Much of the volcanic activity in the northern portions of the North Island of New Zealand is recent in geological terms and has taken place over the last 30 million years. This is primarily due to the North Island's position on the boundary between the Indo-Australian and Pacific Plates, a part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, and particularly the subduction of the Pacific Plate under the Indo-Australian Plate. The activity has included some of the world's largest eruptions in geologically recent times and has resulted in much of the surface formations of the North Island being volcanic as shown in the map.

Brookby is a rural suburb of Auckland, New Zealand. Brookby is approximately 5 kilometres west of Clevedon and 5 km southeast of Whitford. Originally established as a farming community with few people living in the area, Brookby is now a fast-growing community. It has many newly built houses within the area. The suburb is in the Franklin ward, one of the thirteen administrative divisions of Auckland Council. It is situated in the Hunua Electorate. Brookby was originally named Turanga Creek, until early residents realised their mail was being sent to Tauranga instead. The original post-office was located near a Brook (Papakura Stream), and so was named by the brook, or Brookby.

The New Zealand Women's Open was a women's professional golf tournament on the ALPG Tour. It was founded in 2009 and became a co-sanctioned event on the Ladies European Tour the following year. The 2017 edition was co-sanctioned by the LPGA Tour and not the LET.

Ardmore is a large rural locality of Auckland, New Zealand, located to the south-east of Auckland CBD, just 27 km away. The suburb is in the Franklin Ward, one of the thirteen administrative divisions of Auckland, and is under local governance of Auckland Council.

Clevedon (Māori: Te Wairoa), previously known as Wairoa South, is a rural town to the south-east of Auckland, New Zealand, located in Franklin. The area is a part of the rohe of Ngāi Tai ki Tāmaki, who settled around the Wairoa River. The township was founded in the 1850s, and was named Clevedon in 1866. Over time, Clevedon developed into a centre for the dairy industry in south-eastern Auckland. Several popular beaches are located on the coast close to Clevedon, including Umupuia Beach and Kawakawa Bay. Between these two beaches lies the Duder Regional Park.

Tuscany Estates is a southeastern suburb of Auckland, New Zealand. It is located slightly southeast of the suburb Flat Bush. Tuscany Heights Reserve is located in Tuscany Estate.

The Pukekiwiriki (alternatively spelled and pronounced Pukekoiwiriki), also known as Red Hill, is the northernmost volcano of the South Auckland volcanic field in New Zealand, located east of Papakura, which erupted an estimated one million years ago. The hill was the site of a major Tāmaki Māori pā, and the Te Ākitai Waiohua village Te Aparangi in the 19th century.

Keri Hill is a suburb of Auckland, in northern New Zealand. Located 32 kilometres to the southwest of Auckland CBD, under authority of the Auckland Council. The suburban area of Keri Hill pastoral lifestyle blocks overlooking Ardmore, Ardmore Airport, and Manukau Heights. The suburb is located between Red Hill and Ardmore incorporating a small residential and rural area.

Whitford is a rural town, to the south-east of Auckland, New Zealand. There are multiple versions of how the town was named. It may be named after Richard Whitford, a man who operated a flax mill on the Waikopua near Housons Creek and was the postman. Others think Whitford referred to the White-ford over the Turanga Creek at the end of Sandstone Road, where the salt dries when the tide is out. Another possibility is that it is named after Whitefoord Park part of a vast property belonging to L.D. Nathan was initially listed as ‘Whitefoord Park’ in Wises Post Office Directory for 1875–1876, but by the time it went on sale for subdivision in 1903 it was known as Whitford Park.

Papakura Military Camp is a New Zealand Army military camp located in the Auckland suburb of Papakura North, in northern New Zealand. It is the home of the New Zealand Special Air Service.

Kelvin Road School is a medium-sized city school. Located in Papakura, a suburb of Auckland, New Zealand, south of the city's CBD (Downtown Auckland City). The school is located on the eastern side of Papakura, close to Ardmore Airport and near Red Hill. The school is a co-educational contributing state primary school, with a staff of twenty three full-time and four part-time teachers. The school is also part of a program that adds a social worker to its team several days a week in an effort to build stronger communities. Classrooms are in four blocks with facilities: library, speech clinic, reading and resource rooms, music/av room and swimming pool spread among them. The school has a strong focus on ICT in its curriculum and was the lead school in a Ministry of Education ICT Cluster from 2004 to 2006. The school also has a bilingual and two rumaki reo on site and is home to the Kelvin Road Whanau Centre a branch of the Great Potentials charity that helps support families and provides such as the HIPPY program as well as kindergarten care. The school provides optional after school care in the form of a homework center. sKids (Safe Kids In Daily Supervision) also provide safe after school supervision on the school site. Sports are also well catered for and supported by the staff. In 2007 SPARC (Sport & Recreation New Zealand) visited the school and helped run the schools own World Cup Tournament for Soccer which teams had been involved in over the space of two months. Each classroom represented a different country. Recently the school has been involved in the second Literacy professional development initiative run by the Ministry of Education and has achieved outstanding results. Currently the school is involved in the Papakura Achievement Initiative, which has a strong focus on Literacy. As part of the schools focus on ICT the school runs its own Radio Station called KRS FM which is broadcast on FM 107.1 throughout the school day.

Red Hill is a suburb of Auckland, in northern New Zealand. Located 34 kilometres (21 mi) to the southeast of Auckland CBD, under authority of the Auckland Council. The suburban area of Red Hill makes up the southernmost part of the Auckland metropolitan area, however the majority of the area is rural. The suburb is adjacent to Pukekiwiriki, an ancient volcano and Pā. Red Hill is located in the Manurewa-Papakura ward, one of the thirteen administrative divisions of Auckland city.
