Langesund Church

is the administrative centre of Bamble Municipality in Telemark county, Norway. The town is located on a peninsula along the Langesundsfjorden near the Skaggerak coast. The town of Stathelle lies about 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) to the northwest. The 0.88-square-kilometre (220-acre) town was established as a ladested in 1765 and on 1 January 1838 it became a self-governing municipality. In 1964, it became part of Bamble Municipality.For a long time, Langesund and neighboring Stathelle have been grouped together as part of the Porsgrunn/Skien metropolitan area and because of this, the population and area data for this town has not been separately tracked by Statistics Norway. What is tracked, is the portion of the metropolitan area located in Bamble Municipality. In 2022, the Langesund/Stathelle area in Bamble measured 6.34 square kilometres (1,570 acres) and together they had a population of 10,276 with a population density of 1,622 inhabitants per square kilometre (4,200/sq mi).It is possible to visit the remains of the old Coastal Fortress on Langesundstangen on the extreme end of the Langesund peninsula. The fort was established during the Second World War by Nazi Germany and later used by the Norwegian Coastal Artillery and Home Guard until 1993. Langesund is one of the most celebrated summer towns in Norway because of the large number of sunny days. It is also well known for Wrightegaarden, a building that hosts outdoor concerts every weekend the whole summer. Artists like Bob Dylan, A-ha, Elton John and Little Richard have played in Wrightegaarden. Langesund marks the border between Ytre Oslofjord and Skagerrak.

Sandøya is an island in Porsgrunn Municipality in Vestfold og Telemark county, Norway. The 1.5-square-kilometre (0.58 sq mi) island lies just west of the smaller island of Løvøya and about 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) to the east of the town of Brevik. The island lies at the mouth of the Eidangerfjorden, near where the Frierfjorden joins it to form the Langesundsfjorden. The island is only accessible by boat.Most of the island's residents live on the southern part of the island, while the northern part of the island is heavily forested. The main urban area on the southwestern shore of the island is known as the village of Sandøya. The 0.31-square-kilometre (77-acre) village has a population (2022) of 262 and a population density of 840 inhabitants per square kilometre (2,200/sq mi). The remainder of the islands residents live right on the shore of the island.

Arøya is a group of three small islands in Larvik Municipality in Vestfold county, Norway. They are located in the outer part of the Langesundsfjorden approximately midway between the town of Langesund (in Bamble Municipality in Telemark) and the village of Helgeroa in Larvik. The three islands are named Store Arøya, Lille Arøya, and Vesle Arøya ('Big', 'Small' and 'Tiny' Arøya). The islands of Arøya are a recreational cottage area for the population in the Grenland, Vestfold, and even as far away as Oslo, about a 90-minute drive away. There are still a few families residing on the islands, where fishing is the prime source of income. In the summer season, a local ferry (Skjæløy) connects Helgeroa with Langesund. The ferry makes several stops on the islands. The trip is frequently used by tourists going roundtrip for a great view of the area. Bikers also use the ferry as a shortcut connection to the southern shores of Norway.

It is the church for the Stathelle parish which is part of the Bamble prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The white and gray, brick church was built in a rectangular design in 1964 using plans drawn up by the architect Bjørn Ljungberg. The church seats about 260 people.

Brevik Church (Norwegian: Brevik kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Porsgrunn Municipality in Vestfold og Telemark county, Norway. It is located in the village of Brevik. It is one of the churches for the Eidanger parish which is part of the Skien prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The grey, concrete church was built in a rectangular design in 1963 using plans drawn up by the architect Gudolf Blakstad. The church seats about 450 people.

Brevik (Norwegian pronunciation: [ˈbrêːviːk] ) is a town in Porsgrunn Municipality in Vestfold og Telemark county, Norway. The town is located where the Eidangerfjorden and Frierfjorden join together to form the Breviksfjorden. Brevik is regarded as one of the best preserved towns from the sailing ship era. The town is located on the far end of Eidanger peninsula (Eidangerhalvøya), and was a former export centre for ice and timber. The last shipment of wood to the United Kingdom was around 1960.Brevik is located about 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) to the south of the town of Porsgrunn in a very large urban area. Brevik has an estimated population of 2,100 in the year 2020. It is considered part of the Porsgrunn/Skien metropolitan area by Statistics Norway, so Brevik's population is not tracked separately.Brevik has significant industry, including cement production (Norcem, formerly Dalen Portland Cementfabrik, which is Norway's largest cement factory), workshop industry, food industry (among others Diplom-ice), and mining (Kjørholt limestone mine, which is Norway's largest mine). The town is located on the mainland and also on the small island of Sylterøya. There is a bridge over the strait between Sylterøya and the mainland. The town hall, which is an old farm estate, and Brevik Church are located on Sylterøya. Brevik has narrow and crooked streets with interesting, irregular buildings.

Brevik Station (Norwegian: Brevik stasjon) is a former railway station located at Strømtangen in the village of Brevik in Porsgrunn, Norway. It served as the terminus of the Brevik Line from 16 October 1895 to the station closed on 1 December 1982. The station building is designed by Paul Due in Romanesque style, is preserved and has been listed as a cultural heritage site. There was a major political discussion if the station should be located at Strømtangen or Setretangen. Construction commenced in 1893 and opened on 15 October 1895. The station initially saw heavy intercity traffic as it served the coastal ferries onwards to Agder until 1927. The main traffic was however a commuter train service to Porsgrunn and Skien, which operated until 1 February 1964. All passenger transport ceased on 26 May 1968. The station building was renovated in the late 1980s and is now used for office space.

Håøya is an island in Porsgrunn Municipality in Telemark county, Norway. The 2.4-square-kilometre (0.93 sq mi) island is located in the Langesundsfjorden, about 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) east of the town of Langesund (in Bamble Municipality). About 1.8 square kilometres (0.69 sq mi) of the island (most of the island) is protected as a nature reserve. Håøya nature reserve was established in 2002 to preserve a coastal landscape with a large variety of little affected forest types, including the southernmost natural beech forest in the country. Historically, the island had permanent residents and its own school. Today, there are no permanent residents, but there are many holiday cottages for vacationers. The island is known for having summer camps arranged by Oluf Reed-Olsen.

Grenland is a traditional district in Telemark county, in the south-east of Norway. "Grenland" has referred to varying locations throughout history. In modern times, Grenland refers to the areas of the municipalities of Skien, Porsgrunn, Bamble, and Siljan. Sometimes the municipalities Kragerø and Drangedal are also considered to be part of the area. The region encompasses 1,794 square kilometres (693 sq mi) and has 122,978 inhabitants (2004), which translates as 12% of the area and 64% of the population of Telemark.Grenland is the core area of a slightly larger traditional district known as Nedre Telemark ("Lower Telemark") which includes all of Grenland plus Midt-Telemark Municipality and the Heddal area of Notodden Municipality.Grenland is also used as the name of an urban agglomeration consisting of the cities of Skien and Porsgrunn.
