Surrounded mostly by fields used for farming, and with few roads, its population was 839 in 2001, increasing to 868 at the 2011 Census.The village previously had a railway station on the Long Melford-Bury St Edmunds branch line, but it was closed in 1961 as part of the Beeching Axe. Its football team, Cockfield United play in the Suffolk and Ipswich Football League.

Lawshall Green is a hamlet in the civil parish of Lawshall in the Babergh district in the county of Suffolk, England. It is located east of Hibb's Green and is less than half a mile off the A134 between Bury St Edmunds and Sudbury.

The Railway Walks is a 25.3 hectare Local Nature Reserve which runs along parts of a former railway line between Sudbury and Lavenham in Suffolk. It is owned and managed by Suffolk County Council. The walk has diverse fauna and flora in habitats such as water meadows, streams, ditches and ponds. Birds include willow warblers, kingfishers, woodpeckers, mallards, moorhens and swans.

Oldhall Green is a hamlet in Suffolk, England. It is part of the civil parish of Cockfield and is located on the A1141 road between Lavenham and Bury St Edmunds. The Old Hall Green Farm was owned by Richard Hilder.

Lavenham railway station was a station in Lavenham, Suffolk, on the Long Melford–Bury St Edmunds branch line. It closed to passengers in 1961, and the station buildings remained in use as offices until about 2010, when they were demolished.

The St Peter and St Paul Church, Alpheton is the parish church of Alpheton, Suffolk, England. Built in the 14th century it is a Grade I listed building. The 14th century font is made from Purbeck marble.

Lineage Wood & Railway Track, Long Melford is a 78.7-hectare (194-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest north-east of Long Melford in Suffolk. Lineage Wood has neutral grassland rides with diverse flora, especially orchids such as the greater butterfly, fly orchid, common spotted and bee orchid. 22 species of butterfly have been recorded. The disused railway line also has floristically rich grassland, but the soil is more alkaline. Lineage Wood is private land with no public access, but the St Edmund Way footpath runs along the disused railway line.
