St Paul's Place

Pinstone Street is a part-pedestrianised road located in Sheffield, England. It connects the two main shopping areas of Fargate and The Moor in the centre of the city. Originally called Pinstone Lane, its eastern side contains Sheffield Town Hall and the Peace Gardens. The western side of the street was to be redeveloped as part of the Sevenstone project which was postponed as a result of the Late-2000s recession and later cancelled in 2013. The scheme was later replaced by a new scheme named Heart of the City II which is currently underway.

St Paul's Church, Sheffield, was a chapel of ease to Sheffield Parish Church. By 1700, Sheffield's population had reached 5,000, and a second Anglican place of worship was required to house a growing congregation. A site on the southern edge of the town was selected, facing on to Pinstone Lane (later redeveloped as Pinstone Street). A public subscription was raised, and St Paul's was largely completed by 1721. The church was built in the Baroque style, with the street frontage dominated by an Italianate tower. The chapel had seating for 1,200 people. A dispute over patronage prevented the chapel from opening until 1740. Robert Downes, a local goldsmith, had paid £1,000 towards its construction and promised a further £30 a year, on condition that he and his descendants would have the right to appoint its minister. However, the Vicar of Sheffield objected that, as St Paul's was a chapel of ease to his own church, he had the right to appoint a minister. In 1739, angered by the stand-off, Downes threatened to open the building as a chapel for Dissenters. A compromise was finally reached that the Vicar would have the right to choose the minister, but that the first minister would be a relative of Downes. This required an Act of Parliament, following which, it was consecrated to Saint Paul on 22 May 1740.A John Snetzler organ was installed in 1755. A dome was added to the chapel's tower in 1769. In 1824, the church was placed in its own parish. A memorial to Reverend Alexander Mackenzie, designed by Francis Legatt Chantrey, was added around this time.Following the trend of supposed slum clearance in the 1930s, the church's congregation dwindled, and St Paul's closed in 1937. It was demolished the following year, and the St Paul's Gardens were laid out on the site, later becoming known as the Peace Gardens. The organ was removed to All Saints in Wingerworth, while the Chantrey memorial was moved to Sheffield Cathedral. Many of the remains in the burial ground were relocated to Abbey Lane Cemetery.Some of the old stone was repurposed by the contractor who demolished the church, and can still be seen in a row of houses built in suburbs west of the city.

The Heart of the City was a £130 million major re-development in Sheffield, England begun in 2004, and completed in 2016 and one of the 12 official quarters of Sheffield City Centre. As its name suggests the Heart of the City is located in the heart of the city centre. Heart of the City was mainly developed by Sheffield One, an Urban Regeneration Company set up in February 2000 to facilitate the redevelopment. The Heart of the City scheme has created many new public spaces, buildings, and skyscrapers. Subsequent review found that it satisfied many of the goals for a successful city laid out in the "Sheffield First" plan.

Redvers House is an office block situated on Union Street in the centre of the city of Sheffield in South Yorkshire, England. Redvers House was built in 1971 by the construction firm Newman Doncaster Associates. It is owned by Sheffield City Council and the top 11 stories are used as offices by certain sections of their Social Services department as offices. Among the branches of the department that use Redvers House are Family And Community Services, Sheffield Safeguarding Children Board, Residential Accommodation Bed Bureau, Sheffield Adult Protection and the Child Protection Office. Redvers House has a height of 54 metres (177 feet) and has 14 floors. The original building consisted of much copper tinted glass, however the building received a major refurbishment in 2005 which include the exterior being re-clad in its present light grey and aqua colour scheme. The refurbishment which was carried out by the Leeds based building contractor Irwins cost £7,000,000 and also included complete renovation of the offices, staircases and toilet facilities.The lower three stories of the building incorporates a Nisbetts retail store which faces onto Furnival Gate. In late October 2014 Redvers House came up for sale with a £7,000,000 asking price with Sheffield City Council intending to vacate the building by the end of 2014. The agents in charge of the sale stated that Redvers House could remain as offices or be converted to residential apartments. The building was vacated, following the relocation of Council departments to the Moorfoot Building. Redvers House was subsequently converted in residential accommodation for students and young professionals.

Midcity Tower (previously known by its street address, 23 Furnival Gate) is an approved tower in Sheffield, England. Plans were submitted in 2005 and accepted later the same year. Construction is yet to start as of 2016, and proposed plans would mean the demolition of 'The Nelson' public house.If completed, the tower would be 65 m (213 ft) tall, with the top floor at a height of 62 m (205 ft). The proposed building would contain 20 floors, with 19 being above ground and one below, as well as two elevators. The ground floor would have a concourse and retail space, the floor below ground having storage space and all other floors containing a total of 90 apartments.The architect for the planned building is Hadfield Cawkwell Davidson, with the developers designated as W D King Group.

