WHRK (97.1 FM "K97") is a commercial radio station licensed to Memphis, Tennessee. The station is owned by iHeartMedia and it airs an urban contemporary radio format. The station carries the nationally syndicated weekday morning show, The Breakfast Club, from co-owned Premiere Networks and based at WWPR-FM in New York City. The rest of the schedule is hosted by local DJs. WHRK's studios and offices are located on Thousand Oaks Boulevard in Southeast Memphis. The transmitter site is off Benjestown Road in North Memphis.WHRK broadcasts in the HD Radio format, with its HD-2 subchannel carrying Christian radio format, branded as "Radio by Grace".

Martin Luther King Jr. College Preparatory High School, is a charter high school located in Memphis, Tennessee. It is part of the Frayser Community Schools district.

Frayser is a neighborhood on the north side of Memphis, Tennessee, United States. It is named after Memphis physician Dr. J Frayser, who owned a summer home near the railroad. Frayser's boundaries are the Wolf River to the south, the Mississippi River to the west, the Loosahatchie River to the north, and ICRR tracks to the east. The population of Frayser is approximately 45,000.

The Wolf River is a 105-mile-long (169 km) alluvial river in western Tennessee and northern Mississippi, whose confluence with the Mississippi River was the site of various Chickasaw, French, Spanish and American communities that eventually became Memphis, Tennessee. It is estimated to be about 12,000 years old, formed by Midwestern glacier runoff carving into the region's soft alluvial soil. It should not be confused with The Wolf River (Middle Tennessee) which flows primarily in Middle Tennessee and southern Kentucky. The Wolf River rises in the Holly Springs National Forest at Baker's Pond in Benton County, Mississippi, and flows northwest into Tennessee, before entering the Mississippi River north of downtown Memphis. In 1985, the Wolf River Conservancy was formed in opposition to plans for additional channel dredging. In 1995 the "Ghost River" section of the Wolf was saved from timber auction by a coordinated effort of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation, local conservation activists, and the Wolf River Conservancy. In 1997 the river was designated an American Heritage River by presidential proclamation under a special United States Environmental Protection Agency program. In that same year, musician Jeff Buckley accidentally drowned in the Wolf River while swimming in Memphis. In 2005 the Wolf River Restoration Project was commenced to stop rapid erosion at Collierville, Tennessee. The river serves to mitigate flooding and erosion, as habitat for wildlife, as a recreational area, as well as supplying clean water to an underground aquifer.

WREC (600 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station in Memphis, Tennessee. It broadcasts a talk radio format and is owned by iHeartMedia, Inc. The studios and offices are on Thousand Oaks Boulevard in Memphis. WREC is West Tennessee's primary entry point station for the Emergency Alert System. WREC is powered at 5,000 watts. It uses a directional antenna with a two-tower array. The transmitter is on North Watkins Street, near Interstate 40 in Memphis. Programming is simulcast on 250-watt FM translator W221CR at 92.1 MHz. The station is also heard on an HD radio digital subchannel of co-owned 102.7 WEGR.

Harbor Town is a new urbanist-style neighborhood in Memphis, Tennessee. Harbor Town sits atop 132 acres on a sandbar in the Mississippi River known as Mud Island. It was developed in 1989, and was a collaborative effort of Memphis developer Henry Turley, RTKL of Baltimore, and the Looney Ricks Kiss architectural firm from Memphis. The Henry Turley Company stated that the neighborhood intends to "emphasize the human rather than the automobile." Nowadays Harbor Town is considered dense and walkable, known for its traditional row houses, shops, parks, and marina.

Manassas High School is in Memphis, Tennessee. It was established in 1900. As of 2022 the school had about 420 students 96 percent of whom were black. The high school produced several prominent jazz musicians. In the 1920s, it was one of two high schools in Memphis for African Americans.It received Rosenwald School funding. Cora Taylor was its principal. In 1940 it was listed as a "Negro" school that taught Service Occupations. In 1954 it was listed as instructing auto mechanics. In 1946 the Tennessee Negro Athletic Association met in Nashville with the school's J. A. Hayes leading it. Boxer Joe Louis attended the school's 1948 football game against Booker T. Washington High School.In 1952 a study of the intelligence of the school's students was published. In 1953, a report on the reasons for drop-outs given by students, teachers and parents from the school was published. In 1971 a study of female students attitude towards physical education at the school was published. Louis B. Hobson was principal in 1972 when plans to make it a middle school in the wake of desegregation were proposed.Robert Samuel White Sr. wes the school's principal for 14 years during the 1980s and 1990s.The 2011 documentary film Undefeated is about the school's football team and its former coach, Bill Courtney. Its football team has made 12 championship appearances and won twice.

The Burkle Estate is a historic home at 826 North Second Street in Memphis, Tennessee. It is also known as the Slavehaven. Although disputed by some historians, the Burkle Estate is claimed to have been part of the Underground Railroad- a secret network of way stations to help slaves escape to freedom in the northern states. The house was constructed in 1849 by a German immigrant by the name of Jacob Burkle. Since 1997 the estate is home to the Slave Haven Underground Railroad Museum.

Uptown Memphis is a neighborhood located near downtown Memphis, Tennessee. In 1999, the Uptown Partnership renamed the historic North Memphis Greenlaw neighborhood "Uptown" in concert with a public-private revitalization effort that defined Uptown as one hundred city blocks east of the Wolf River and North of A.W. Willis Avenue. The historic Greenlaw section of this neighborhood consists of the thirty city blocks closest to the Wolf River (bordered by A.W. Willis Avenue to the south, North Seventh Street to the east, Keel Avenue and Chelsea Avenue to the north and the Wolf River to the west). Areas adjacent to Uptown include St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and the Pinch District.

The Porter-Leath House is a historic house in Memphis, Tennessee, USA. It has also been known as the Porter Leath Children's Center, which was originally chartered in 1850 as the Protestant Widows' and Orphans' Asylum. It was named after Dr David Tinsley Porter after he made a donation to the asylum in 1904. In 1951, it was renamed the Porter-Leath Home. Portions of the house were built in 1856, 1875, 1912, 1927 and 1929. The 1875 portion was designed by the architect E. C. Jones. It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since May 8, 1979.
