Howey Mansion

Mission Inn Resort & Club, originally called "Floridian Country Club" until 1964, is a public golf resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. It consists of two 18-hole courses: El Campeón (The Champion), built in 1917, and Las Colinas (The Hills), built in 1992.

Howey-In-The-Hills is a town in Lake County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,643 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Yalaha is an unincorporated area and census-designated place (CDP) in Lake County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,364 at the 2010 census, up from 1,175 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Lake Harris is a lake in Lake County, Florida, United States, 31 miles (50 km) northwest of Orlando. It is part of the Upper Ocklawaha River Basin, a sub-watershed of the St. Johns River. It is one of seven lakes in the Harris Chain of Lakes or "Ocklawaha Chain of Lakes". Lake Harris is the largest lake entirely in Lake County at 13,788 acres (56 km2). Little Lake Harris is a bay located east of SR 19; the combined area of the two lakes exceeds 15,000 acres (61 km2). The lake's northeastern shore is a landing approach zone for Leesburg International Airport. It is a harbor city for Leesburg, at the northwestern shore of the lake. At the westernmost point of the lake is U.S. Route 27/SR 25. Lake Harris' primary inflow is at its southwestern shore from the Palatlakaha River, which originates from the Clermont chain of lakes to the south. Other inflowing rivers include Helena Run and discharge from many small springs in Yalaha. Lake Harris' depth is much greater than Lake Okeechobee to the south, with many deeper holes and ledges. The lake is surrounded by sandhills and cypress trees, part of the Central Florida Ridge. This region has the highest elevations in Central Florida, including Sugarloaf Mountain reaching 312 feet (95 m) above sea level. Compared to the rest of Florida, which is relatively flat, it is quite hilly. There are three public launching ramps on Lake Harris; off U.S. Route 27 to the west, Venetian Gardens in Leesburg, and Hickory Point near the Howey-in-the-Hills bridge off SR 19. There is a small but serviceable ramp on the east side of Little Lake Harris in Astatula. The lake is generally lined with cattail and bullrush. The depth in these tall grasses normally ranges from 2 to 5 feet (0.61 to 1.52 m). The bottom is mostly hard sand, except for some marshy areas where the bottom is considerably softer. These sheltered areas around the shore can offer a good place to fish during inclement weather. Lake Harris derives its name from Ebenezer Jackson Harris (1815–1885), a pioneer resident who lived at Yalaha on the south side of the lake in the 1840s. Lake Harris had been originally called "Lake Eustis" since 1823, in honor of Colonel Abraham Eustis. A freshwater lake to the north, the modern-day Lake Eustis, now honors the veteran officer. Lake Eustis is connected by the Dead River directly to Lake Harris, which was also known by its Seminole name Astatula.

Lake County is a county in the central portion of the U.S. state of Florida. As of the 2020 census, the population was 383,956. Its county seat is Tavares, and its largest city is Clermont. Lake County is included in the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Sugarloaf Mountain is the fifth-highest named point and the most prominent point in the U.S. state of Florida. At 312 feet (95.0976 m) above sea level it is also the highest point on the geographic Florida Peninsula. The hill is in Lake County, near the town of Clermont.

Tavares (, tuh-VAIR-ees) is a city and the county seat of Lake County, Florida. The population at the 2020 census was 19,003, and in 2019 the population was estimated to be 17,749. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The Old Lake County Courthouse (constructed in 1922) is a historic courthouse in Tavares, Florida, located at 315 West Main Street. On September 25, 1998, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. The Lake County Historical Museum is located on the first floor of the courthouse. The museum's exhibits focus on the county's history and cultural heritage.

Opened in 1995, the Lake County Museum of Art (LCMA) exhibits historic, contemporary artwork from local, regional, and national sources. LCMA is the first art museum in Lake County dedicated wholly to visual art.

The Dead River, found in Lake County, Florida, USA, serves as the division between the cities of Tavares and Leesburg. It received its name due to lack of a current. Studies have shown that a simple john boat can remain in nearly the same position if left on the river overnight with less than five feet of drift. The Dead River connects Lake Eustis and Lake Harris. The only roadway to cross the river is U.S. Highway 441/SR 44 near the river's northern mouth toward Lake Eustis. There is one business located directly on the river. Hurricanes Dockside Grill (2017) previously known as Dead River Vic's (1999), Harbor Side (2006), Nates River Deck (2008) and JJ Fin's (2009). For a historical look at Lake County waters, this was written in the 1930s: Amid the slopes and waters of beautiful Lake County, are Leesburg, Eustis, Tavares, and Mount Dora, all possessed of excellent tourist accommodations and such natural and man-made beauty, combined with all sorts of sport advantages, that the sport-loving visitor is thrilled. Bass fishing surpasses anything you have ever known in that line. Citrus fruits and other products abound. Golf courses are found in every community. As an all-year resort section, this is hard to equal. On June 18, 2003, Brian Griffin, 12, was killed by a 10' 4" alligator while swimming in the Dead River near a boat ramp.

The Tavares, Eustis & Gulf Railroad (TE&G), advertised as the Orange Blossom Cannonball, was a tourist railroad company operating excursion trains on historic track owned by the Florida Central Railroad, from October 2011 to late March 2017. It had stops in three cities in the northern portion of Central Florida. The TE&G was a subsidiary of the Reader Railroad, based in Arkansas.
