The Burkle Estate is a historic home at 826 North Second Street in Memphis, Tennessee. It is also known as the Slavehaven. Although disputed by some historians, the Burkle Estate is claimed to have been part of the Underground Railroad- a secret network of way stations to help slaves escape to freedom in the northern states. The house was constructed in 1849 by a German immigrant by the name of Jacob Burkle. Since 1997 the estate is home to the Slave Haven Underground Railroad Museum.

The Greenlaw Addition Historic District, in Memphis, Tennessee, is a historic district which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. It included 260 contributing buildings and 76 buildings deemed not to be contributing to its historic character.Most of the buildings were constructed between 1885 and 1915.It has a few large residences but most are modest one-story houses, including a concentration of shotgun houses". Various architectural styles are represented, including elements of Greek Revival, Gothic Revival, Italianate, Eastlake, Queen Anne, Romanesque, Colonial Revival, Four Square, Bungalow, and Mission" styles. Some commercial buildings, mostly neighborhood corner stores, are included.The district is roughly bounded by Bethel, Thomas, 7th, Auction, and 2nd Sts. in Memphis.It includes the George C. Love House, which is separately listed on the National Register.

The American Sound Studio was a recording studio located in Memphis, Tennessee which operated from 1964 to 1972. Founded by Chips Moman, the studio at 827 Thomas Street came to be known as American North, and the studio at 2272 Deadrick Street came to be known as American East or the Annex. More than one hundred hit songs were recorded at these studios, with backing provided by the studio musicians "The Memphis Boys", also known as the "827 Thomas Street Band". Artists who recorded at American Recording Studio's included Elvis Presley, Joe Tex, Wilson Pickett, Bobby Womack, Joe Simon, Merrilee Rush, Aretha Franklin, Oscar Toney Jr., Neil Diamond, Dusty Springfield, B. J. Thomas, Petula Clark, Roy Hamilton, and The Box Tops.

The George Collins Love House is a historic house in Memphis, Tennessee. It was built for its namesake, the interim mayor of Memphis in 1915–1916. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The American Lebanese Syrian Associated Charities (ALSAC) is an American nonprofit organization. Founded by entertainer Danny Thomas in 1957, its purpose is exclusively to raise funds for and awareness of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. ALSAC is the largest healthcare-related charity in the United States and raises 87% of St. Jude's annual operating budget from private donors. The ALSAC headquarters is located in Memphis, Tennessee. ALSAC also has over 30 local fundraising offices located in cities throughout the United States that hold over 30,000 fundraising events annually.

Harbor Town is a new urbanist-style neighborhood in Memphis, Tennessee. Harbor Town sits atop 132 acres on a sandbar in the Mississippi River known as Mud Island. It was developed in 1989, and was a collaborative effort of Memphis developer Henry Turley, RTKL of Baltimore, and the Looney Ricks Kiss architectural firm from Memphis. The Henry Turley Company stated that the neighborhood intends to "emphasize the human rather than the automobile." Nowadays Harbor Town is considered dense and walkable, known for its traditional row houses, shops, parks, and marina.

The Porter-Leath House is a historic house in Memphis, Tennessee, USA. It has also been known as the Porter Leath Children's Center, which was originally chartered in 1850 as the Protestant Widows' and Orphans' Asylum. It was named after Dr David Tinsley Porter after he made a donation to the asylum in 1904. In 1951, it was renamed the Porter-Leath Home. Portions of the house were built in 1856, 1875, 1912, 1927 and 1929. The 1875 portion was designed by the architect E. C. Jones. It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since May 8, 1979.

Humes Preparatory Academy Middle School, formerly the L. C. Humes High School, is a middle school located in Memphis, Tennessee. It has also been known as North Side High School and as L.C. Humes Junior High School. It was open as a high school from the 1930s through 1967 and later became a middle school in the Memphis City Schools district. In 2004, the school was listed on the National Register of Historic Places for "its significance in education to Memphis, Tennessee and its Collegiate Gothic design", the latter the work of noted architect George Awsumb.The school also has a connection to Elvis Presley, who graduated from the school in 1953. The school has numerous alumni from nearby Porter-Leath from its days as an orphanage and current foster care facility. In 2012, the school opened as a charter school run by Gestalt Community Schools. In 2017 it was announced that control of the school would be transferred to Frayser Community schools when Gestalt would exit after experiencing declining enrollment and funding.

Manassas High School is in Memphis, Tennessee. It was established in 1900. As of 2022 the school had about 420 students 96 percent of whom were black. The high school produced several prominent jazz musicians. In the 1920s, it was one of two high schools in Memphis for African Americans.It received Rosenwald School funding. Cora Taylor was its principal. In 1940 it was listed as a "Negro" school that taught Service Occupations. In 1954 it was listed as instructing auto mechanics. In 1946 the Tennessee Negro Athletic Association met in Nashville with the school's J. A. Hayes leading it. Boxer Joe Louis attended the school's 1948 football game against Booker T. Washington High School.In 1952 a study of the intelligence of the school's students was published. In 1953, a report on the reasons for drop-outs given by students, teachers and parents from the school was published. In 1971 a study of female students attitude towards physical education at the school was published. Louis B. Hobson was principal in 1972 when plans to make it a middle school in the wake of desegregation were proposed.Robert Samuel White Sr. wes the school's principal for 14 years during the 1980s and 1990s.The 2011 documentary film Undefeated is about the school's football team and its former coach, Bill Courtney. Its football team has made 12 championship appearances and won twice.

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is a pediatric treatment and research facility located in Memphis, Tennessee. Founded by entertainer Danny Thomas in 1962, it is a 501(c)(3) designated nonprofit medical corporation which focuses on children's catastrophic diseases, particularly leukemia and other cancers. In the 2021 fiscal year, St. Jude received $2 billion in donations. Daily operating costs average $1.7 million, but patients are not charged for care. St. Jude treats patients up to age 21, and for some conditions, up to age 25.

The Memphis Pyramid, formerly known as the Great American Pyramid and the Pyramid Arena, is a pyramid-shaped building located in downtown Memphis, Tennessee, United States, at the bank of the Mississippi River. Built in 1991 as a 20,142-seat arena, the facility was owned and operated jointly by the city of Memphis and Shelby County; Shelby County sold its share to Memphis in April 2009. Its structure plays on the city's namesake in Egypt, which is known for its ancient pyramids. It is 321 feet (98 m) (about 32 stories) tall and has base sides of 591 feet (180 m); it is by some measures the tenth-tallest pyramid in the world.The Memphis Pyramid has not been regularly used as a sports or entertainment venue since 2007. In 2015, the Pyramid re-opened as a Bass Pro Shops megastore, which included shopping, a hotel, restaurants, a bowling alley, and an archery range, with an outdoor observation deck adjacent to its apex.

In 1832, the city of Memphis, Tennessee deeded the church a site at the corner of Poplar Avenue and Third Street (now called B.B. King). The present building was built in 1884 and was designed by architect Edward Culliatt Jones and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
