Hendreddu quarry

Mynydd Hendre-ddu or Mynydd Hendreddu is a mountain in southern Snowdonia, Wales. It is one of a line of mountains running from Mynydd Dolgoed in the north, through Mynydd Llwydiarth to Mynydd Hendre-ddu and on to Mynydd y Foel, Y Grug, Mynydd Tri-Arglwyd and Mynydd Gwyn to the south of the village of Aberangell. It forms the watershed between Nant Llwydiarth, which flows to the south-west and into the Afon Dulas, and streams flowing into Afon Angell to the north, which flow east into the River Dyfi. The summit is notable for a set of parallel ridges about 80 centimetres (31 in) across and 130 metres (430 ft) long that run across it.On the northern slope of the mountain lay the Hendreddu quarry which was connected to Aberangell by the Hendre-Ddu Tramway. It is a long ridge running from a low summit between the valleys of the Afon Angell and the Nant Ceiswyn, north east to the cliff of Craig Portas above Dinas Mawddwy. The next mountain in the ridge to south-east is Mynydd Hendre-ddu, while to the south lie Mynydd Llwydiarth and Mynydd Cymerau. It is one of the Dyfi hills.

Ratgoed quarry (also known as Alltgoed quarry) was the northernmost of the slate quarries served by the Corris Railway. It is one mile north of Aberllefenni in Gwynedd, Mid Wales, on the western side of Mynydd Llwydiarth. The quarry primarily worked the Narrow Vein, though it also produced some Broad Vein slates.

Cribin Fawr is a mountain in Snowdonia, North Wales, situated approximately four miles to the south-west of Aran Fawddwy. It is one of the peaks in the Dyfi hills, a subgroup of the Cadair Idris group. It is a top of Maesglase, connected to its parent peak by the Craig Portas ridge. The top of Cribin Fawr is a large open plateau of peat bog. To the west is Waun-oer, to the north Cadair Idris, to the south Maesglase and Glasgwm to the east.

Waun-oer is a mountain in Snowdonia, North Wales, situated approximately four miles to the south-west of Aran Fawddwy. It is one of the peaks in the Dyfi hills, a subgroup of the Cadair Idris group. It is a top of Maesglase and the summit consists of a trig point that crowns an uneven grassy plateau. It is connected to Cribin Fawr to the east and Mynydd Ceiswyn to the south. To the north lies Cadair Idris, while Tarren y Gesail lies to the west.

Maesglase is a mountain in Snowdonia, North Wales, situated approximately four miles to the south-west of Aran Fawddwy. It is the highest of the Dyfi Hills.It can be reached by an easy but steep walk through the forestry from Dinas Mawddwy or directly from the bwlch on the A470. Ascending Maesglase provides an opportunity to climb several other nearby peaks including Maen-Du, Craig Rhiw-erch, Waun-oer, Craig Portas and Cribin Fawr which are linked by a series of ridges and arêtes. The precise location of the summit is the subject of some confusion. Traditionally, the top of Maen Du (674 metres (2,211 ft) at SH823152) was regarded as Maesglase's summit. However, more recent surveys suggest that the top of Craig Rhiw-erch (c 676 metres (2,218 ft) at SH817150, some 600 metres (2,000 ft) to the west) is higher. A recent survey puts it at 678.5 metres (2,226 ft). The geomorphology of these mountains is classical U-shaped glacial valleys with textbook examples of hanging valleys and intersecting valleys. The eastern slopes are devoted to sheep farming whilst the western slopes are intensively forested. Above the semi-improved grassland is some bracken but much of the higher ground is covered in typical Calluna / Erica communities interspersed with large areas of Juncus, Carex and Sphagnum bogs. The tops of Cribin Fawr are flat expanses of peat-hags. On the eastern flanks Bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus) grows in abundance with Cowberry (Vaccinium vitis-idaea) common on the highest ground. Half a mile to the west of the peak of Cribin Fawr at a high point of 659 metres (2,162 ft) is a stone boundary marker dated 1861 and inscribed CCC and bearing a benchmark. Maesglase waterfall has a total height of 160 metres (520 ft). To the south lie the parallel ridges leading to Mynydd Dolgoed and Mynydd Gartheiniog. It is a long ridge running south from the cliff of Craig Portas above Dinas Mawddwy and parallel to Mynydd Dolgoed which lies to the west. The Gartheiniog slate quarry sits on its eastern flank, and was served by the Hendre-Ddu Tramway.It is one of the Dyfi hills.

Gartheiniog quarry was a slate quarry served by the Hendre Ddu Tramway. It is located about a mile west of Aberangell in Merioneth (now Gwynedd), North Wales near the confluence of the Nant Maesygamfa and the Afon Angell. It worked the Narrow Vein, the highest-quality slate vein in the Abercorris Group.

The Nant Ceiswyn (sometimes known as the Afon Ceiswyn) is a small river in Mid Wales. It flows from the northern flank of Mynydd Dolgoed down to Pont Cymerau, north-east of Aberllefenni. Here it joins the Nant Llwydiarth to form the Afon Dulas that flows south to the Afon Dyfi. There was an ancient bridge at Pont Cymerau.The valley of the river is often known as Cwm Ratgoed (or Ralltgoed), after the Ratgoed slate quarry about two miles north of Pont Cymerau. The quarry was connected to the Corris Railway at Aberllefenni by the horse-worked Ratgoed Tramway, which crossed the river as it passes Cymerau Quarry.To the east of the valley is Mynydd Ceiswyn, part of the chain of ridges running southwards from Maesglase.
