Shankharibazar massacre (Bengali: শাঁখারীবাজার গণহত্যা) was a massacre of the Hindus of the Shankharibazar area of Old Dhaka on 26 March 1971 by the Pakistani occupation army. The survivors fled to the villages on the other side of the Buriganga, in the region now known as Keraniganj. Shankharibazar became deserted and dead bodies remained on the streets for quite a long time. The Pakistani establishment renamed the Shankharibazar Road to Tikka Khan Road.

Shankhari Bazaar is one of the oldest areas in Old Dhaka. It stretches along a narrow lane, lined with richly decorated brick buildings, built during the late Mughal or Colonial period.

Jagannath University (JnU) (Bengali: জগন্নাথ বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় Jagannātha biśbabidyālaẏa, University Acrostic : জবি or JnU) is a state-funded public university at 9–10, Chittaranjan Avenue in Sadarghat, Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. Even though it is one of the most famous and academically one of the best universities in Bangladesh, JnU is the only non-residential University in this country Jagannath University is in the southern part of Dhaka city near the River Buriganga and a new super modern campus of approximately 200 acres is being built at Keraniganj. Total campus area is more than 210 acres with three campus and a girls residence hall.

Pogose Laboratory School and College, IER, Jagannath University (Bengali: পোগোজ ল্যাবরেটরি স্কুল এন্ড কলেজ ,আ.ই.আর,জগন্নাথ বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়) was established in Dhaka on June 12, 1848, as the first private school of the country by Armenian merchant Nicholas Pogose, who was an ex-student of Dhaka Collegiate School. It is located at Chittaranjan Avenue. The school was managed as a proprietary institution and in 1871, about a year after the death of Pogose, it was taken over by Mohini Mohan Das, a banker and zamindar. After the death of Das in 1896 his estate kept the school open.

Beauty Lacchi and Faluda is a store that was established on 15 June 1922 in Dacca, Bengal Presidency, British Raj (now Dhaka, Bangladesh). It was opened by Abdul Aziz in the purpose of selling Lassi and Lemonade.

Dhaka National Medical College is a private medical college in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It was founded in 1925 as the Dhaka National Medical Institute which was then situated near Bahadur Shah Park. Following the 1972 independence of Bangladesh, the educational function of the Dhaka National Medical Institute became moribund, although the associated hospital remained active. A medical college capability was restored with the creation of the Dhaka National Medical College. It was inaugurated on 15 October 1994 and opened to its first students. It has a 850-bed multidisciplinary hospital complex adjacent to the academic building. The college offers a five-year course of study, approved by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC), leading to a Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree from Dhaka University. After passing the final professional examination, there is a compulsory one-year internship. Dhaka national medical college offers MBBS course to students from India as well.

St Thomas Church is an Anglican Church which is also known as the Church of Bangladesh . The church premise was in an area of lush greeneries with the famous Bahadur Shah Park at a stone's throw distance on the south. The north–south axial Nawabpur Road/Johnson Road, the most important commercial street connecting the old part of the city with the new, is on the west and separated the area from the court, Bank, DC's office and Jagannath University buildings across it. In fact the church overlooking the greens is a major focal of the city centre in the nineteenth century.

Bangsal (Bengali: বংশাল) is a Thana of Dhaka District in the Division of Dhaka, Bangladesh. It was formed in September 2009 from part of Kotwali Thana.

Kabi Nazrul Government College (KNGC) is a governmental college located in Laxmi Bazar, Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. It was formerly known as Govt. Kabi Nazrul College. It offers higher secondary education (HSC). It has bachelor's degree and master's degree programmes as well; these divisions are affiliated with the University of Dhaka.

Dhaka Government Muslim High School (Bengali: ঢাকা গভঃ মুসলিম হাই স্কুল) is a secondary school in Lakshmi Bazaar in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It is one of the oldest schools in Dhaka.

Old Dhaka (Bengali: পুরান ঢাকা, romanized: Puran Dhaka) is a term used to refer to the historic old city of Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. It was founded in 1608 as Jahangirabad or Jahangirnagar (Bengali: জাহাঙ্গীরনগর, romanized: Jahangirnogor, lit. 'City of Jahangir'), the capital of Mughal Province of Bengal and named after the Mughal emperor Jahangir. It is located on the banks of the Buriganga River. It was one of the largest and most prosperous cities of South Asia and the center of the worldwide muslin trade. The then Nawab of Bengal Murshid Quli Khan shifted the capital from Dhaka to Murshidabad in the early-18th century. With the rise of Calcutta (now Kolkata) during the British rule, Dhaka began to decline and came to be known as the "City of Magnificent Ruins". The British however began to develop the modern city from the mid-19th century. Old Dhaka is famous for its variety of foods and amicable living of people of all religions in harmony. The main Muslim festivals celebrated with funfair here are Eid-ul-Fitr, Eid-ul-Adha and Ashura, Hindu festivals like Durga Puja, Kali Puja, and Saraswati Puja are also celebrated with enthusiasm. The festivals which are celebrated by all religious communities with much splendor include Shakrain (পৌষ সংক্রান্তি), Pohela Falgun, and Halkhata (হালখাতা). Religion-wise, the old Dhaka is predominantly Muslim, while a significant number of Hindus also reside here. Christians and Buddhists are also inhabitants here in small numbers. Its inhabitants are known as Dhakaiya and converse in the Dhakaiya Kutti and Dhakaiya Urdu languages.

Ahsan Manzil is the erstwhile official residential palace and seat of the Nawab of Dhaka. The building is situated at Kumartoli along the banks of the Buriganga River in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Construction was started in 1859 and was completed in 1872. It was constructed in the Indo-Saracenic Revival architecture. It has been designated as a national museum.
