St Illtyd's Catholic High School is a coeducational secondary school in Rumney, a district in the east side of the Welsh capital Cardiff. Its catchment area includes the eastern districts of Cardiff and is heavily oversubscribed. The school's namesake is Illtud, a 5th-century Welsh abbot and teacher.

Rumney High School was an English medium co-educational, community school in the Rumney area of Cardiff, Wales. The school served the communities of Rumney and Trowbridge on the eastern side of Cardiff and was opened in the 1950s alongside Llanrumney High School. Rumney High School was opened in the 1950s as Cae'r Castell School. In 1958 the school was used as one of the venues for the Sixth Commonwealth Games, hosting all seven fencing competitions. The event saw Wales take two bronze medals, in the team sabre and foil events, and several of the competitions were attended by Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh and Charles the future Prince of Wales.A proposal to close Rumney High School and Llanrumney High School was published by the Cardiff Council on 20 March 2009. A total of 1257 objections were registered during the objection period to 20 May 2009. The proposal was due to be implemented in 2012 but was overturned in mid-2011. Reasons cited include the fact that both of the schools were old and falling into a state of disrepair; the intention was to rebuild one new state of the art high school building on the existing Llanrumney site, with Rumney High School grounds being sold to fund the project. The proposed new school would form a partnership with Cardiff High School and Willows High School, with pupils entering further education at Coleg Glan Hafren, or elsewhere in the city where appropriate.However, these plans were abandoned. Instead Llanrumney High School closed in August 2013, with all students being transferred to Rumney High School. Rumney High School itself was closed in August 2014. The new Eastern High School opened on the site in September 2014, before moving to its new home at the Eastern Community Campus on Trowbridge Road in January 2018.

Trowbridge is a district, community and coterminous electoral ward on the eastern edge of the city of Cardiff, capital of Wales. The community and electoral ward includes some or all of the areas of the St Mellons estate and Trowbridge, as well as part of the Wentlooge Levels between the mainline railway and the coast. It is bounded by the village of Old St Mellons to the north; Marshfield (in Newport principal area) to the east; and Splott and Rumney to the west.

Coleg Glan Hafren, formerly Rumney College (and before that Rumney College of Technology), was a Further Education college based in Cardiff which merged with Barry College in September 2011 to form the new Cardiff and Vale College.

St Mellons Parish Church, also previously called St Melan's church, is a Church in Wales parish church in the Diocese of Monmouth in Old St Mellons, Cardiff, Wales. It was built around the 13th century and is a Grade I listed building.

Llanrumney (Welsh: Llanrhymni) is a suburb, community and electoral ward in east Cardiff, Wales. Llanrumney was in Monmouthshire until it was incorporated into Cardiff in 1938.

St John's College is an independent co-educational day school in the village of Old St Mellons in Cardiff, Wales. It is the choir school of Wales' national Catholic cathedral, Cardiff Metropolitan Cathedral.

Cardiff East (Welsh: Dwyrain Caerdydd) is a constituency of the House of Commons in the UK Parliament, to be contested at the 2024 United Kingdom general election, following the 2023 Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies. A parliamentary constituency of the same name previously existed from the 1918 general election until the 1950 general election.

Old St Mellons (Welsh: Pentre Llaneirwg) is a village, a community and a civil parish on the eastern edge of Cardiff, Wales. Lying to the east of the Rhymney River, it forms part of the historic county of Monmouthshire. It is separated from the modern St Mellons suburb by the main road to Newport – the Newport Road (B4487) – and which was formerly the A48 road. The population of the community in 2011 was 2,367 and one of the smallest in Cardiff.

Llanrumney Hall (Welsh: Neuadd Llanrhymnu) is Grade II* listed building in Llanrumney, Cardiff, Wales. The Elizabethan mansion was built in 1450, rebuilt in 1852 and refurbished around 1900. Throughout its history it has been a stately home and more recently a pub. In the 1980s, the building fell into disrepair. In recent years a local businessman conducted renovation and repair work, which was completed in 2019.

St Mellons (Welsh: Llaneirwg) is a district and suburb of eastern Cardiff, the capital city of Wales. Prior to 1996 St Mellons was the name given to the community largely north of Newport Road (B4487) which included the old St Mellons village. After 1996 the old community was divided and renamed as Old St Mellons and Pontprennau, with the newer, much larger area of modern housing and business parks to the south of Newport Road retaining the St Mellons name. Historically in Monmouthshire, St Mellons became part of South Glamorgan and Cardiff in 1974.

Seren Stiwdios (formerly Pinewood Studio Wales) is a Welsh film and television studio in Cardiff, Wales. Founded in 2015, the studio complex was operated by the Pinewood Group until March 2020 when the company terminated its agreement with the Welsh government to manage the facility. It is currently leased and managed by Great Point Media.
