, the Citadel of Dinant forms part of the so-called Meuse Citadels.

Bouvignes-sur-Meuse (Walloon: Bovegne) is a village of Wallonia and a district of the municipality of Dinant, located in the province of Namur, Belgium, on the River Meuse. In municipal terms, the commune was merged with Dinant in 1965. Either it or Dinant was the birthplace of the first specialist landscape painter, Joachim Patinir (d. 1524). In medieval times there was a lot of conflict between Bouvignes and neighbouring town of Dinant, on the opposite bank of the river, and at this point Bouvignes was a fortified town. This hostility was due to the townspeople of Bouvignes being linked to the Church of Namur and those of Dinant being linked to the Church of Liege.In 1320, on a high rock cliff next to the town, Crèvecœur Castle was constructed to build up the defences of Bouvignes during the hostilities. The castle was modified during the 14th and 15th centuries.In 1554 King Henry II of France sacked both Bouvignes and Dinant, and went on to besiege Crèvecœur Castle in Bouvignes. The castle held out, with leadership of the defence being taken over by the wives of three officers, but eventually the fighting ceased because the defenders had run out of ammunition. At this, the three wives threw themselves hand-in-hand off the castle walls, preferring to die than to be captured. Crèvecœur Castle is now freely accessible, offering beautiful views over the river and scenery.

Dinant (French pronunciation: [dinɑ̃] ) is a city and municipality of Wallonia located in the province of Namur, Belgium. On the shores of river Meuse, in the Ardennes, it lies 90 kilometres (56 mi) south-east of Brussels, 30 kilometres (19 mi) south-east of Charleroi and 30 kilometres (19 mi) south of the city of Namur. Dinant is situated 20 kilometres (12 mi) north of the border with France. The municipality consists of the following districts: Anseremme, Bouvignes-sur-Meuse, Dinant, Dréhance, Falmagne, Falmignoul, Foy-Notre-Dame, Furfooz, Lisogne, Sorinnes and Thynes.