Sheffield Town Hall is a municipal building on Pinstone Street in the City of Sheffield, England. The building is used by Sheffield City Council, and also contains a publicly displayed collection of silverware. It is a Grade I listed building.

Millennium Square is a modern city square in Sheffield, England. It was created as part of the Heart of the City project that began in 1998 and has become a central feature in Sheffield's redeveloped city centre. It contains fountains in the shape of steel spheres, recalling Sheffield's past as a centre of the steel making industry, whilst linking with the fountains of the Peace Gardens, as well as Sheaf Square, Hallam Square and Barkers Pool. The square forms part of the 'Gold Route', designed by Sheffield City Council to guide visitors through the city centre from Sheffield Station to Devonshire Green.Part of the space now part of the square was previously occupied by the Town Hall Extension. This building, constructed in the 1970s, was demolished in the early 2000s to make way for the wave of new developments in the Heart of the City project. The Square, which is in fact triangular, was designed by Architects Allies and Morrison and is surrounded by new developments on three sides and the redeveloped Peace Gardens on the remaining side. The surface of the square is made up of a suspended concrete slab covered with granite and sandstone paving. The surface is covered with hundreds of LED lights which are used to illuminate both square itself and the steel water features throughout it. The square is intended to form a link between the Winter and Peace Gardens and also the St Paul's Place development, which is home to Sheffield's tallest building. The square is surrounded in all sides by new or renovated structures, with the Peace Gardens and Town Hall on one side and a multitude of new buildings on the three remaining sides.

St Paul's Tower is a skyscraper located on Arundel Gate in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. Construction commenced in May 2006 and the building was topped out in August 2010, surpassing Sheffield University's Arts Tower as the tallest building in Sheffield at 101 metres (331 ft) tall. The city's first skyscraper, it was constructed as the centrepiece of the St Paul's Place project as part of the Heart of the City redevelopment of Sheffield city centre. The tower is set to be overtaken as the tallest building in Sheffield by the under-construction Code Sheffield development at 117m (384ft), which will also become the tallest building in Yorkshire upon completion.

In 2011, the unparished area had a population of 490,070.The city has a long sporting heritage and is home both to the world's oldest football club, Sheffield F.C., and the world's oldest football ground, Sandygate. Matches between the two professional clubs, Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday, are known as the Steel City derby. The city is also home to the World Snooker Championship and the Sheffield Steelers, the UK's first professional ice hockey team.

Seven Hills Shul (transliteration from Hebrew as "Kehillat Shivah Harim"), is a Reform Jewish community, that worships from rented premises located in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England, in the United Kingdom. The congregation holds services at a local community centre and also meets in members' houses. Founded in 1989 as Sheffield & District Reform Jewish Congregation, the congregation is a member of the Movement for Reform Judaism.

The Gate is a residential tower located at 1 Eyre Street in Sheffield, England. Plans were submitted in 2006 and accepted that year. Construction started in 2007, however the project was placed on hold in January 2009 as a result of the Great Recession. Construction resumed in 2017; The Gate was topped out in 2019, and completed in the summer of 2020. Originally proposed as an office tower known as 1 Furnival Square, the tower was proposed as a single project also encompassing a 43 metres (141 ft) Jurys Inn hotel adjacent, with the two towers sharing ground floor retail space. Construction of the 11-storey hotel continued as a separate project after the office tower was placed on hold, and Jurys Inn Sheffield opened in 2010. The tower was subsequently revived as a residential tower containing university student accommodation, renamed The Gate. The Gate consists of 21 floors taking it to a height of 64 metres (210 ft), making it Sheffield's seventh-tallest building. It has four lifts.

The Wheel of Sheffield is a 60-metre (197 ft) tall transportable Ferris wheel installation on Fargate, by City Hall, in Sheffield, England. It first appeared from July 2009 until November 2010 and is now erected seasonally as a temporary structure. It opened on 20 July 2009, and was intended to remain until January 2010. However, planning permission was sought for a further year of operation, and permission was granted for it to remain until January 2011. This date however was brought forward to October 2010, when the operator planned to dismantle the wheel and relocate it to Hyde Park, London. The Wheel of Sheffield closed on 31 October 2010, and it was completely dismantled by 20 November 2010. It had 42 passenger cars, each with an 8-person capacity, and was operated by World Tourist Attractions. One revolution on the wheel took around 13 minutes. It also featured a commentary pointing out local landmarks and places of interest.
