The location of the grave of Bahadur Shah Zafar, the last Mughal emperor at Yangon, Myanmar, is in dispute. He was buried in the back of his enclosure, but by 1903, no one knew where. After some protests, the British were forced to construct a stone slab to mark the site of his grave. The location of his burial was once again found in 1991, when excavators found the skeleton of the last Mughal emperor there. A mausoleum was constructed and inaugurated in 1994.

The Kandawmin Garden Mausolea comprise a mausoleum complex in Yangon, Myanmar. The site contains four mausolea of Burmese national figures and is located near the southern gate of Shwedagon Pagoda. The successive Burmese military governments feared that the mausolea might become a meeting place for democracy activists and they fell into a state of neglect. The former military regime omitted them from the Yangon City Heritage List because they are symbols of national liberty and considered a threat to its status and power.The site contains mausolea of Supayalat, queen consort of the last king of Myanmar; the nationalist and writer Thakin Kodaw Hmaing; former UN Secretary-General U Thant; and Aung San Suu Kyi’s mother, Khin Kyi.

Alanpya Pagoda (Burmese: အလံပြစေတီ; also known as Signal Pagoda) is a 98.33-foot-tall (29.97 m) Burmese pagoda located on Alanpya Hill, on the southern part of Dhammarakhita Hill, in Yangon, Myanmar. The pagoda is south of Maha Wizaya Pagoda.

Jubilee Hall (Burmese: ဂျူဗလီဟော) was a colonial-era landmark in Rangoon, Burma of historical significance, and considered "one of the best appointed theatres in the Orient" during the early part of the 20th century.

Thamada Cinema (Burmese: သမ္မတရုပ်ရှင်ရုံ), formerly known as the President Cinema, is a historic mid-century modernist movie theater in Dagon Township, Yangon, Myanmar. Completed around 1964, the Thamada complex, which includes both the cinema and hotel, is one of the city’s most iconic examples of post-war modernist architecture. The cinema has a large, oval-shaped hall and historically showcased both local and international films. It has served as a major cultural and entertainment venue in the city for decades.

Basic Education High School No. 2 Dagon (Burmese: အခြေခံ ပညာ အထက်တန်း ကျောင်း အမှတ် (၂) ဒဂုံ; formerly, Myoma National High School, မြို့မကျောင်း) is a public high school located a few miles north of downtown Yangon, Myanmar. The former nationalist high school founded for the children of the common folk, now educates mostly the children of well-to-do Burmese families from Dagon and vicinity. It was one of the first "nationalist schools" opened after the First National Strike against the British rule in Burma.

The Maha Wizaya Pagoda (Burmese: မဟာဝိဇယစေတီ; Pali: Māhavijayacetiya) is a pagoda located on Shwedagon Pagoda Road in Dagon Township, Yangon, Myanmar. The pagoda, built in 1980, is located immediately south of the Shwedagon Pagoda on Dhammarakhita Hill. The enshrined relics were contributed by the King of Nepal, while the pagoda's hti (umbrella) was consecrated by Ne Win, the country's former leader. The construction of this particular pagoda is believed by some scholars to have been a form of merit-making on the part of Ne Win.The pagoda was built to commemorate the convening of the First Congregation of All Orders for the Purification, Perpetuation and Propagation of Sasana in 1980, which formed the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee, a governmental regulatory body of Buddhist monks.

U Wisara Monument is a statue of U Wisara in Yangon, Burma. It is located directly west of the northwest corner of Kandawmingala Lake on U Wisara Road, and is located several metres southwest of the Shwedagon Pagoda. The statue was erected on August 1, 1943.

The Yangon Zoo (Yangon Zoo) (Burmese: ရန်ကုန် တိရစ္ဆာန် ဥယျာဉ် [jàɰ̃ɡòʊɰ̃ təɹeɪʔsʰàɰ̃ ʔṵjɪ̀ɰ̃]) is the oldest and the second largest zoo in Myanmar. Located immediately north of downtown Yangon near Kandawgyi Lake, the 70-acre (28 ha) recreational park also includes a museum of natural history, an aquarium and an amusement park. With a collection of nearly 200 species and 1100 animals, the zoo draws nearly 2.2 million visitors annually. The zoo was operated by the Forest Department under the Ministry of Forestry until April 2011, and is now operated by a private firm.Yangon Zoo is open from 8 AM to 6 PM daily.

Lanmadaw Township (Burmese: လမ်းမတော် မြို့နယ်; MLCTS=lam: ma. taw mrui. nai; pronounced [láɰ̃mədɔ̀ mjo̰nɛ̀]) is located in the western part of downtown Yangon, and shares borders with Ahlone Township in the west, Latha Township in the east, Seikkan Township and Yangon River in the south, and Dagon Township in the north. It consists of twelve wards and is home to five primary schools, two middle schools and two high schools. Lanmadaw and Latha townships make up the Yangon Chinatown. Lanmadaw Township is home to Yangon Institute of Nursing, one of the campuses of University of Medicine 1, Yangon, and Thayettaw, a monastic complex that houses over 60 urban Buddhist monasteries (kyaung).

Dagon Township (Burmese: ဒဂုံ မြို့နယ် [dəɡòʊɰ̃ mjo̰nɛ̀]) is located immediately north of downtown Yangon. The township comprises five wards, and shares borders with Bahan Township in the north, Ahlon Township in the west, Mingala Taungnyunt Township in the east, and Lanmadaw Township, Latha Township and Pabedan Township in the south.Dagon is home to some of the most prominent places of the city, including the great Shwedagon Pagoda, the Maha Wizaya Pagoda, the National Museum, the National Theatre and the Yangon Region Hluttaw (Parliament). This prosperous neighborhood has many hotels, embassies and diplomatic residences. The township's Dagon 1 High School and Dagon 2 High School are considered among the top public high schools in the country. On 6 February 2011, the Taw Win Centre, a major shopping and residential complex, was opened in the township. Construction on the 25-story complex began in 2004, but was stopped during the country's banking crisis, before resuming in March 2008. The country's first 3D movie theater opened at the Taw Win Centre on 1 March 2012. In June 2011, the Sitagu Sayadaw opened the Yangon campus of the Sitagu International Buddhist Academy in Dagon Township.

It consists of ten wards and is home to three primary schools, one middle school and two high schools. Lanmadaw and Latha Townships make up the Yangon Chinatown.
