Royal High School, Edinburgh

Barnton Quarry is a disused stone quarry in Corstorphine Hill, Clermiston, Edinburgh, Scotland. The site was later used as a military command centre, and is now being converted into a museum. Stone was extracted from the quarry until 1914. During the Second World War, the Royal Air Force (RAF) built a Fighter Command operations room in the quarry. In 1952, during the Cold War, this facility was expanded into a central coordination facility for radar stations throughout Scotland. The military authorities closed the site and in 1983 and transferred ownership to the local council. The site was subsequently vandalised and damaged by fire. The site is now being cleaned and restored with the goal of creating a local Cold War museum and education centre. The project is being undertaken by volunteers, with funding from the owners of Scotland's Secret Bunker, a disused bunker near Anstruther which is now run as a tourist attraction.

Clermiston is a suburb of Edinburgh, Scotland, to the west of the city and to the immediate north of Corstorphine, on the western slopes of Corstorphine Hill. Clermiston estate, built from 1954 onwards, was part of a major 1950s house-building programme to tackle overcrowding in Leith and Gorgie. The area is now home to more than 20,000 people, and abuts onto Drumbrae, Clerwood and Corstorphine.

Lauriston Castle is a 16th-century tower house with 19th-century extensions overlooking the Firth of Forth, in Edinburgh, Scotland. It lies on Cramond Road South, between Cramond, Davidson's Mains, and Silverknowes. The substantial grounds, Lauriston Castle Gardens, operate as a local park. The castle was bequeathed to the Edinburgh Corporation (post 1975 known as Edinburgh City Council) and hosts the Lord Provost's annual Garden Party. The house is a Category A listed building and the grounds are included in the Inventory of Gardens and Designed Landscapes in Scotland.

Parkgrove is a suburb of Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland. Approximately 4 miles north-west of Edinburgh city centre. The suburb is located between the neighbouring areas of Clermiston, Barnton and Davidson's Mains. Parkgrove houses local amenities including Clermiston Primary School, Parkgrove Medical Centre, Barnton Dental Spa and the Munro Community Centre. Local shops are located on Parkgrove Street, consisting of the local newsagents, deli and barber shop, with Parkgrove Shopping Centre situated on Queensferry Road, housing a Tesco Express, Baines Bakers, Omnicare Pharmacy, Majestic Wine Warehouse and Tony Macaroni Italian restaurant.

Davidson's Mains is a former village and now a district in the north-west of Edinburgh, Scotland. It is adjacent to the districts of Barnton, Cramond, Silverknowes, Blackhall and Corbiehill/House O'Hill. It was absorbed into Edinburgh as part of the boundary changes in 1920 and is part of the EH4 postcode area. Locals sometimes abbreviate the name to D'Mains or even simply Dmains.

Drumbrae or Drum Brae (Scottish Gaelic: Druim Bràigh) is the name of a suburb of west Edinburgh, Scotland generally considered to be part of the neighbouring larger areas of Corstorphine and Clermiston. This is a commuter settlement as many people who live in the area travel to the centre of town to attend work. The name appears to derive from the Scottish Gaelic Druim Bràigh meaning "the brow of the ridge" and this ridge can still be seen today, and is an extension of Corstorphine Hill.In the area there is much housing, a primary school, a leisure centre which serves much of the west of Edinburgh, a library/community hub which serves all of the clermiston/drumbrae area and some shopping facilities. A gala is also held once a year at Drumbrae Leisure Centre which brings many people from the local communities of Clermiston, East Craigs Corstorphine and barnton together. Drumbrae Primary School was closed in June 2010 despite long campaigns by the local community to prevent it from closing. Most of the children were moved to nearby Clermiston and East Craigs Primary Schools. Most of Drum Brae is served by The Royal High School and the area of Drum Brae further west and closer to Corstorphine is served by Craigmount High School. The nearest Roman Catholic schools are Fox Covert R.C. Primary School and St. Augustine's High School. Drum Brae has become a more popular area to live in recent years as people move away from the centre of Edinburgh. The area contains a diverse range of socioeconomic backgrounds. From affluent retired households to lower income families but a few streets away. Many are employed, usually in service industries but there is also a high rate of crime in the area.

Silverknowes is a district of Edinburgh, Scotland. Silverknowes lies to the northwest of the city. The district contains over 2000 homes, ranging in size from bungalow to semi-detached housing, much of it built during the mid-twentieth century. It holds the EH4 postcode. Silverknowes is surrounded by Davidson's Mains (former village) to the south, Barnton, Lauriston to the west, and Muirhouse to the east.

Cramond Roman Fort is a Roman-Era archaeological site at Cramond, Edinburgh, Scotland. The settlement may be the "Rumabo" listed in the 7th-century Ravenna Cosmography. The fort was established around 140 AD and occupied until around 170 AD, with a further period of occupation from around 208 to 214 AD. Among the many archaeological finds, one of the most famous is a sculpture known as the Cramond Lioness.

Corstorphine Hill is a low ridge-shaped hill rising above the western suburbs of Edinburgh, Scotland. Although there has been residential and commercial development on its lower slopes, especially in the south and west, most of the hill is occupied by a local nature reserve, consisting of extensive broadleaf woodland, accessible to the public. The hill, which is composed largely of dolerite, was formed by the west-to-east movement of glaciers during the Pleistocene period. There is evidence of prehistoric settlement. Today the hill is popular with walkers, dog-walkers and joggers. Among its interesting features are a 19th-Century tower, a walled garden and a Cold War bunker.

Craigcrook is a suburb of Edinburgh, Scotland, best known for Craigcrook Castle. It is fairly affluent, and lies on the north east slopes of Corstorphine Hill. It is near Clerwood, and Blackhall. Davidson's Mains lies to the north, separated from the district by the A90 - Queensferry Road. Apart from Craigcrook Castle and a few isolated farm buildings the area was featureless until 1920, when it became part of the several open lands (including Craigentinny and Drylaw) acquired by the then Edinburgh Corporation and used for low density bungalow development. The low density and distance from the city centre renders the area difficult to support local small shops and public transport. There are no supermarkets whatsoever within the district, but the adjoining districts of Davidson's Mains and Blackhall (Craigleith) cater to local needs.
